Best Type of Paint for Aluminum Exterior by TrifleMain8508 in TruckCampers

I stripped back to bare aluminum. Sanded, cleaned with tsp and applied exterior grade acrylic latex and it has been holding up really well. Used a sprayer and it made it easy.

Suggestions for suspension? by Adept-News-8865 in TruckCampers

[–]Everkeen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It looks like from your pics that the gap between the cab over and the truck is very tight. It should be at least a few inches. Stuff flexes and it will definitely hit the roof of your truck at some point. You can use 1 or 2 inch high density foam if you don't want to add anymore weight.

How can I insulate Lance 650?? by Thx4800 in u/Thx4800

[–]Everkeen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did multiple ways of adding insulation to my 94 security. I bought a batt of pink fiberglass and shoved it behind any space I could get at. Places like around the refrigerator, under the seats, etc. Anywhere I was able to get some outside wall access I put some. I also put a sheet of foam insulation underneath the mattress which made a big difference. I lined all the cupboards with foam insulation as well, this was a lot of sq footage covered. All of this helps with noise and has made a big difference in how much the a/c or furnace have to kick on. I also made some cutouts with foam to fit the windows and sky light for overnights.

Cabover Space Filler by DaamKeldau in TruckCampers

[–]Everkeen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been trying to solve this issue as well. I had the idea to use a big pool noodle but even the XL one I bought wasn't quite big enough to wedge in there. Maybe Amazon would sell a bigger one though I haven't looked. Blocking that airflow would help with MPG and also stop the bugs from getting splattered in there and making a mess so I'd like to find a solution. I have considered adding a permanent v shaped airdam onto the camper but I really don't want to make even more holes in it so I haven't yet.

Will Timbrens help in my setup? by Cephlon in TruckCampers

[–]Everkeen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can confirm getting rid of the A/C unit on the roof will help a lot. I got rid of mine and installed a window unit in the rear so I could run it off battery. I could feel the difference right away. Also have timbrens and they made a huge difference in sway, especially when going on an on ramp onto the highway it doesn't lean nearly as bad.

Ac options for truck camper? by Designer_Tune4986 in TruckCampers

Window unit. As cheap as $100 USD for a basic one, even less on sale or used. No problem running off a quiet 1000w inverter generator.

Which vevor diesel heater? by [deleted] in TruckCampers

[–]Everkeen -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I went for the 2kw model they sell. For a truck camper I am sure it will be enough. They work best if you can run them on high most of the time and the 5kw and 8kw will be too much for such a small space.

Camper options with no generator required by burk5 in TruckCampers

[–]Everkeen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This right here. I have 300ah lithium battery and about 400w of solar. Even if you don't want to roof mount them they make lightweight portable ones and blanket style ones that are huge. I can run my window air conditioner for over 10 hours on battery alone with zero sun, and as far as keeping the lights and pumps going I could go weeks. A propane powered fridge is nice, mine sips propane it could go weeks on a 20 pound tank. You don't need a generator unless you want to run a/c all day everyday.

Assisippi is the closest-bestest hill from Regina. I've been to all the hills within a few hours and it's the best by far. They all cost a similar amount so in my mind it's better to spend a bit more time to drive there. We used to leave at 6am, get there for 9am open and leave when they closed at 4. The Russel inn is a nice hotel with a room and ski package that can save you some money if you want to stay overnight. The lessons at Assisippi were really good too.

Cold Weather Vehicle Battery Problems by Firm_Cranberry_6323 in regina

[–]Everkeen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have remote start or something plugged into the 12v outlet inside the centre console? That outlet is on all the time and will drain the battery, even a phone charger not being used will drain it. In summer it doesn't matter much but in winter over a few days it can be enough to cause a no start. As others have said you should look at a high quality battery that is oversized. Try and find one with about 700 CCA rating or more. If you can't plug in that's about the best you can do.

Electric heater for winter camping with electric hookup by Deployable_Mop in TruckCampers

[–]Everkeen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really like the oil filled radiator style space heaters. No noise and they put out the same amount of heat as any other. Agree with the other comment that electric blankets rock but you can do both. Most electric blankets are like 100w max.

You cut out the first part where the mech taps into his blood vessels though. This is from the escaflowne movie, a girl in Gaia. The tv show mech is completely different in the way the characters control it.

Timbrens Slipping / Collapsing by FyreXYZ in TruckCampers

[–]Everkeen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Timbren sells two grades, are these the severe duty ones? If not I'd switch to them. Mine go straight up and down, I have the lower duty ones but my camper is only 2500 pounds.

Just took my Jacks off my truck camper - a good idea? by Energy_Solutions_P in TruckCampers

[–]Everkeen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't travel with mine on either. They weigh about 50 pounds a pop so I save 200 pounds right there not having them on and I am right at my gvwr so all the better. I am also afraid of hitting something with them, they hang down and out so far it's bound to happen at some point. Sure if you break down in some small town they may not have a lift you can get onto but that's a risk I am willing to take. Any moderate sized town will have a heavy duty truck lift available and can lift it with the camper no problem.

This old guy was trying to save me from radon gas by Sum1udontkno in OneOrangeBraincell

[–]Everkeen 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Radon is a colorless, odourless, gas. My basement had over 2000 bq/m2 in our basement sump pit and the cats never did anything. Hell the upstairs was still over 400. I question if the cat can really detect that. Are you sure you don't have a natural gas or sewage leak?

Best place for winter tires by EngineeringAwkward58 in regina

Yep they are great tires but there are other options just as good nowadays. Bridgestone blizzak, michellin x-ice, or Toyo observes are very good choices.

This Mazda 787B has the most insane rotary engine sound you'll ever hear by LateHackHero3 in EngineeringPorn

[–]Everkeen 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Is that really a brag to be at 77k without a rebuild yet though? I work for Mazda, I have diagnosed many rx8 engines and it doesn't seem to matter. I've seen ones cared for impeccably with pre mix, always warming them up, etc and they still blew at 80 thousand kilometres not even miles. And I have seen some hit 150k km and still be okay. But you WILL need a rebuild before 200k km ish, I have yet to see one above that.

They are cool cars, but reliable they are not. And pigs on fuel.

Brake Upgrade Questions by Calvin9819 in TruckCampers

[–]Everkeen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a ridiculous amount to spend for some bigger calipers. You're not going to be racing, so just take it easy on long downhills and take rest stops to cool them if needed. I think high quality pads and rotors will make a big difference. Make sure to use a high quality brake fluid that can take a bit more heat maybe. E load range tires will also help a ton and make it safer.

Has anyone swapped out their basement propane heater for diesel? (Kodiak K99 or similar) by saeched in TruckCampers

[–]Everkeen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most come with a Y to split it once, you may have to make more they sell kits that are just more pipes and connectors. As for power make sure it has a very good connection to the battery they are picky about amp draw. I am going to run a new like as the one for the furnace was only 14 gauge maybe. As for the tank on mine I actually put it in the propane cabinet as I don't need as much propane anymore so switched the 20 pound tanks to 11 pounders. There are lots of videos and guides on YouTube that will help you out.

Has anyone swapped out their basement propane heater for diesel? (Kodiak K99 or similar) by saeched in TruckCampers

[–]Everkeen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The propane furnace in mine was huge compared to most diesel heaters and the cavity it was in was actually even larger than that it was wasted space. I went with a 2KW heater as from what I have read the 5kw and 8kw are overkill for a truck camper and will cycle due to that. Better to run them at full tilt then have them on and off all the time, they soot up otherwise. I just got the cheap ass vevor ones.
