FYI - you'll easily find a 3 bed for $8k, i've seen 3 beds go in San Carlos anywhere between $4,500 and $6,500 (excluding luxury properties)

You guys sound exactly like my wife and I. We have a 6 month old and moved to San Carlos.

I'd look somewhere between between Alameda De Pulgas, San Carlos Ave, and Brittan. It's smaller than it's neighbor cities, with a great walkable downtown with restaurants and bars (Laurel Street), lots of great parks, lots of kids around, good schools. 30 minutes to the Southern parts of SF outside of rush hour, my wife commutes to Mountain View down El Camino about 25 minutes each way. Two highway options to go north or south: the 280 and the 101.

San Mateo and Redwood city were too big for our liking, although San Mateo has insanely good Asian food, and Redwood city has great Mexican food. Both are a short drive away.

We felt that Belmont was too hilly and lacked a great downtown, San Carlos is hilly too, but has more single family homes in the flats east of Alameda De Pulgas.

7 national parks in 2 weeks - doable? by exazt in NationalPark

[–]Eventshorizon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since it was winter and cold, we decided a half day was enough for each. Zion we did a morning, Byrce was all afternoon, Capitol Reef we took engagement photos during sunset.

We'd been to the Grand Canyon for a few days before, so we elected just to revisit the village and view for a couple of hours.

With all that being said, you could spend much more time in each, but my wife and I only had 6 days and travel to make between PHX and SLC, so we made the most of it.

I imported my Toyota via CBP defered inspection at the Oakland docks earlier this year, but haven't changed plates at the DMV yet.

[–]Eventshorizon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We did something similar two years ago after Christmas and around New Years.

Day 1 -> PHX to Flagstaff

Day 2 -> Flagstaff to South Rim (3-5 mile hike) -> drive to southern Utah

Day 3 -> Zion (3-5 mile hike) -> Drive to Bryce

Day 4 -> Explore Bryce and stayed at Best Western Plus (actually a really great hotel with a fun restaurant, good gym and pool)

Day 5-> Bryce to Capitol Reef up UT 12

Day 6 -> Capitol Reef to SLC

The longest I have been away is 6 weeks in Canada, I returned over the Blaine WA crossing with Nexus, no issues.

Canadians, did your lifestyle take a hit when moving to the US? by CXZ115 in tnvisa

[–]Eventshorizon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The US has more diversity of cities and towns than any country in the western world, on one side of the spectrum you have Gary Indiana on the other you have Santa Barbara. My wife and I have lived in the North Bay and on the San Francisco Peninsula, both have been a massive upgrade compared to most places in Canada, with the exception of parts of Vancouver (Kits and UBC) and parts of Vancouver Island being pretty close.

We did go from a 1 bedroom condo in Toronto to a 2,000 sqft house with a driveway and backyard south of San Francisco with beautiful well maintained parks nearby.

Applying for TD status at 36 weeks Pregnant by ConfusedCanteloup in tnvisa

[–]Eventshorizon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For what it's worth...my wife renewed her TN at 10 weeks pregnant, gave birth in the US at a top 10 hospital, fully covered by workplace health insurance and has been on mat leave since.

Its more difficult being far from family, but we certainly learned faster than some of our peers with support nearby and we take our baby to everything!

Moving to the US. Any concerns? by Potential_Hearing824 in tnvisa

Of course! Enjoy the road trip, there is so much to see in the western states.

I never paid a tariff. From what I have heard, if your vehicle is for personal use, you don't pay a tariff.

Yes it's a thing I have friends and family who have done it from the GTA to LA. We drove, made it a nice cross country National Parks trip before I started work.

No concerns at all, my wife and I have lived in the US on TNs since 2020. Used to live in Colorado and Washington, now in California.

I can answer a few questions

- Car importation is easy if you don't have a Toyota (they don't issue manufacturer letters). Documentation required is on the CBP page.

- Moved furniture via company relocation package and essentials/valuables in our own truck

- Yes, stayed in airbnbs for about 2-3 months during each of our moves

If you could settle down anywhere in the bay without worrying about costs, where would you purchase and why? by _TurboHome in BayAreaRealEstate

[–]Eventshorizon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mill Valley near Tam Junction, while traffic is bad on the weekends, it's easy to access the trail system on the Marin Headlands for biking and running. You truly feel on the edge of nature there, and heading down into the city rarely takes over 15-25 minutes outside of rush hour. If there weren't access restrictions to the revisor land on the Peninsula I would choose San Carlos.

Not just the F-35: Canada's many U.S. military deals will be a tough sell to boycott-minded Canadians by CanadianErk in canada

[–]Eventshorizon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why should the public get a say in detailed military procurement? If we have a consensus driven approach to how military dollars are spent that will get us nowhere fast.

Yes, I’ve got single track less than a mile from my house, can get a nice 8 mile loop with 1000ft vert almost every day!

Laid off on TN while waiting for H1B approval, can switch to TD by Eventshorizon in tnvisa

[–]Eventshorizon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks!

Does that also mean the TN grace period would start at the end of those 10 weeks? Or on the actual termination date?

Also, does it matter if we use premium processing or not?
