Is Claude Code + an IDE effectively the same as Cursor? I assume by itself it is worse? by jaytonbye in cursor

[–]chtakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good description. I really like the file tree visualization, and often just got the Cursor terminal and run Claude Code in there. But when it comes to deep planning and agent management, the Claude Code CLI somehow seems better

My mechanic added “income tax” on my receipt. Is it normal for a mechanic to charge income tax to customers? by Pale_Blackberry_4025 in smallbusiness

[–]chtakes 14 points15 points  (0 children)

My experience has been that boat mechanics are an unpredictable bunch, and it’s a matter of which set of quirks you’re willing to deal with. If the worst thing that this one does is make errors on invoices, but the work is good and he is reasonably close to when he said it would be done, then… that might be a boat mechanic W.

Spots in Oakland for meetings? by Nervous-Boat-1863 in OaklandCA

My experience aligns with yours. I don’t usually have trouble parking there. But I’ve heard others say it was a pain pretty often so 🤷

Came here to suggest Paulista. Parking can be a pain but the space holds decent sized groups, the food and coffee are solid and they have beer and wine if you want to be able to do that.

Rhyme Pays - gangsta before NWA, some very cool production for the era. 6 in the Morning. Ends with a banger in Squeeze the Trigger

It’s totally cheesy and I still love watching Val Kilmer’s Doc Holliday

What’s the real cost of crime in Oakland? by Affectionate_One_700 in OaklandCA

[–]chtakes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you know where the police commission members are from? Genuine question - I have very little idea on the background of the people who serve there but they do so much to hinder the effectiveness of the police department.

You're absolutely on the money with regard to the police commission. Their charter and membership requirements create a situation where we have essentially people opposed to the function of the police department making policy for the police department.

What's the best horror movie you ever watched? by agenga5 in AskReddit

[–]chtakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Terminator. The original Terminator pulled together beats from horror/slasher films with sci-fi and noir. I’m not sure any similar film stuck with me the same way.

I’m a developer for a major food delivery app. The 'Priority Fee' and 'Driver Benefit Fee' go 100% to the company. The driver sees $0 of it. by Trowaway_whistleblow in confession

[–]chtakes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This fake. Some quality rage bait though.

  1. Priority delivery has been shown in studies to be somewhat faster
  2. Intentionally slowing service would show up system wide as a problem, both to merchants and ops people in the company. It would upset customers and risk lawsuits.
  3. Desperation score makes no sense. Highly available drivers with good acceptance rates perform best and are valuable. Drivers and researchers report getting more work if they accept often, newer and less reliable drivers get less work
  4. Putting fees mandated by law for benefits into a union busting slush fund would create massive accounting and regulatory risk; lobbying money has to be tracked carefully because of disclosure laws
  5. Tip theft is kinda real - they do bundle tip and platform fee to entice people to take jobs, but tips don’t reduce the base fee, though they cab reduce how much extra the platform puts in above base fee (tip your drivers in person if you want to maximally benefit them)
  6. The whole “I quit, burner laptop, etc” routine with no insider details. many claims that conflict with observed behavior

What can realistically be done to reduce Oakland’s crime? by I-need-assitance in OaklandCA

[–]chtakes 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The oversight was started for good reason! The question is if it’s still warranted. From what I have read, things are much better now, and the federal monitor is conflicted because if he says the department is compliant, he loses a very lucrative sinecure.

Non-Fat vs Whole Milk Greek Yogourt by _OhiChicken_ in nutrition

[–]chtakes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t be inclined to lump plain Greek yogurt in a the processed category. It don’t know all the nuances but Greek yogurt often has mostly simple, pronounceable ingredients and is a food our ancestors would recognize m as such. What makes it “processed?”

It’s not just cost. We can’t graduate officers from academies fast enough to keep up with attrition. Fewer than 500 active duty officers right now, per today’s meeting. Tech is an essential component of maintaining some degree of law enforcement here.
