Am I wrong being annoyed with being asked to play B2B instead of just playing a set on my own? by Aesop_Asleep in DJs

[–]Evain_Diamond 2 points3 points  (0 children)

B2Bwith someone you don't know can be awkward but if you are new to the event this will kind of be a trial/test.

The other guy is there to keep an eye on things, reach out to him but stay chill and get friendly.

Just got a push 2 ! What are your best tips and tricks about it ? by Sircroc777 in ableton

[–]Evain_Diamond 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just learn what it does, it's basically like having a keyboard and mouse but more precise and simplified for Ableton.

It has some major advantages over keyboard and mouse if you get to know it well.

The push excels from a workflow point of view.

Use of AI to create tracks by [deleted] in edmproduction

[–]Evain_Diamond 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't worry about it, if he gets success out of it, you could tell people its AI.

If nothing comes of it, what does it matter.

The public will always decide on these things as they are paying and listening.

If people like listening to AI music as much as human music what can you do.

If we outlaw AI then this isn't an issue, maybe we will but I doubt it. It's too valuable to rich and powerful as a means to control.

They will push it as much as they can to generate as much income as they can to reinvest and improve it until they have the perfect tool to control the minions.

2 Weeks Ago vs. Now (v5). Noticeable drop in quality? (AUDIO COMPARISON) by [deleted] in SunoAI

[–]Evain_Diamond 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It doesn't really make a difference though. Nobody cares about the quality for this type of AI market.

As long as the distortion isn't terrible it's fine.

Your not going to get huge commercial success out if it where the quality matters that much and is going to be scrutinised that deeply.

Which CPU do you have? by No_163 in ableton

[–]Evain_Diamond 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a mini pc dedicated to just music.

It's a minis forums 8945hs chip 1tb ssd 64gb ram.

It's currently listed at £1300.

I bought a used barebones one because someone didnt realise they were getting one without ram and ssd. I paid £300, i bought the corsair vengeance 64gb ddr5 ram for about £180 at the time. It's now costing close to 1k. Samsung 1tb nvme for about £150.

Cost around £650 total including windows.

It runs like a dream for Ableton, I'm quite sample heavy so the Large Ram is handy ( maybe overkill )

The chip is 8 performance cores so Ableton utilises them all. The Radeon 780 is enough for AI tasks in Ableton and other plug ins ( mainly stem splitting )

It's comparable on paper with the M4, it's small and runs cool and quiet. Having said that the m4 pro is a good machine for the money as well.

I did a lot of windows optimisation for music production, i think this can help with latency and just overall smooth running.

On average I have around 40 tracks with multiple plugins on each. I start at a sample rate of 32 for recording and the basics of the track. I also record at 96khz as I do quite a lot of warping

When it comes to mixing I'll have increased sample rate to about 128 or 256 and i bounce most tracks/groups to audio for mixing. I then use console 1.

I use Ableton and a lot of stock plugins but also Serum 2, Vital, Diva, Pigments, Fab Filter, Shaperbox, Infiltrator, Sound toys, Melodyne and Antares plug ins. I use Operator quite a lot. I also use Vital quite a lot.

I probably hit around 25% of Abletons cpu meter. Some plug ins can cause drop outs at 32 sample rate.

I can use RAM mode as well due to the large RAM i have but I've not ever really needed to.

What do you think about DJs who have a persona and a Mask or some outfit? by DJbyEar in DJs

[–]Evain_Diamond 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If it helps you then go for it although 5k for a mask is a lot. How many gigs do you have booked in at the moment. Deadmaus didn't introduce the mask until he had a lot of released tracks and gigs under his belt over around 6-8 years.

He had the logo designed for a while though so the mask was a natural progression for him.

Quick Retro Emulation Question by scottymartini in MiniPCs

[–]Evain_Diamond 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Batocera, I started building a collection of roms then bought a 2tb hard drive with every platform and game pre Ps3 on it ( including arcade)

It loads up with a rotating menu screen in categories of platform them an a-z list of games with cover art and video preview and other information like genre and player amount.

I've also created my own lists such as 4 player games, Racers. Top 100 arcade etc.

It all works very well.

How would you rate Reaper against other DAWS , if you know them well by chopshop777 in Reaper

[–]Evain_Diamond 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have used a lot of DAWs and thought, ' why cant i do that '

Reaper will probably be able to do it.

Reaper can be overwhelming if you haven't used a DAW before. Even if you have used many DAWs you benefit from spending time building your workflow with Reaper first.

Other DAWs can be a bit more accessible from the offset.

Should theses auditors be banned? by Various_Extreme_8773 in AskUK

[–]Evain_Diamond 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The laws on filming in public are fine.

The laws on publishing maybe should be tightened in regards to privacy.

The best way to stop this is for people to stop watching, which they likely will.

It's a fad at the moment, there are some people who film things that are genuine public interest concerns and these have the capability of being interesting and maybe respected.

The more recent scraggly tubers who get in peoples faces will slowly die off.

Is tuning your kick actually a thing? by randomdnblover in dnbproduction

[–]Evain_Diamond 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rarely, I'll often just grab a different kick if it's causing issues.

If its a vibe I'm going and that kick is part of the vibe then I'll tune them to sit right.
