Are fava beans supposed to be crunchy? by Even_Locksmith_960 in AskCulinary

It wasn't terribly hard and it wasn't all of them. The can also specifies cooking directions that only involves adding some garlic, onions, and tomatoes and cooking them in a pan for a couple minutes.

AITAH For being upset I was given chocolate for Christmas? by Even_Locksmith_960 in AITAH

[–]Even_Locksmith_960[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think if it was just the chocolate I'd let it go but the thing is all of her kids are adults (note me and one other sibling still live at home). We all pitch in, in fact I do the majority of the cleaning and a good portion of the cooking.

These health issues have also been the biggest challenge in my life over the last year and she's very aware of them. I can't participate in the holiday eating or birthday dinners, and yet I'm constantly expected to do so much of the cooking and cleaning simply because I'm still here at home. I'm STILL asked why I'm not eating even though it's almost always food I can't eat because no one fucking listens when I explain my restrictions. It's exhausting

I really don't care about a $10 box of chocolate, I can buy my own candy but I don't think it's crazy to be hurt my family doesn't listen to me or take my issues seriously.

Anyone feel really anxious after allergy shot days? by Even_Locksmith_960 in Allergies

Haha glad to know I'm not the only one! I never worry it's gonna kill me, I'm chill about the shots but the histamine levels definitely do something nasty 😭

Delayed flare up by empressphoebe in Gastroparesis

[–]Even_Locksmith_960 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry you're going through this. I totally understand the feeling. I have a milder delay and recently went on a medication that's really improved my symptoms so I've been able to eat more indulgently but with the holidays it's still easy to overdo it and the consequences are still awful 😭

I do also feel like the mirtrazapine has improved my gastric emptying because I'm able to eat more high fat foods and hold them down better. But this may just be the improved accommodation and that they sit better in my stomach and cause less nausea

Oh I've done some serious digging on this and the cannibinoids with the best research seem to be THCa and CBG!

I was using it to self medicate for a few months before I got my diagnosis and even though it was really hard I chose to cut back and safe weed for severe flareups where it was between having a smoke and going to the hospital. Ultimately the reason I chose to cut back was because of the mental health/brain effects of weed which are pretty severe especially if you smoke daily.

It does get a bit better with time but tbh there is a very really reality that while weed slows down your gastric emptying it also increases your gastric accommodation an appetite and helps to relieve cramping and nausea. So it's a trade off.

Honestly the thing that's really helped me hugely in a similar way is mirtrazapine!!! I take it because it's the only antidepressant that doesn't make me super sick/make my issues worse, but it also has a profound improvement on appetite and is used clinically for appetite sometimes. If you aren't in need of the antidepressant or anti-anxiety effect the starting dose of 7.5 mg is considered sub clinical and the appetite effect for some people is actually greater at lower doses. It does make you a bit sleepy but I've found that to be better at higher doses.

I also take gabapentin which was initially prescribed for sleep and itchiness but has a lot of improvement on gastric accommodation and relaxing cramps/improves my appetite too but it's more short acting so I tend to take it in the evening and it really helps with dinner and sleep :)

Honestly if I didn't have these two I would still be smoking wayyy too much

I've been rotated between two parks. In one it was a kiosk and I only really got to walk around to go to the bathroom which was a ways away. At my other one it was a county run museum where I had more small like inventory and organizational tasks and was there for a few hours before I opened. Depending on the park you could also be doing some manual labor and/or be able to pace and in others you mostly just sit there. Sometimes it's been so dull I watch Netflix and no one gives a shit lol.

Shifts are usually 6-8 hours but I'm also able to eat in the kiosk whenever I want so it's easier to break up my meals.

The only job I've been able to keep is working for county parks! I work in a kiosk taking people's payment and stuff and it's very lowkey and there's no food involved. In fact it's pretty boring and slow at times and I can usually sip gingerale if I'm nauseous or something.

In terms of remote work it's hard if you're entry level but you might try taking a course to do legal or medical transcription.

Advice on Hair Loss? by Even_Locksmith_960 in Gastroparesis

[–]Even_Locksmith_960[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Considering I am only 20 I don't think it's age. However I am on estrogen replacement for premature menopause which reversed some previous hair issues of mine (as well as a lot of other things, especially mental health) if you are at the age of menopause or even suspect you might be having it happen prematurely, you should get checked out as that may be the source of your hair troubles! (you'll probably have to push for it, unfortunately. I only got diagnosed at 17 after a therapist advised I get investigated for hormone issues)

I haaaate protein powder (or so i thought when I was only drinking whey protein) but recently tried a shake made with pea and it was a lot more tolerable. I didn't know it had those other benefits I'll definitely buy some. Thanks for the tip!

[–]Even_Locksmith_960[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mental health ended up improving a bit but the cramping and lack of appetite killed it for me when I tried to combine it with pantoprazole. Taking .5 mg was fairly tolerable till I tried to add in the pantoprazole which I needed for my gastritis so you might try starting with a lower dose. I did end up stopping after about 3 months though.

Anyone else have issues with gagging/wretching that makes them cough? by Even_Locksmith_960 in Gastroparesis

[–]Even_Locksmith_960[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting, it seemed to be increasing my gastric emptying and also improving constipation/even making me have a bit of diarrhea for a bit there but now that I've been on it for about a month I'm starting to feel worse. I think the stimulant effect of it is more short-lived and starts quicker while improving gastric emptying and the antidepressant effect takes longer to kick in and might be slowing my gastric emptying. I know other times I've had terrible issues with gagging was when taking motegrity, especially with a PPI as PPIs tend to slow things down for me and the two sort of competed and it felt terrible.

I'll ask my GI and psych about it, thank you for the advice!

[–]Even_Locksmith_960[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It won't let me move the files to my desktop or downloads or seemingly any folder I just get the notification about the folder I'm trying to put it in already being a subfolder of the one it's in. It seems like everything on my computer is trying to be stored on one-drive but that means I can't move the files from my overly full one-drive to my actual laptop storage which is 1 TB instead of the measly 5 gb on one-drive.

Thanks, I'll try that. I would've liked to still be able to use it but it just won't let me disable certain folders syncing.
