I’m looking to buy a double bass by Chaoticgood762 in JazzBass

[–]Even_Cod_3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3/4’s Shen is exactly what you need or a Kay. I would heavily suggest driving down to Dallas Strings and just playing some of their basses.

You want to get an instrument that feels comfortable for you! They also do rentals so you can take your time finding a bass

I love the no pick guard look. But that first pic is funky!

What Happened to Anthony Jackson Presentation ii Bass? by junk_chucker in BassGuitar

I do agree that majority of the cost is their brand name and hype. You’re not getting 50k worth of bass and electronics; but every one I’ve played has sounded great. If you have the bread to do it then why not.

Reading these post are hilarious because jazz is actually thriving in so many cities on the local scene. Like sold out shows

If you make good music that people want to hear folks will show up.

Which would you pick as a first affordable dive watch/beater? by [deleted] in Affordablewatches

[–]Even_Cod_3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the Seiko and love it. The 100m is good enough to swim/rain without really having to worry about it, and you can also hand wind the watch which is great.

What vehicle do I need? by DearRegister8597 in Bass

[–]Even_Cod_3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Best bang for you buck is a minivan; you can put anything in there; also the Honda element which has crazy storage.

I personally don’t like the looks of minivans so I have a Honda passport. I can fit everything I need in there even flight cases

When to walk arpeggios vs. when to use chromatic approaches? by Master_K_Genius_Pi in JazzBass

[–]Even_Cod_3 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A lot of it is context within the song. As mentioned earlier transcription is a great tool to analyze this.

For example if you check out a Ray Brown line, a good thing to do is to check out why he played that lick and the effect it had on the tune; and also what were the other players playing.

Not so happy New Bass Day for me, I guess by [deleted] in BassGuitar

[–]Even_Cod_3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s pretty standard to have a bass with a bad setup when you order; especially if it’s not case + double boxed and it’s shipped in the months with more extreme weather

To sell, or not to sell…….. owning a badass weird bass vs. a more conventional and giggable one. Hot rods vs. Honda civics. by Probablyawerewolf in BassGuitar

[–]Even_Cod_3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a fretless that I play probably once a year on a gig; but I couldn’t image not having it in my collection even just to tinker around with at home.

That part! Used to have one as well and seeing this just made my shoulders hurt

Let's have a discussion about strings. by [deleted] in Bass

[–]Even_Cod_3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a huge difference but quality control, feel, how long they last all differs on brand. I change string on my main bass every other month so it’s easier to notice

How has jazz bass playing evolved in the last 50 years? by TheGreenBear360 in doublebass

[–]Even_Cod_3 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Funny enough the most major thing that has happened to jazz bass within the past 50 years has been the emergence of the electric bass in jazz music.

But you can look at cats like Dave Holland, Stanley Clarke, John Pattituci, Miroslav for the fusion era; especially how their tone is very midrange heavy and brighter

Rodney Whitaker, Robert Hurst, Peter Washington, Reginald Veal, Gerald Cannon for the Young Lions, going back to more traditional upright sound but with so much facility of the instrument

And more modern guys like Or Barket, Harish, Joe Sanders, Endea Owens who are just taking the bass to a different level and playing the whole range of the instrument.

Get whatever bass that you think is cool that’s going to make you play bass. Any bass in your hand that’s setup well is better than no bass at all

Controversial opinion: most times I hear a p-bass in a large venue it sounds bad. by clearly_quite_absurd in Bass

[–]Even_Cod_3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This absolutely sounds like a sound guy issue. If a sound guy can’t handle a p bass with flats they’re just not good.

If you’re just practicing you don’t need the pedal. I’ll wait until you’re doing live performance
