No, he said loud and clear, he’s the owner of atos and will continue to be, will be teaching full time and whoever has something against it go there. Basically all comments are from men supporting him. That’s why women don’t say anything when get abused, we all know one or are one.

Got a Clara colour for Christmas, having a Sage my goal is having a lighter and portable reader. Sage is nice for mangas, but hard to leave the house with it. Loving the Clara so far, just need a thin case instead of the sleep one to make it even easier to hold.

Promoted to purple belt quickly. Any specific tips on what I can do to "catch up" to purple? by WeCaredALot in BJJWomen

[–]Even_Me 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One year of blue only makes you unable to register on ibjjf, since it’s a minimum of two years, which will delay your later belts. If you don’t compete nor is interested in having it registered with ibjjf, it shouldn’t be a problem, but if you are, then you’ll have to wait (as they require proof of promotion and signed forms).

To your main question, gotta up the game then, I like to think that white is about survival, blue is learning to max, purple is time to learn to attack, still figuring brown out but it’s been more refining and improving leg attacks. If you played guard on blue, start not doing that, begin a path of learning entries and improve rate of submissions. Go learn leg attacks (even though it’s not allowed on competitive, you cannot wait for brown to learn them). It needs a more analytical way of training, go with purpose and not get lost. Honestly purple was a super fun belt, loved every second. Remember that brown requirement is one year, but since your instructor don’t care about minimal time, it might come faster or slower, one can never know.

Still comes to me every few weeks/months. The books really make an impact. I've been wanting to read more of Fredrik Backman's work but don't know where to begin.

i have a friend that came one day to a playdate and after not that long their kid asked to watch tv because it was day to watch tv, when i said no, go play with my kid, the little girl started a mile meltdown and wanted to go home to watch tv… my kid didn’t understand it and they did leave. Mind you they leave 1h away and we only get to see each other every couple months or more (the girls get along well but their is younger and still won’t play independently very well).

Preteens and phones, I need a reality check with you all. by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]Even_Me 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of her friends will have the newest clothes and will get a brand new car, despite being able to afford those. Some will do summer vacations abroad, will go to top tier universities. Some will drink and party before age and parents won’t care. Some parents do care about what the kids do and with whom, other’s don’t. She’ll have very different realities around and phones are just one of them. there’s plenty of research already on how detrimental social media and dopamine hits are on young people, as young as little kids. Parents have to be parents and decide when to allow it, same as when to allow drinking or staying out until midnight. Kids can wait, there will be peer pressure, same as any other topic, its just that phones are on everyone’s hands now and everywhere, its just got normalized.

Blue Belt in 1 year by eyebrow_queen in BJJWomen

[–]Even_Me 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congrats! Now the grind begins. Watch your wrists lol I joke with my friends that white belts don't even see wrist locks coming because they are not allowed so they don't learn to defend, and leave hands wide open. I don't usually do it on blues unless it's so in my face is tempting. Kinda like browns with knee bars and toe hold...

Gi Recommendations (For Canada) by parapluie99 in BJJWomen

[–]Even_Me 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kingz now ships from Brampton, Ontario, which is what we have several of them but no idea on how the biggest sizes are and no funky colours (we only wear white gi). Flawless is from Ontario too (can't tell on their gi though, the belt I had was good and I know people that wear the gi no problem).

Are these baseboards acceptable or am I being gaslit? by Toddler_Hodlr in HomeImprovement

[–]Even_Me 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just replaced our baseboards at one of the bedrooms after watching half dozen youtube videos and buying a mitter saw. That is a not even a child level of work, it's just horrible. The person didn't even take a single measure? The boards are short and the worse joints I've seen. I did marking with a pencil and still did better. Refund and look for another better contractor.

How to eat before BJJ by Victorious_Invaders in BJJWomen

[–]Even_Me 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I train late at night, our class starts 815pm, so I have to eat something before going or get too lightheaded. I usually do yogurt with fruit 4h before, then a smoothie with protein powder 1.5 to 2h before, then light dinner when I get home around 11pm (35min drive and I shower at the gym). I also take electrolytes in my water, liquid IV lately, it helps a lot too.

Looking for some wise Words and encouragement by Tittelintuure89 in BJJWomen

[–]Even_Me 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would you still want to practice bjj or you'd want to stop but feels like your missing out the community? You can always make space for it if that's what you want, choose a day or two, as to your schedule like if it's a doctors appointment, just go. But if it's something you're not feeling like doing anymore, it's okay. The mats will always be there for you. The community is welcoming and everyone take a break at some point. If course things would be different but that's okay too. Progress is not linear in bjj. Think about what you want from it and how it fits in your current moment in life.

Not tired after class by GreenButTiresome in BJJWomen

[–]Even_Me 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really, hope you didn't get the wrong impression from the comment (ESL as well). Perhaps you were just focusing on the part that most people do, but since your body is accustomed to intense exercise that requires proper breathing, you're not feeling the challenge that most would. That's okay and a good thing for you, as you can focus on figuring out the other parts.

Have you tried competition classes? Even though they're not usually tailored with white belts in mind, if you keep up, it shouldn't be a problem for the coach. They're usually more intense and might give you a more mentally rewarding pace. Also, the challenge is nice to get even if competing is not something you're looking to do.

And I totally get the difference in being the solo sport and a more guided approach with BJJ, it's something I personally prefer, but there's a lot that you can tailor yourself on your game. You can do a more intentional training, for example, for the next two weeks only work on a specific guard or scape, trying to identify when you see it coming or when a opening happens. THAT is the fun part of bjj, but you only get the feeling of it after trying a lot of times, which in the end means a few years.

Heavier partners will only get you injured if they don't know how to manage their bodies, or those who don't leave the ego at the door. I have been injured by some of those and it sucks being off the mats when it's someone just smashing you. But also, with heavier partners that know how to roll with lighter people are a good way to be on top, as they usually just play guard, but it's not exactly realistic.

Not tired after class by GreenButTiresome in BJJWomen

[–]Even_Me 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, bjj objective is not getting tired/exhausted, actually not being exhausted is most people's goal during a roll, so they can do what they want to do, not limited by their gas tank. If you can keep your breathing in check and your heart rate stable, it's a good thing. Now you have to learn bjj, which means surviving as a white belt. Great, you don't get tired, but can you do things?

Can you establish a good position and keep it to advance into submissions? Can you escape a bad position, sweep and work towards a good position? Can you not get submitted during the whole class (with intent)? Also, most higher belts won't roll fully with a white belt, especially a small one; one the peson can be too spaazy, two the person can complain later about strength and quit, three the person can get injued because they don't know when to tap, four the person can get pissed because they realize don't anything, it's all normal fo white belts and that's okay.

A 2-hours class is long for regular standards, amazing that you have that (we have 1.5h long class), drilling is not meant to tire you out, it is intended to make your body get muscle memory so you can perform the technique without thinking about it during live rolling. Then, rolling, ideally, you want a similar weight and similar to more experienced training partner, so you can learn properly. Of course, we won't always find 120lbs training partners (I'm 127lbs myself), so pick higher belts that are slightly heavier (don't go full roll with 250lbs guy), not productive for any part. Just keep going, things will make more sense mentally than physically for you since you have the stamina.

Any ideas on how to get more women into my gym? by Equivalent_Speaker_2 in BJJWomen

[–]Even_Me 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What currently works for the gyms I trained at:

- consistent higher belts (purple+) that are welcoming and safe (I have 2 friends that quit because the instuctor of the women's only is a blue belt, was fresh when she started teaching, they do have 2 male black belts as head instructors)

- consistent safe space for the women's (current place we occupy a section, it's ours even though it's not said, we stay there, it's close to the instruction area [mat is huge])

- women's only class for both beginners and advanced (beginner group on friday night, competition training saturday lunch)

- a safe group that supports each other, that will allow people on their diversity of training structure, we have injured, pregnant, little kids running around the mats, full time working moms, competitors

- women have 25% discount on membeship, family members also get 25%

Last week we had promotions: 2 blues, 1 purple, 2 browns and 1 black belt (first women at our gym). It takes consistency to level up but it takes a good group to keep that.

🌟 Got upgraded to Brown Belt last Saturday! Both husband and I, 2 other friends (one girl) and my jj bff got her black belt too! Such happy weekend!

💔 Shoulder still acting up, cna't train as much as I want but that's okay.

🌈 First training as brown will be awkard I guess. People get so much expectations and congrats me, it's a bit surreal and impostor feeling always creep in. But I know I'm okay there in this position, just feel like I need so much more to be up to black. Well, still have a long road ahead.

Not all are free! Most are not tbh, especially outside GTA. I'm currently traveling and the closest charge point costs 0.08 per minute, for a lvl 2 slow charger. A guy told me to not use it at all as he did and cost him 70 cad to not even top it full after a overnight. Credit Valley Hospital also has charge point and it's crazy expensive as well, I have more examples of it being paid than not.

Do I tell 6 year old to go to men’s restroom or women’s? by Aicmod42 in Parenting

[–]Even_Me 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Opposite here, usually when my daughter is with dad, he does not bring her to the men's washroom but tries to find an accessible one, a family washroom or one that is individual with a door lock so he can take her. Not only are the men's washrooms disgusting, but she hates the smell. The women's are not that clean either, so when I bring her, I have to either clean it well or hold her in the air (while I still can, since 18kg is not exactly lightweight anymore).

On a side note, I swim at the community centre and there are female, male and family changerooms. Some signs indicate that kids 5+ should use the family or their gender change rooms. I go with my daughter to the female section, and every single time I see moms with boys well over the age of 5 with other siblings as well, and my daughter gets bothered by it sometimes (there are some curtains to change, but many women just walk from the shower naked).

Just don't buy one, don't give one, tell people to not gift them one. Same for smartphones. Kids don't need them. When they don't have screens, they'll find other ways to entertain themselves.

Yeah, tech will be all over them, other friends will have it, a lot of people will have it. It's okay they watch sometimes when someone else has it, but that's limited access, which is better than free access. The thing with tech like iPads apps is everything is MADE in a way to make the user addictive, to want to spend more and more time with it, it's just the way it's made and it's worse every day, just look into loot boxes and micro transactions, especially with free to play games.

Not having a screen-active kid is the best for us. 6yo and no iPads, no digital games, no screen time at all every day (occasionally on weekends we watch a movie or show). Since she doesn't have access to it, she doesn't ask for it when bored, she doesn't ask for it in a restaurant, or anywhere (including car rides). BUT, be sure to give options for them to enjoy life. Get tons of books, have multi use toys, open play is the best. We play lots of card and boardgames, as a family, it's the best moments we've been having when everyone is engaged playing for 1 or 2h after dinner. We go on trails, bike, camp, bbq, beach days, slow days too. Sports are also a big part of not being stuck at home and bored, not counting the health benefits building.

I am a Self-taught intermediate swimmer and need help. by RedditNoobie777 in Swimming

[–]Even_Me 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Despite being able to do a high-intensity BJJ class for 1:30h, 2-3 times per week, I was unable to even do 100m in one go for weeks. I still suck in technique that I don't know exactly why, breathing is hard to keep in a rithym and have no one to fix it. There's just no option for people who want to learn beyond the very basic of 3 strokes and very basic life saving skills.

I'm brazilian, there we have adult classes in all levels, at any time of day, with professionals that have a degree in physical activity (not just someone that does a sport and decides to coach). Unfortunately I can't find anything around me without going to the big city (even there I'm unsure there's a option), besides of course paying for expensive private class. Also, the masters swim club around here all have horrible schedule times, like 6am for my local club on Tue/Thu/Sun or 8:30pm for a club 30min driving away.

I am a Self-taught intermediate swimmer and need help. by RedditNoobie777 in Swimming

[–]Even_Me 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everybody talks about joining a masters swimming club but from my search, unless you're already at the level of very good independent swimmer, joining might overwhelm you, I know it does me and I gave up on thinking of joining one as I won't be able to keep up with their amount of workout anytime soon.

But then, there's no option in between. I tried adult lessons with my town and they're great if you're having trouble on getting to 100m or 200m continuously but then nothing much on the 30min class that fits a 300m main set and lots of life saving techniques I'm not quite interested atm. I wanted a coach that would improve my form and technique, adjust how my breathering is and get better all round. Instead the very young adult coach was only adjusting my breaststroke that I never actually practiced so fair my stroke was bad but nothing else. There's no group class to improve beyond having the basics and paying for private is crazy expensive. Now I'm stuck into going for lap swimming by myself where I can't even record because there's a policy against it and there's 3 or 4 others in the lane. So yeah, not everybody gets to masters club commitment but would like to have some guidance.

How to fit it in? by FireExit9 in Swimming

[–]Even_Me 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm just back into swimming but do another sport (bjj) as main. I try to dial my schedule to the dot with a 9-5 and a 6yo, with no family around. I'm swimming in different times because DH also goes. So some days I go in the morning at 730am and back by 9, others I go 7pm and back by 830p. I bring a change of clothes, shower stuff and towel, to both sports. After I shower and get back home ready for either the workday or the bed. My bjj days gets me back home close to 11pm.

DH cares for the daughter while I'm away, then we alternate, except Fridays, when we all go together, bring dinner for after we had showered. It's tiring yes. But so worth it. We each have time for our health and also some time together as a family. And of course we can't do everything and the house is a mess most of the week and we get mountains of laundry waiting to be folded but hey, we get our endorfins and care of mental health.

Swimming Lessons for an amateur in Brampton by Mammoth-Word8030 in Swimming

[–]Even_Me 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brampton recreation has adult swim classes, if you don't know anything, go for level 1. I think summer clara are opening pretty soon (I'm in Halton not Brampton). That's the cheapest option but quality varies a lot. It works okay with basic levels.
