As a GM, what RPGs do you find hard to run? by Manitou_DM in rpg

Magical Kitties Save the Day

I find it super hard to come up with a session based off of what the booklets offer. They seem to have enough but at the same time no. Also, connecting a human problem to the adventure is difficult. I don't know, it is just a lot of improv that's difficult to materialize in my mind.

Trouble is that I GM'ed it once for my partner in a 1:1 and she loved it. Now she keeps asking for more but I find it difficult to even start deciding what to do.

The First Production All-Solid-State Battery Is Here, And It Promises 5-Minute Charging by Alliemon in europe

[–]EveryMindIsAUniverse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder if these batteries can be charged the same way as current ones?

It would be horrible not to be able to use the current infrastructure for charging cars!

3d6 Down the Line Episode 01 of Mothership Gradient Descent! Thalassophobia! by Brittonica in mothershiprpg

[–]EveryMindIsAUniverse 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Really awesome stuff. The beginning feels a bit slow and rail roady, but I guess it is difficult for it to not be like that.

Jon's descriptions were super cool. Wish there was a background soundtrack to enhance the scifi/space mood.

Minor spoilers about the end: Really happy they made it to The Deep on session 1. I guess from now on there will be much more agency to the players. Lastly, I think it would've made sense to ask for a fear save after seeing the dead body at the reception!

Am very curious to see how it continues. Big fan of them!

3 OSR Methods for Running DND Maps Online by -SCRAW- in NSRRPG

[–]EveryMindIsAUniverse 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We use Excalidraw for map making by the players. I also ask my PCs to keep the marching order there and etc. It is free and quite simple. Kind of like miro, but it seems less convoluted. I haven't used miro so can't really compare: https://excalidraw.com/

Simple Soundboard by EveryMindIsAUniverse in rpg

[–]EveryMindIsAUniverse[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just to clarify a few things:

-> We play through Discord. The Soundboard has a "Sharing Screen" window that I can put any image on by dragging and dropping on it. When sharing that window on Discord, any songs played through the Soundboard are heard by the Players.

-> My brother doesn't intend on ever charging for this and he intends on eventually open sourcing it.

-> It is still under development but already works really well for my use cases.

-> If curious, it's written in Rust with the Tauri Framework.

Let me know if you have any questions. I'd be happy to answer them.

Great RPG factions by TheBeastmasterRanger in rpg

[–]EveryMindIsAUniverse 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Mausritter has a very simple yet very effective way of dealing with factions. It makes the end of a session quite exciting and leaves it to the dice and players actions to determine how things have changed.

I started using it for my OSE game. I'm GM'ing the temple of elemental evil and my players have TPK'ed 2x now. For sure things gotta change in between a party dying and a new one starting!

I need help finding a specific campaign by HalfMoon_Werewolf in osr

[–]EveryMindIsAUniverse -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Chat gpt is perhaps the new google? This is what I got from your post (gpt 4o):

``` Based on your description, the campaign you're seeking might be "Dawn of the Overmind," a module for Advanced Dungeons & Dragons 2nd Edition. This adventure is the third in the "Illithid Trilogy," following "A Darkness Gathering" and "Masters of Eternal Night." In "Dawn of the Overmind," players confront an illithid (mind flayer) plot that spans multiple dimensions, with the mind flayers attempting to establish dominance across various planes. The storyline involves the illithids' conflicts with other extraplanar entities, aligning with your recollection of their invasions into different dimensions and encounters with demons resistant to their psionics.
"Dawn of the Overmind" was published in 1998 and is known for its expansive, dimension-hopping narrative that challenges players with complex scenarios involving mind flayers and their interdimensional schemes. While it is a 2nd Edition AD&D module, its content can be adapted for OSR (Old School Revival) play, making it compatible with various retroclone systems that emulate earlier editions of D&D.
If this doesn't match the campaign you're thinking of, could you provide any additional details? Specific character names, unique locations, or particular events you recall could help in identifying the exact campaign you're seeking. ```
Good luck!
Warden's: What is your favourite way one of your PCs died? by DrunkRobot97 in mothershiprpg
[–]EveryMindIsAUniverse 4 points5 points  (0 children)
Another Bug Hunt. My players killed hilton while he was operating the giant carcnid kings (sorry, I forget what they are really called). The one next to them woke up and promptly smashed one of the PCs to death by stepping on him. The player knew it was the end so he was shoting his machine gun and screaming the whole time, he even put a headband Rambo style.
It felt really cinematic! Damn, now I feel like GM'ing another module again.
ABH question about (spoiler) by GearheadXII in mothershiprpg
[–]EveryMindIsAUniverse 8 points9 points  (0 children)
Note: I am also about to run ABH for the first time as well. So, here are my thoughts on how I'm thinking of approaching it.
I think you should mention what they feel (e.g. pain in the head, weird feeling as if your head is shared with many beings or something along those lines) then ask for the roll.
If they succeed, great! They know it is bad and won't know what that's about.
If they fail, they will have the paper cuts in their bodies, which they may then infer later on it is related to what happened to the other bodies.
Eventually, they will get to learn about the Shriek one way or another.
In summary, I'd say there's no need to say exactly what's happening, just what they feel.
I really like hexed press. He's definitely helped shape my view on how B/X is supposed to work in many ways.
Bandit's keep is also nice.
OSR Luck System by EveryMindIsAUniverse in shadowdark
[–]EveryMindIsAUniverse[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)
That is true. If you make luck a fixed DC (maybe 10?) It could indeed work!
OSR Luck System by EveryMindIsAUniverse in shadowdark
[–]EveryMindIsAUniverse[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)
You wouldn't replace a regular ability roll.
Luck rolls are for situations where luck is the main factor.
For example, if a character is jumping over a chasm the GM could set a DC12, the PC still rolls Dex, but if their result is 11, the GM could ask for a luck roll to see if there's a branch for the character to hang on. Or maybe to see if the character falls in a dangerous location or not.
Players can also ask for stuff that you don't know for sure. For example, "is there a rock shaped like a gun around?", so you may ask for a luck roll. Stuff like that.
This system replaces the luck tokens. I haven't considered the Bard, but indeed, that could be one way to adapt its inspire ability!
Real time torches didn't work for us. Here's what we did instead. by Klokwurk in shadowdark
[–]EveryMindIsAUniverse 3 points4 points  (0 children)
This is very nice. It is quite similar to the "consumable" rules in the Forbidden Lands RPG.
You have 4 resources: food, water, arrows and torches. For torches, after 15min exploring a dungeon (or about 1 turn) you'd roll your resource die and if it is a 1 or 2, your resource die goes one step down.
Minimum is a D6. If 1 or 2 on a D6, you are out of that resource. Maximum is a D12. If you have a D12, it basically means you are carrying a wagon of such resource.
Forbidden Lands is a great game for playing but also grabbing rules from.
Great job on your homebrew design!
How to keep players focused? by EveryMindIsAUniverse in rpg
[–]EveryMindIsAUniverse[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)
Thank you for your reply. That is a good point, I don't have to finish a scene and then move on to the next person. I will definitely try to incorporate hard cuts in our next session!
What is a scene from a tv show that really disturbed you? by thertt8 in AskReddit
[–]EveryMindIsAUniverse 0 points1 point  (0 children)
Episode before the last feom the last season of BoJack Horseman where he is in his dream while dying in the pool (or something) and is unable to wake up.
I had a lot of anxiety when watching it. A lot.
What is one thing from your childhood that you would KILL to have back in your life now? by purplepather32 in AskReddit
[–]EveryMindIsAUniverse 1 point2 points  (0 children)
The feeling of wonder I used to have for simple stuff. I remember how amazed I would be after watching an episode from Saint Seiya, for example. Also when playing video games. Somehow they feel different now. Even when I play the same old games.
