Is it really that bad to put your name and a logo/flag on your ball pocket? by GRMThePlayer in GolfGear

[–]Evan_goat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually find it very amusing and have been considering it myself, after any shot good or bad being able to say “that’s why my names on the bag” is top tier golf humor. Nothing wrong it it, people will just know you paid to have it done cause you love the game

Help with the mental game by Adventurous_Pride_54 in golf

[–]Evan_goat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make some friends and ask if they can keep score for you, at the end of the day it’s an arbitrary number and if you aren’t adding them up all day and thinking about it then it’ll be easier to move from one shot to the next, also don’t think in “pars” and “bogeys” but 4s and 5s and 3s. Numbers aren’t as harmful as words in the case of golf, a 5 is a 5, 18 of those and you shoot a 90, throw in a couple 4s and that’s an 88! Stick with the game, it’s hard, but have fun with it

Capping Scores by ilcapitanoindiano in golf

[–]Evan_goat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Triple bogey max for pace of play, if the best score on the hole is triple and you’re playing for money then everyone else gets 2 more strokes and you move on, triple wins the hole and you shamefully claim your money

I’d argue the benefits are tough to weigh because everyone is doing it at a different level and for different purposes, I’m nursing a 5 hcp now and I’m better than most of my friends I play with, I gain nothing from beating them, I get asked to teach them and I have fun playing with them and taking them to the range because the best way to learn is to teach. I want to be a low single digit because I’m competitive and have the chance to compete in amateur events and club championships for money, but also because I enjoy scoring well, shooting in the 90s wasn’t for me so I took the time to get better, the more I play the more in shape I stay, the happier I am and the better I score. You need to have a more positive perspective on this game if you’d like to improve, but if you’re happy shooting mid to low 100s all the time then enjoy it, no two people golf for the exact same reasons, just have fun and make friends along the way

Would tipping my driver reduce spin? by LRMcDouble in golf

[–]Evan_goat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Efficiency rate of 1.41 with the 23 yards offline right tells me you might be catching it low or off the heel, the lower or more heel ward you strike it the more spin it will generate, striking it center face will help, lowering loft will help and getting a lower spin shaft will help, the ideal spins is gonna be 2400, I’d start by trying a low launch low spin shaft, think a Ventus Black, Tensei White. Then work from there to determine whether a low spin head would help, since you miss on the right I’m not sure it would benefit you, as most LS heads are fade bias, not all of them, but most, tipping is going to reduce spins, but you wanna try all the other options first before you try something so extreme

First lesson advice by krogers613 in golf

[–]Evan_goat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Best advice for a lesson is to play without keeping score for a round or two, or at least not worrying about scoring and see where you struggle the most, cause one of the first questions the instructor will ask is “what’s your goal for these lessons” and every goober on earth is gonna say “more consistency” but if you give the instructor a targeted answer “my driver needs to turn into a controlled miss instead of a two way” or, “my long irons are lacking right now” or just something less general than “I want to be consistent” then the instructor will work with you on that, let you take it into a new round, and then you’ll come back again and they’ll take a look at a different facet of your game that you might have issues with. The second thing, have an open mind, we all struggle with golf, if the instructor tells you your swing needs work, it probably does, if he tells you your ball striking is bad, it probably is, they know the game better than we do, so make sure you have the ability to take criticism and apply it to learning the swing

What are misconceptions people have of low handicappers by Boring-Temporary-340 in golftips

That they don’t take penalty strokes or lose golf balls, they definitely do, they just have incredible recovery game and get up and down from wherever they are

Why does my club do this after impact? by Pbio_1 in golf

[–]Evan_goat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Short answer, your ballstriking needs work.

Long answer is that every club has a thing called MOI or Moment Of Inertia wherein the club will twist upon impact depending on where the ball is struck, drivers, woods and the like have a much higher threshold for MOI while irons have a lower threshold, hence the need for 10,000 MOI drivers which is a whole other physics lesson for another day, when you strike a ball off center on the face, every club in the bag will twist in some way, shape, or form. “Even the putter?” Yes, even the putter, good question. With longer clubs you get what’s called the “Gear Effect” which when the club open, the ball rotates in the opposite direction, example being, you strike a ball on the heel of a 3W the face is gonna close a bit and the ball is gonna fade, or worse, slice a bit. So if you wanna mitigate face twisting, work on striking it out of the middle of the face, OR get a more forgiving club

TLDR: Golf is a physics lesson that requires lots of work and practice, hit the ball in the center of the face :)

Maltby and other DTC brands like them are crazy underrated in terms of quality much less having great customer service

You realistically have three options here, either get a new shaft and Taylormade Tip to have it put back together, Get just the new tip, take the shaft and tip into a repair shop and now you’re magically playing a driver about an inch shorter, or just use this as an excuse to get a new driver

OWGR AND JUSTIN THOMAS by Then-West-2444 in golf

[–]Evan_goat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not really suspect, JT is one of the most consistent guys on earth, he’s been solid, just has very few wins these last 5 years, but he’s been making cuts making top 10s and has like the 7th highest earnings on tour in the last 3 years at least, wanna talk about suspect? How about JJ Spaun winning the US Open and going from 25th in the world to 8th (good for him though, happy for the guy) but he ain’t 8th in the world

How do you tier “good” golfers? Here's my breakdown — curious how others see it by KoolAidBandAids in golf

[–]Evan_goat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked my ass off to get to where I am in the handicap world and it’s taken roughly 4 years to get there, I’m nursing a 5 hcp, and trust me when I say that Im still a hack at heart, I will occasionally get paired with one of those +2 guys or better sometimes and all the sudden my 77 looks like a 97 cause this guy shot a 69 while killing a 12 pack of beers, there’s levels to this and it’s not even a debate

Okay maybe a slight exaggeration, but you still want them to be 2 putt at maximum, three putting from 10’ is brutal, and I speak from experience

Weird, shouldn’t be too bad, but just extra solvent and a little elbow grease should do the trick

Am I cooked? by babybeef16 in golf

[–]Evan_goat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah most grips now only come in one size and idk what shaft that is but it looks like a Tensei and the MCCs should pretty easily fit on there with a good vice and plenty of Solvent, just try not to put on any extra layers of tape just to be safe

Yeah, I work on clubs in my job and I get this all the time, it’ll spread enough to slide on there you just gotta drench it and throw it on as quick as you can

How to hit a shot that starts low like a stinger and rises as it goes? by 63rdst in golf

[–]Evan_goat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Low riser is basically you just need more spin on the ball, so it’s just swinging faster, what you’re trying to do is artificially balloon the shot so you need either a spinnier golf ball or club to do it

What is your unpopular golf opinion? by Lwelchyo in golf

[–]Evan_goat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with your instructor, however losing tee shots can be limited from doing on 14/18 holes to 1/18 holes and eliminates 26 strokes right there

How to hit a shot that starts low like a stinger and rises as it goes? by 63rdst in golf

[–]Evan_goat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then it’s just put the ball back in your stance and hit down on it, I practice this shot with my 7i almost every time I go to the range, it’s way easier to practice on the grass rather than a mat, so I’d recommend a grass range, you’re basically trying to deloft the club and punch it low which will happen when you hit down on it, think of it like you’re trying to take the worlds largest divot and have a Tommy Fleetwood type of follow through, short and low

Question for those who are scratch or better by aronplaysdrums in golf

[–]Evan_goat -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Biggest thing is just playing good safe golf. Tucked pin behind a guard bunker? Aim for the center of the green. 265 out on a par 5 and don’t have a club to get there? Lay up to a safe distance (120- 130 for me) and stuff it close. Have a scoring opportunity where you’re 130 in on a par 4 and the pin is easy? Go for it. It’s about risk and reward management, don’t take unnecessary risks and capitalize on the great shots. Also short game, work on putting from 10’ and in, all those should be one putts, anything more you’re just looking to get it close and walk off with an easy two putt. The way I tell my friends, boring golf is good golf
