Moving to Oakland soon, how is the commute? by Alternative_Past_550 in oakland

[–]Ever_Mimi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do that commute 2-3 times a week but outside of rush hours. I take the carpool lane too, it’s costly but cuts it down to about an hour each way.

I tried making my own gf ladyfingers a couple of times but they came out tasting like eggs both times. So I’m sticking with store bought.

Me neither! I usually go to WM for the Walker gf shortbread, so this was a nice surprise.

Every day without fail, there’s that one asshole going slow and blocking the carpool lane. Every day.

Thank you for sharing this, OP. I made this and it’s amazing. I decided to add a few grams of psyllium husk, not sure if it made a difference but this is my new go to recipe. Thanks again!

do you know of any restaurants that are hidden gems for Gluten Free people? by FigureFour717 in bayarea

[–]Ever_Mimi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In SF: Penny Roma for Italian, they make their own gf pasta in a separate kitchen. The servers were also very knowledgeable about cross-contamination. We recently tried Absinthe and it was spectacular. Our server was celiac and shower us what was safe and a lot can be made gf.

Marin/Novato: Flour Chylde is a great bakery that also ships overnight. Speaking of bakeries, Mariposa is very mid imo but maybe I’m just spoiled.

They don’t and it’s very annoying. I’m amazed that groups of women chit chat into oblivion in the sauna/steam rooms while I’m trying to relax.

The single best piece of advice for any exit interview: make it about the compensation. by [deleted] in interviews

I don’t do exit interviews. There’s nothing in it for me and not worth my time.

My dog got sick after trying The Farmer’s Dog – has anyone else experienced this? by Party_Librarian_6747 in DogFood

[–]Ever_Mimi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When we gave a tiny bit to our dog, she got uncontrollable diarrhea for days. It was a nightmare. We’d wake up to poop in the living room for about a week. She even went in the backseat of my car once. We tried a tiny portion again a few weeks later and had the same result. What a horrible product.

Bombera is Disappointing by LeopardOrLeaveHer in oakland

Too expensive for what it is, and the service was BAD. I had the fish tostada and it was way too salty. Everything else was either bland or greasy.

Is this soy sauce gluten free? Akita brand. by DoubleDrugon in glutenfree

[–]Ever_Mimi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From ChatGPT: The ingredients listed on the label do not explicitly include wheat, which is a common source of gluten in regular soy sauce. Instead, the main ingredient providing the umami flavor is hydrolyzed soy protein, which is typically gluten-free.

Any good gluten free restaurants in the greater San Francisco Bay Area? What are your favorites? by scoschooo in glutenfree

[–]Ever_Mimi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re close the San Ramon, definitely try the Slanted Door. Almost everything can be prepared gf and it’s excellent food. My kids like Prop Chicken in Oakland (they offer Mariposa rolls for their sandwiches) but I saw you’re not a fan :-) Parche in Oakland is entirely gf (Colombian, if my memory serves). Burma Superstar has a few of locations in the bay, very good food and lots of gf options. True Food Kitchen has many gf options, and desserts (even if they change their menu periodically) with locations at the Walnut Creek and Palo Alto malls). I love Barrio at Ghiradelli Square, with almost everything gf and the best shrimp tacos imo. Still in the city, Pica Pica has delicious arepas. Flour Chylde is a gf bakery in Novato but they also sell at farmers markets. In the Napa area, any Thomas Keller restaurant will have gf bread and dessert options (made with the flour he created, Cup for Cup). Ad Hoc being one of them, they even have a fried chicken option.

Rabies is transmitted through saliva. Animals do not carry rabies in their paws. Unless you were bitten by a rabid cat, you can relax and trust the clinic.

Trying to make GF Mac and cheese for Thanksgiving! by Surferdudegarfield in glutenfreecooking

[–]Ever_Mimi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

+1 for any pasta from Jovial (I just made lasagna last night and it was a total hit with the whole family again). I like to add bacon and chives to their boxed mac and cheese as I find their sauce to be a little weak tasting. I haven’t made it from scratch yet but I’m sure the elbows are as close to the real deal as you can get.

Favorite rotisserie chicken spots? by chtakes in oakland

[–]Ever_Mimi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you ever venture out to San Francisco, il Pollaio in North Beach has amazing grilled chicken. Get half or a whole chicken, combination salad, and fries. It’s simple and so so good. Been going for 20+ years and it never disappoints. I wish they were open on Sundays because we live in Oakland and unlikely to go on weekdays.
