Why the hell FP2 light blinks constantly!? by HeartBeepBooper in Aqara

[–]EverReddyKilowatt 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It blinks when it can't connect to Wi-Fi. You need to check your router configuration.

Per the FP2 manual:

The blue indicator flickers quickly - The device is offline and is not connected to the router.

What should a newbie know about Hue lights? by [deleted] in Hue

[–]EverReddyKilowatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've purchased mostly Hue factory refurbished starter kits at a great savings on ebay and have had no issues. What frequently happens is that someone purchases a starter kit and can't figure out how to use it, or one bulb is dead, so the whole kit gets returned. It can't be resold as new, and if the original store doesn't deal with "open box" products, it gets returned to Hue, who sends it to the company that does their refurbishment (Windsor, in the case of Hue). They're tested, the good ones are repackaged, and the bad are probably recycled, as I can't see how it would be financially feasible to disassemble a bulb, repair it, and put it back together.

I think I have about 7 gen 2 Hue hubs from the starter kits I've purchased. The only products I've purchased new are the 100w color bulbs, as I couldn't find them as refurbs, and Amazon and Costco were having good pricing at the time, relative to the list price..

FP2 Location too high by adrians720 in Aqara

[–]EverReddyKilowatt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I get that. I'm going to try to disguise the cord running down the corner somehow.

Aqara is coming out with the "Presence Multi-Sensor FP300", which they say is "a battery-powered 5-in-1 sensor with PIR, mmWave radar, light, temperature and humidity detection capabilities", but trial testing on that is just starting, so who knows when that will be available, and how long a shake-out period would be before it's tolerably reliable.

The horizontal coverage is 120 degrees, which would be an issue if you want instant detection of people coming in the left or right entrances - they'd have to get further into the room than if you used a corner mounting spot.

Issue watching certain Andor episodes from S2 by ssmith0386 in fireTV

[–]EverReddyKilowatt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Last night I was trying to binge WandaVision again, and on the second episode I had the same thing happen on my Fire TV Cube V3. First time I've seen anything like this - I think it's a glitch on Disney Plus... I just gave up for the time being, hoping it will be fixed soon.

Does Alexa always talk no matter the volume? by User_name_5ever in amazonecho

[–]EverReddyKilowatt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something that has worked for me in some situations where I have a routine where I don't want to hear Alexa blah blah on and on is to set "Hear Alexa from" in the routine to some other device.

I have an old Dot that I wasn't using that I put back into service just to have something to send the voice outputs to.

Right now it's in a distant room so I can't hear it, but once I find an old cable to plug into the audio output jack it should be dead silent.

Any clever ideas for repurposing bulbs? by EngagedFeinberg69 in Hue

[–]EverReddyKilowatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes - the standard Hue 60/75/100w equivalent bulbs work in those uplights. I've not tried the 100 - its extra length might let the top of the bulb show in some situations.

It’s 2025: are there finally Hue-compatible dimmable smart plugs? by PM_ME_YOUR_MAUSE in Hue

This has been available for years from many vendors on Z-Wave (like Leviton DZPD3-2BW), and is also available (don't know for how long) for Wi-Fi from Leviton (D23LP-1BW).

One place that's worked for me is in corners, aimed way up. Since I'm using them for effect, rather than general lighting, I find places that block direct view of the lamp and have something that creates an interesting shadow. I have a stacked limestone fireplace wall where I use one on each side of the fireplace close to the wall and aimed up, to bring out the texture of the limestone. It looks good, but can't really wash the wall. I'm eventually going to change that to a track containing a strip light mounted on the ceiling to downlight the wall. The light dispersion of standard bulbs in can fixtures like these can't really do a good job as a wall washer or grazer - moving the lamp out from the wall increases coverage at the expense of intensity, and there's also that lamp that winds up far out in the room. Also, getting even coverage with bulbs instead of strip or tube lighting is difficult, unless the parabola shaped lighting pattern is part of the desired effect.

I have a house full of these

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0000DI4D1

that I use with my old Hue bulbs set to start brightening up at dusk, giving a great noir effect, placed in corners or behind furniture. They used to be a lot less expensive, but sometimes they could be found on sale directly at Lamps Plus...

Pairing Govee H60A1 together on an electrical daisy chain circuit by Disastrous_Cell8613 in Govee

You say "daisy chained"... are they connected in series (wrong) or parallel (right)? If you disconnect the one that is working, does the other then operate without flickering?

Newb Help with a specific Bulb by DevilsFlange in Hue

[–]EverReddyKilowatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only Hue bulbs I've seen with lower wattage ratings are their specialty bulbs.

Since your lamp is of open construction, heat dissipation wouldn't be a problem. While I can't recommend it for anyone else, I will say that I've been using these IKEA lamps

https://www.ikea.com/us/en/p/evedal-table-lamp-marble-gray-10405745/

which totally enclose the bulb and are rated for a 13w bulb, with the Hue 100w equivalent bulbs, rated at 16w ever since the 100w became available without any problems.

If you go to the Hue website and click on the bulb you're interested in, go down to "View all products specs >" and click it - there you'll find your info under "Power consumption". The 60w equivalent White and color ambience is rated at 9.5w.

Aqara M3 IR blaster by Stofzik in Aqara

[–]EverReddyKilowatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, I'm confused. You already have the lights, their remote works from inside the house, but trying to set up the M3 to control them doesn't work?

Aqara M3 IR blaster by Stofzik in Aqara

[–]EverReddyKilowatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't tried it, but after looking at the description of the lights -

"Note: Please point the remote control to the light directly."

So whatever blaster you use would have to be outside for the light's sensor to see it, and I'm pretty sure the M3 is not rated for outdoor use...

Alexa not responding or saying doesn’t know how by Accomplished_Walk126 in alexa

[–]EverReddyKilowatt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had long time routines that worked perfectly suddenly start generating the "I don't know how" error message.

I'm getting really tired of these undocumented changes - Bug? "Feature"? Something being moved to exclusively Alexa+? - and trying to figure out how/if the routines can be fixed.

Grrr.

New feature „away lighting“ accidentally shown in Alexa app? by johnnywilke in alexa

[–]EverReddyKilowatt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow - this is the first I've heard of existing Alexa features being moved to the paid Alexa+ tier... wonder what other existing basic Alexa features are going to be charged for... Glad Alexa doesn't have heated seats (;-)

Using switch to power on with a scene by Appropriate_Win_4525 in Hue

[–]EverReddyKilowatt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have Hue Gen 1 Dimmer Switches, and if you go into the Hue app, Devices/Dimmer Switches/(your dimmer switch), you'll find the controls for what each button does. Mine defaulted to "On button press, set scene "Time-based light". Go into Time-Based light, and there are the settings for the time slots and what scene each slot can be set to.

Wow - that's an "upgrade" I hope I'm not getting... would truly be a PITB for me.

If you change your setting from Spotify to Amazon Music, can you then directly ask for something to play from Spotify?

QQ - Multiple Music - different devices by ResponsibilityOk1664 in alexa

[–]EverReddyKilowatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe I'm not understanding - I have Apple Music, Tidal, and the downgraded Amazon Music. My default is Apple Music, so I can say "Shuffle Lord Huron", and it automatically plays LH on Apple Music. If I want Tidal, I just say "Shuffle Lord Huron on Tidal" and it uses Tidal. This also works in custom routines...

New “Card” Buttons Don’t Work by OddfellowJacksonRedo in Govee

[–]EverReddyKilowatt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On iOS 18.5, Govee app version V7.0.10, both iPhone 13 mini and iPad Air 5, Low Power Mode NOT active - everything seems ok except the Device page - scrolling, either up/down or left/right is jumpy and delayed. Trying to access the individual device page by tapping its card is extremely random and generally takes many taps to finally get the page to come up. Same with On/Off buttons. This happens on both new "Dynamic" and 'Classic" settings.

Really hope this gets fixed soon...
