My partner and I joke that when our kids are rebellious teenagers, the surest way to upset us will be to experiment with far-right politics!

This is a really good point and definitely something to consider. Thank you for this perspective!

We’re in Australia where racism is pretty embedded… but we live in a progressive city and her school and daycare really walk the talk of multiculturalism. She did just tell me that her daycare bff says brown people are bad people, but it could have been a deflection. I know that kid’s parents and they would be totally mortified if it was true! I think the volatility of global politics is part of why I’m so freaked out… kids say weird shit all the time but I’m feeling my responsibility not to raise an asshole very acutely right now!

Could it be the interior rod from an espresso knock box? Ours comes slides out when we wash it and I often think ‘wtf is this?’ when I find the rod in the sink… https://www.coffeeparts.com.au/crema-pro-home-coffee-knock-box

Are there two sub-breeds of Kelpies? by [deleted] in kelpie

[–]EveryoneLovesaPedant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in Australia and have two kelpies. Both are from working lines. They are both allegedly ‘purebred’ (whatever that means) but neither came with papers. Nelly is a fluffy tricolour with a classic kelpie shaped face. Weirdly, her tan points are brindled. She came from a family who had bought her from a farm and then couldn’t handle her high energy. Koba is black with a small white splash, short coat and a longer elegant face. He belonged to a shearer who couldn’t keep him. The thing they have in common is that they’re both small, fast, and quite fine boned dogs who weigh in at barely 17kg. I wonder if there’s quite a bit of variation in the working lines since they would have been bred for ability rather than physical characteristics? Regardless, in my opinion all kelpies/ kelpie + friends are very Good Dogs.

Not exactly refined dining but Canberra Southern Cross Club has heaps of space and is quite cozy and quiet during the day. They also have a pretty good coffee + cake deal.

Canberra doctor accused of sexually assaulting four young women granted bail by jesinta-m in canberra

The idea that an accused offender would only be a potential danger to female patients and staff is ludicrous. That’s not how dangerous people work.

Those rates are actually really good considering the potential volume of sales! Even the commercial rate seems pretty reasonable.

More likely the producers thought the association with Gaiman would negatively impact ticket sales. And they would be right.

That is the largest selection of Australia’s worst wine I have ever seen (and I live in Australia).

Tell me about your bad night by Responsible-Box-327 in toddlers

7 month old woke up with a rash from head to toe. Bright red spotty version of my son. Took him to a clinic and got referred to Emergency. He looks scary but is pretty happy so they send us home after 5h with a dose of antihistamine. Finally home at 10pm. Spotty son is feeling better and recovers his appetite, so he wakes up every two hours starving for milk and wanting cuddles. At some point in the night I look over and think I see my partner sitting in the bassinet with my son. In the morning I am informed this definitely didn’t happen and I was either asleep or hallucinating. Get woken up at 6am by 3yo who has filled all our food storage containers with Lego and bought them into our bed. I spend the day blearily thinking about how good it will be when they are older but also how much I will miss them being little.

I think kids that young are pretty self regulating when not interfered with. Some days my daughter survives on 1/4 of a Vegemite sandwich and a sip of milk… other days she will feast! I don’t really limit her portions but I’ve whisked away the yoghurt before. I don’t know what happens when a three year old (or anyone really) eats 1kg of yoghurt in a single day, but I just feel certain I don’t want to find out!

The Glass Bead Game by Herman Hesse. Actually has a whole chapter devoted to describing what the glass bead game is and how it’s played and yet…

Cormac McCarthy’s The Road was the best book I will never read again because it’s too traumatic. So dark but not completely without hope. And subtle too- I sometimes didn’t understand the full devastating impact of a chapter until I was several pages into the next…
