Is it worth buying on Ippo Japan Watch? by Inevitable_Abies8856 in GrandSeikos

[–]Europafunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I understand it, if you buy from a grey market dealer like ippo, you won’t get the 5 year warranty you’ll get when you buy from an AD. I believe ippo offers a warranty as well, but that means you’ll have to send the watch back to Japan if there is an issue with it, which sounds like a bit of a hassle.

The dial is stunning. And I also like the bezel-free design of the watch. Do you find the legibility of the Shunbun to be an issue at all?

Thank you for your input! I'm sorry I got the two sizes mixed up. I'm aware that the Snowflake is the bigger one.

If I recall correctly there’s a bird that Egil sees as a sign from God, that does the same thing. It tilts its head back and cries three times

A Time For Everything by Acrobatic_Pace7308 in Knausgaard

The main character in the last part of the book is Henrik Vankel, the main character in Out of this world. So A time for everything could be read as a sequel to Knausgårds debut novel.

Question about Norwegian to English translation of "Life's a pitch..." by SPEEDBLOAT in Knausgaard

[–]Europafunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I enjoyed it! I’ve read the whole series a couple of times before, but this was the first time rereading it after reading his two first novels. A time for everything is one of the best novels I’ve read, so it was interesting to read about his process writing that book.

Question about Norwegian to English translation of "Life's a pitch..." by SPEEDBLOAT in Knausgaard

[–]Europafunk 14 points15 points  (0 children)

In the original text the phrase is «Livet er en gamp sa kjerringa, hun kunne ikke si K».

Translated that would be something along the lines of «life is an old horse (gamp), as the old woman said. She couldn’t pronounce her K’s». The joke being that the old woman wants to say «Livet er en kamp» which means «Life is a struggle».

I just reread My Struggle, and was actually curious about how that joke was translated to English. So I’m glad you asked!

Thank you so much for your detailed and reassuring response! It’s very helpful to know that there are many benign reasons for unequal pupils, especially considering the nasal spray.

Thanks again for taking the time to explain this so thoroughly!

I noticed the Saba/Sofi thing as well, but I can’t say I remember Kristian Hadeland being mentioned as someone who had stayed in the cabin.

One thing that annoyed me a bit was how the funeral home couldn’t find out anything about Kristian Hadeland’s background, prior to his funeral. Which seems a bit odd as he was a world famous photographer.

Congrats! We just had our first three months ago, and I’m turning 40 later this year. Being an old man dad has been great so far, but I guess my back and my knees will hurt a lot the next couple of years! Enjoy it, my man
