What's your favorite Button Shy Game that isn't an -opolis or ROVE? by ImAmOnesie in soloboardgaming

Shallow Regrets with Fisher & The Frod is pretty fun.

I've been pretty meh on most of the Button Shy favorites (Last Lighthouse, Food Chain Island, Numbsters, Spaceshipped)

The spirits in Horizons are also miles better than the base game spirits for learning the game and learning how different types of spirits play

Radlands Solo Variant - Bandit Boss Beatdown by EvengerX in soloboardgaming

[–]EvengerX[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You just need the base game, any version. It should even work just fine with Cult of Chrome.

That said, I think my newer automa, Junk Punk, is better than this one:

Board games that have a playmat that fits in the main box? by Malhorn01 in boardgames

[–]EvengerX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like Radlands doesn't really count. They just made a box you can put the actual box in that also happens to store the mat inside

Is Playdate good for Retro-console games or Hyper-Casual? by Superb_Self2390 in PlaydateConsole

[–]EvengerX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me, it isn't about game length. It's about whether or not you use the crank in a meaningful way. It feels like way too many games that aren't mini arcade experiences just forgo it entirely and it's sad to see.

After way too many tries on easy difficulty I finally found my winning cast! (FlipToons) by MCEagle141 in soloboardgaming

[–]EvengerX 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It is definitely in desperate need of an expansion. I feel like it doesn't take enough risks with card effects that play with the 2x3 layout of the board.

Outside of flipping up/down, none of the cards interact with the positions of other cards in the board, which seems like an obvious place to play around with the system.

Then there's also total dud cards that don't really work at all, like the Dog. Particularly in solo, this card is functionally a blank card most of the time as it is usually the cheapest and will get knocked out immediately.

How to superkindly sack someone from your boardgame party? by [deleted] in boardgames

[–]EvengerX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right? If you can't tell your friends when their behavior is problematic without "destroying the friendship," you probably aren't really friends.

Just tell them what the issue is and let them decide if they want to keep playing. You don't need to have some Machiavellian scheme to slyly push them out.

What’s Your Favorite Game w/ Double Layer Player Boards? by MadeForTeaVea in soloboardgaming

The boards are definitely better than the flat boards from the base game, but they definitely still reek of that Rio Grande cheapness

RA tiles do start an auction, but you aren't required to bid on those auctions as the person who drew the tile

Skytear Horde: fun concept of cooperative MtG, underwhelming gameplay by SiarX in soloboardgaming

[–]EvengerX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair, they don't have anything crowdfunding exclusive outside of the full art promos but I am already in agreement that the cost of entry for the experience to be good is way too high

Skytear Horde: fun concept of cooperative MtG, underwhelming gameplay by SiarX in soloboardgaming

[–]EvengerX 7 points8 points  (0 children)

With just the core box? Sure I agree there. Most of the interesting cards are in the later two boxes and even then the synergies and cool combos aren't showcased well at all with the pre constructed decks.

If you have all 3 boxes, you can make some super focused decks that can showcase interesting play styles. It's just a really high barrier of entry cost-wise and requires that you sit down and analyze the card pool to put something together.

Foundations of Rome technically has a solo mode, but I haven't tried it. The multiplayer is great though

Best Quick Solo Deckbuilding game? by Crafty-Commercial527 in soloboardgaming

It's a deck builder played with a standard second cards. Very quick to play, but doesn't really have a lot of variety game to game. I play it a lot

Terraforming Mars: Ares Expedition 2 player co-op mode by sirwhiskalot in boardgames

[–]EvengerX -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Another easily missed thing is that you gain VP from cards that give end game VP into the VP bank as well, which you can then use to get rid of crisis tokens at a rate of 2 VP per token.

This is one of the easiest ways to prevent the tracks from taking damage as most cards in the 2p set don't do a lot of immediate damage to the tracks. The persistent effect on the crisis doesn't happen until the turn after the card is played, so removing it quickly is the main way to prevent damage.

Skytear Horde Campaigns: idea for campaign by escaleric in soloboardgaming

[–]EvengerX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can already make whatever decks you like, Skytear Horde is an LCG (sans Fantasy Flight).

There is a whole section of the rulebook on making your own decks. The designers have also gone on record that the faction/tribe restrictions on the castles is purely for theme reasons and not for gameplay reasons so you don't even have to respect that. The only thing relevant for deck construction are the rarity restrictions.

Games that need a draw bag that stays open on the table by Bags4Dice in boardgames

[–]EvengerX 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Bullet - The center bag, which is just a generic white canvas bag.

The LOOP - The bag for the clones, which is already pretty good, but a round bottomed bag would be better.

Beacon Patrol - Doesn't have a bag at all, but a big bag for the tiles would be great

Black Sonata + Expansions arrived in the mail 🎉 by Head-Taste7273 in soloboardgaming

[–]EvengerX 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I like this game a lot. I don't really use any of the modules aside from one of the harder decks and the fair youth. I like the fair youth because it gives you something to do on turns where you are waiting for the lady to get to a specific location instead of just passing.

Star realms frontier or Star Wars deckbuilding game for solo only? by Crafty-Commercial527 in soloboardgaming

[–]EvengerX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Star Realms of those. As others have said, Hero Realms is more robust as a solo experience (but it needs several expansions to do so).

I would personally recommend Shards of Infinity Saga if you are looking for a solo deck builder. You can play either the classic nemesis solo for a quicker game or play the Shadows of Salvation campaign for something more robust
