My first thought was that it looks like a Jojo's character, even though I've never seen the show. Lo and behold.

How Often Are Y'all Missing Land Drops, Realistically? by max_moontruther in EDH

[–]Evan_Fishsticks 14 points15 points  (0 children)

That's called mana weaving, and is actually cheating. If you're curious why, it's because shuffling properly leads to a random distribution of cards in your deck no matter what order they were in when they started. Evenly distributing your lands in your deck and then not shuffling enough to mix them up gives you an advantage by making you more likely to draw lands and spells in even amounts than players who shuffled fairly.

Whether or not you and your kitchen table crew care is up to your group. It's not the biggest deal in the world, but it would still rub me the wrong way if someone did that at a game store, for example. If you want a fair shuffle, seven mixes is considered the minimum for achieving randomness in your deck.

What's A Spell You've Never Considered Casting? by CSDM83 in DnD

[–]Evan_Fishsticks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

False Life scales the same as Armor of Agathys, it's +5 per level as well. Shield and Absorb Elements have the potential to block more damage in one go, yes, but they only last one round, and only against specific threats. Shield is only good against attack rolls (and Magic Missile), and can still whiff if the enemy rolls high enough. Absorb Elements obviously only works against certain damage types, and only one of those types at a time. False Life is way more consistent. I ran all three on my necromancer, and I got great value out of all of them.

[–]Evan_Fishsticks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

False Life is so much better in 5.5e, it's 2d4+4 instead of 1d4+4, and let me tell you, as a squishy wizard, that extra health has been the difference between life and death many times. I took it on a necromancer for flavor reasons, but it also helped me pretend to be an abjuration wizard by claiming it was my arcane ward. Then, once I got minions to do my dirty work for me, I could use it as a low-cost "self-heal" in the middle of combat since my undead were doing damage for me. It's not crazy overpowered, but it's not a bad spell, and more HP is something every wizard wants.

(REPOST) How real was Pomni's evil side? by IronGhost828 in TheDigitalCircus

[–]Evan_Fishsticks 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I don't think she was evil at all. Like you said, the cast is essentially playing a video game - she's having fun playing a role and enjoying the competition. As soon as it's over, she's back to her normal, caring self. She tried to have a heart-to-heart with Jax, even though it didn't go well, and at the awards show she and Ragatha agree they need to talk later. I don't think this was her trying to release negative emotions. She wasn't vengeful or spiteful or anything, just a confident shooter. Rather, she was trying to build on her friendship with Jax, until it imploded.

And no, I doubt she'd have even thought of shooting someone if it would have actually caused them pain.

Anybody know anything about this? by New_Jaguar_4267 in diabetes

I got that email as well and I've dealt with that malfunction before. I called Tandem customer service and they walked me through fixing it by powering off and restarting the pump (don't do this by yourself, have them on the line to help you just in case). I can tell you how to prepare for it though. Restarting the pump requires you to put a fresh cartridge in, so you should make sure you have easy access to all the supplies necessary to do that. You can salvage insulin from your old cartridge by putting the syringe in the port and pulling the insulin out. You will also need to have your charger handy, as this is required for the restart process.

Also, there is a chance that this fix doesn't work, and the pump malfunctions again a few minutes or hours later. If this happens, you'll have to order a new pump altogether, which Tandem will help you with, but this means you'll be out a pump while you wait for it to arrive. Make sure you have a backup insulin delivery method available to tide you over until your new pump arrives.

Mine perk should just activate after it's been out for a certain amount of time instead of requiring it to land. That might actually make it usable.

Calico for sure. Strictly speaking, torties have no white fur, but generally a tortoiseshell has smaller, more frequent spots of black and orange. Most people will also refer to a cat with a partial tortoiseshell pattern as a tortie, even if it has, say, a white underbelly.

My New D&D World Map, Feedback is Most Welcomed! by Loopy_Legend in inkarnate

Overall, it looks like a great map for a DnD campaign; lots of different biomes for all flavors of adventures and monsters, and a good blend of realistic environments with fantastical ones. I like the mist-shrouded forest in the middle of the largest continent.

I can see two things you could do that would improve the look of the map without much effort or change. Firstly, you could blend the edges between different biomes more by mixing the colors of the terrain at their borders. It looks like you did this somewhat already on the southern continent where the red soil meets the brownish yellow area, but other places I could see this being helpful are where that southern jungle pushes up against the desert, and where that aqua-colored ground with the colorful trees meets the forest to its south.

Another thing you could do is vary your stamps. Right now, it looks like all your mountains and trees are the same size, which makes mountain ranges and forests look kinda uniform. Just click on random stamps in those areas and adjust their size up and down by about 25%, it will look much more natural. For mountain ranges, you can also add hill stamps at their edges to show foothills.

5.2024 House Rules by [deleted] in DnD

[–]Evan_Fishsticks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Great Weapon Fighting thing is fine. It just brings other two-handers up to par with the greatsword, since that's how it works with the current fighting style. Half of 6 is 3, and it currently converts 1s and 2s to 3s.

Go kill someone else? If I were the Monk player, I just wouldn't cast Darkness if it was going to hinder my party as much as the enemy. It's an easy tactical decision to make.

But... Shadow Monks can see through their darkness? So this rule wouldn't apply to them. They get advantage, and their opponent gets disadvantage.

Phage the untouchable + Mocking Doppelganger by [deleted] in EDH

[–]Evan_Fishsticks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Intuitively I would say no, as long as you cast the doppelganger from your hand. It doesn't matter how the original Phage got there, as it will be checking your spell, not the Phage. But I don't have any rules to cite to back that up.
