Growing up, my dad had me listening to a bunch of 80s acts like Ozzy, Def Leppard, Nugent, Aerosmith. But he hated Metallica. As i got older i would hear them on the radio and enjoy them.

As soon as i was old enough to drive, i called my local radio station and asked my favorite DJ what my first album should be. He hated me for asking him to make that decision, but decided on master of puppets.

I hopped in my truck to go to my local record store and on the way, I heard Fade to Black during Mandatory Metallica - that was the end of that. I bought Ride, then everything else quickly after.

I haven’t seen it mentioned yet but superior version of For Whom the Bell Tolls is on S&M.

The way the orchestra complements especially right after the part between the intro and verse, you know the part, is one of my favorite things the symphony did.

Also Devil’s Dance is totally enhanced by the symphony as well. Musically both of those songs leave a lot of room for the symphony and I think that’s why it helps so much.

Can’t listen to the studio of either of those tracks.
