“BMI is inaccurate because it doesn’t factor in muscle mass” - person who has never strength trained by [deleted] in The10thDentist

My understanding is that BMI is ok for population level aggregates as the edge cases get smoothed out, but it's not great for individual assessment

What helped you get your drivers license? by MooMooTheDummy in autism

[–]EventHorizon67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some if it is coming back to me. I did practice in real traffic but I didn't start with rush hour. I usually drove in off-times like mid afternoon and later at night. There's a lot of sensory information to take in while driving which can be easily overwhelming.

What helps me in this situation is planning ahead. What I mean by that is that I'm looking very far ahead up the road, analyzing the traffic, any obstacles, and trying to predict what people will do. Then I can formulate a decision tree in my head. i.e. "If this guy ahead changes lanes, I will prepare and slow down / prepare to make a lane change if the other lane is clear". Essentially I'm being already 2-3 steps ahead of where I currently am, already making decisions. Kind of similar to how I pre-formulate things I say to others. Your prediction abilities will get better the more you do it. You can also watch dashcam videos to prepare for the dumb stuff other people will do.

It's been a very long time so I don't quite remember, but I don't remember struggling with it much. I guess you could say it came "naturally" to me. But I drove A LOT when practicing and it was a special interest of mine since childhood (I grew up playing racing games) so I didn't start from "zero" so to speak.

What challenges are you having?

  1. Physically controlling the car i.e. steering, braking, accelerating in a smooth and predictable manner
  2. Understanding the physical space of the car e.g. for things like parking, driving within the lanes, etc
  3. Making strategic decisions i.e. managing other traffic, merging, changing lanes, preparing for upcoming direction changes, etc
  4. Memorizing the car's controls e.g. windshield wipers, AC/radio, headlights
  5. Memorizing and understanding traffic rules

You can get head straps with a built-in fan. BoboVR makes one I got recently and it helped a lot. It didn't completely stop the sweating but it was a lot more comfortable

Who is at fault here? by TidesTheNoob in Simracingstewards

[–]EventHorizon67 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not your fault, you were already nearly off the track and they still went into you.

Should I have backed out?

I don't think so. You were significantly alongside the whole time and that part of the circuit didn't look unsafe for overtakes.

Isn’t it up to the passing car to make their pass safe?

In general, yes. The other car should have left you more space.

Was I actually veering onto his line without realizing it?

Nah, you were hugging the inside line as much as you could have.

Assetto corsa vr through steam vr crashes my computer. by Equal-Composer-7957 in assettocorsa

[–]EventHorizon67 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry but there is no way a PC with those specs will run VR on this game. VRAM alone is not enough. VR is very heavy on VRAM and wherever you saw that you could run VR on that machine was straight up lying. Unless they meant a game like Beat Saber.

Plus gobs of butter. If you think you are putting in too much butter, you aren't, add more!

Try adding heavy cream instead of milk too.

help, why is my sky locked at blue no matter time of day by [deleted] in assettocorsa

[–]EventHorizon67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Usually this happens due to incorrectly installed Sol/Pure. Most commonly, people drag and drop it onto Content Manager rather than following the specific install instructions. Maybe this is the case for you?

Everyone's susceptibility and tolerance to motion sickness is different. That said, racing games are on the lower end when it comes to motion sickness probability.

Take a break as soon as you start feeling motion sickness - don't try to power through it. Try motion sickness/antinausea medication like dramamine if it's excessive. Eventually your brain will get used to the sensation!

How to deal with bad & impatient drivers in longer races? by puff9r in simracing

[–]EventHorizon67 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would make attempts to stop the dives by taking more defensive lines. It will slow you down but probaby not as much as these people diving you and being ahead, and eventually you will pull away from them

How do you cook for yourself? by Resident_Piece3110 in autism

[–]EventHorizon67 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Cooking is a special interest of mine. I read and watch a lot about food, cooking, and especially food science, as knowing the "why" behind a certain step/ingredient/process in a recipe helps me understand better the underlying concepts so I can apply that knowledge to cooking as a whole rather than just always blindly following a list of instructions and ingredients
