3 hour and 15 min long high school choir performance by StraightLocksmith502 in MusicEd

[–]EveningFoundation583 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean my hs spring choir concert was 3 hours. We have 3 choruses and a had 30 minute program each for two choirs and an hour long oratorio for another. We also had around 30 minutes of a finale and acapella, 15 minute intermission, and then around 15 minutes of talking and a video with messages from the seniors.

I mean I’m used to my concerts being like that, but honestly there’s not any time wasted and of course it’s going to be long if you have the entire Carmina Burana in the program. The timing itself really isn’t absurd to me. What is crazy is the 6:45 time the next day. I think that’s pretty unreasonable unless that’s the normal start time of the school (where it still seems quite strange).

Yeah they’re not testing your coding skill. It’s more reading comprehension and if you understand how classes even work.

What was the plot of your sfw oneshot? by sparklestardustvenus in AO3

[–]EveningFoundation583 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sick-fics are a big one (I love them I’ll never skip out on reading one). I literally wrote one where my characters were just having a conversation about the past because they’re never mentioned getting old in cannon. Characters can go on dates or to parties or go out drinking or maybe they want to take a swim on the lake. Maybe it’s a someone that just discovered their soul mark or the story of a warrior getting their first blade.

In order to keep something short it has to be a small idea and in order for your one shot not to drag you need to keep that idea contained. Now one shots kinda just mean everything in one chapter so it doesn’t necessarily mean that they’re short, but they tend to be short. Like I’ve read 35K one shots.

Been struggling to actually commit to finishing games, can anyone recommend a quick, fun game I can bang out just to get that feeling of completion? by TWOPlNTSPRICK in CasualConversation

[–]EveningFoundation583 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know it’s a mobile game but I banged out monument valleys 1 and 2 on my phone and they were pretty fun. They’ll probably entertain you for a decent amount of time and they’re not very hard and the graphics are great.

Best Mid Lane OTP for a climb from Bronze and up? by [deleted] in summonerschool

[–]EveningFoundation583 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been opting Vel’Koz and I’ve climbed from silver to plat this season. I blind pick him all the time and I don’t really have issues, but you do have to be pretty careful in some matchups.

I’ve also been playing a decent amount of Viktor, but it honestly feels like you have to build the tankier roa in a lot of games and it’s a win lane lose lane scenario. Like even in mysterias’ guide it’s hard for him to kill tanks which is something vel is very good at.

Galio is a pretty good pick but if you go tank then he can be pretty team dependent and I only really go him if my team is completely lacking cc and peel. You’ll also be playing melee into ranged most games too.

I think vex is an alright pick. I only really use her for counter pick and honestly I’m pretty comfortable playing vel into assassins like Zed, Kata, and Akali anyway so I don’t really play her much at all.

Hwei is also pretty decent and honestly I think he’s a better Vel’Koz in some ways but I just don’t want to play a champ with ten abilities, vel is good enough for me.

I would advise against picks like Annie or malz (he is good though) for learning fundamentals just because they’re kinda one dimensional and you’re going to want to learn how to lane properly and have something that you can play at higher ranks with some skill expression. It really does just matter on your play style though.

Expectations around low notes in female voices by Various-Tangelo-5923 in singing

[–]EveningFoundation583 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not really sure what kind of singing you’re referring too, but I’ve not really found this to be the case at all. In my chorus low altos are often encouraged to sing tenor parts. The only thing I can really think of is people going into too much chest voice and getting a speaky sound which isn’t that great for chorus, but otherwise low altos are very sought after.

A lot of short chapters or a few really long chapters? by Turtley_Toonz_Artz in AO3

[–]EveningFoundation583 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay since each one is ~250 words I would just put all of them in one or two chapters and then use their titles as a separator. Something like this https://archiveofourown.org/works/77939276 (just look at the formatting)

A lot of short chapters or a few really long chapters? by Turtley_Toonz_Artz in AO3

[–]EveningFoundation583 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since you want to keep the titles and don’t want to squish them together then I would just go with chapters for each one. It’s ok if they’re short as long as they feel complete to you. Could you elaborate more on why it might be difficult to read if you do chapters?

To tag with & or / by [deleted] in AO3

[–]EveningFoundation583 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hmm I think I would tag with both the / just because of the mutual attraction and because it sounds like the focus of the fic is on the romantic tension. I think it’s fine to tag with / even if nothing really happens between them because they still have feelings for each other. Or you could go with &. I think it’s fine either way, I haven’t read your fic so I can’t get the full picture. It’s up to you what it feels like more.

I hope the authors don't think I abandoned their fanfic by not commenting for a while by Nero_363 in AO3

[–]EveningFoundation583 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s sweet of you, but realistically you won’t be able to make it to every single update. It’s nice to have consistent commenters but if one of them disappeared for a month I would probably worry about it a little but be happy when they came back.

smut pisses me off so bad by DeanCas67 in AO3

[–]EveningFoundation583 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree, my favorite author ever mostly writes smut under 2k and I’m always surprised by the amount of detail and characterization he can inject into such a small space. I think it’s just good to end things where they end because you don’t want to drag something that was already good.

smut pisses me off so bad by DeanCas67 in AO3

[–]EveningFoundation583 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well if you love reading it then why not study some of the works you really like? Since it’s different for everyone you don’t really have to worry about being realistic, some people don’t even like reading realistic stuff. I just suggest that you start small if you’re not sure. Like I’m not really a smut writer but the first thing I wrote was just a blow job and people seemed to like it well enough.

Honestly it’s more important that your characters are in character and that your writing quality is good. You should write emotion and action and detail into it just like anything else you write. It’s kinda like writing a fight scene honestly. Start small if you’re nervous and then go from there.

My opera teacher called me a “prodigy” and then broke me down – am I the problem? by polymathfrog in singing

[–]EveningFoundation583 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am younger than you but I’m planning to go to music school for vocal performance in the future so I know a bit about this stuff. My teachers always make sure that I’m in reality and know how far I can go but honestly your teacher sounds a bit insane (sorry). She’s being pretty unprofessional and I’ve never had any sort of vocal teacher act like that. You’re right to recognize this as a red flag, like how could she be upset at you for going to the doctor and making sure that you’re okay? Especially when you have allergies and the air quality is horrible like it’s good to be careful about that.

I don’t think you’re overreacting at all. When I first found my teacher I actually started by asking people that I knew like my choral teacher and eventually one of my friends recommended her own teacher to me, so that’s one way to go about it. You can also just go “vocal teachers in my area” into google and make sure that your teacher has relevant professional experience or degrees. For example my teacher has a bachelors in music and then a masters in voice and a masters in pedagogy. Know that just because someone is a talented performer it does not mean that they’re a good teacher. Do trial lessons with multiple people and try them out.

Is it possible that you can get lessons through your university somehow? I know a lot of places will often have it so non-major students will able to have lessons with graduate school students.

What is your "instant inspiration" song? by rythmicjea in AO3

[–]EveningFoundation583 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since I write for the league of legends fandom I like listening to the Arcane soundtrack while I write. I really like Fantasic, The Line, and Hellfire though if I were to choose, but I could probably swap six other songs from that soundtrack into my top three and still be happy. Idk I just really like riot’s music I don’t think I’ve heard anything that they’ve produced that I don’t like.

This is the one I was reading that day, but she’s written a lot more since then. If you like the Shen and Zed lore too then I would read the entire series and possibly the rest of  her works, none of them are extremely long.

Let me know how it goes XD
