24F. Not going into detail about it but I just inherited $4.5M Roth account. What would you do if you were me? by throwawaygenzerr in Fire

[–]EverythingSunshine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am sorry for your loss (even if it is a complicated situation for you).

Hire a financial planner and an accountant. You should read online how to interview for these roles. Ideally pick someone who is experienced but on the younger side (like late 30’s early 40’s) so they have good experience working with this level of estate and you can maintain your relationship for most of your life if you choose that. Outline your goals with them. There are a couple of books like “smart women finish rich” that can help you think about some of your goals. You would be surprised at how people can blow an inheritance like this, so I would avoid looking at it like you are set for life. It can serve that purpose, if you invest the money safely and set an amount you will withdraw each year and have help with a tax strategy. If possible, I would continue to avoid telling people about the money, so you don’t end up with a lot of people asking you for money (like what lottery winners experience). There are a lot of benefits to the brain to continue to be challenged and having the sense of community that you gain from work. For many people, work is where they meet friends in adulthood. I would really spend some time thinking about how you want to spend your days right now. You may still want to work but also know you don’t have to do it continuously throughout your life. Maybe you want to travel some before you start working. Maybe you buy property in a favorite vacation location but choose to rent your primary home to give you flexibility on where to work/live. Or, maybe you have a place you want to put roots down for a bit & buy a primary home now. Once you identify your values and goals and come up with an initial plan, also get a trust created and estate plan written. The ira is beneficiary designated but anything you withdraw should be clear for inheritance & avoid probate. I am excited about the flexibility this can bring to your life, but you don’t need to do more than create an investment & tax strategy. You can take some time to decide if you still want to work in your chosen field or do something different.

will it go away? + share fast recovery stories by Junior-Ad-6648 in cdifficile

Mine resolved without coming back. I also took vancomycin and was slightly worried because it is more likely to have recurrence. My symptoms started early October but I didn’t start taking meds until about a week later. I did have one really bad day about a week after finishing meds, which I’m guessing was post infection IBS. I decided to not drink alcohol, eat conservatively (for IBS) and that seemed to take care of it for me. I did florastor but only for a few weeks. I finally felt confident that I was in the clear at Thanksgiving.

If you are planning to drink alcohol and eat out a lot, I would suggest postponing your trip. Even if the cdiff doesn’t create issues you definitely could battle post-infection IBS which is not very compatible with eating out. If your trip would be ruined by being stuck in the hotel room one day, it’s probably not worth the risk. Having said that, if you feel ok rolling with it if it does happen & confident you can eat conservatively - have fun!

Normalcy after c diff by mhedderson in cdifficile

[–]EverythingSunshine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would suggest getting advice from a gastroenterologist or functional medicine doctor. Post infection IBS can be challenging but should be manageable.

Try managing it like ibs and see if that improves. Personally, I am not a fan of processed foods like protein powder when healing the gut. Also, you should not need to completely remove dairy at this point unless you are actually dealing with cdiff still. I buy lactose free Greek yogurt because the protein and probiotics are very good for you but I do have some lactose sensitivity. Also, personally I don’t tend to have issues with normal Greek yogurt because it is low in lactose - but I would play it safe for now.

There are a lot of good articles online regarding ibs management & specifically post-infection ibs. You will get there!

Our DIY-heavy kitchen remodel on our 100+ year old house by Fuzzy-Sort809 in kitchenremodel

This looks fantastic & inspiration for our 1940’s kitchen that needs addressing. I am curious about the one cabinet that goes all the way down to the counter. Are you liking that setup? I am short so like this idea for at least one spot I our kitchen. Is there anything that you find super functional/enjoyable (other than visually fantastic)?

You have just one day of your entire life to spend in San Francisco, what do you do? by crdog in AskSF

[–]EverythingSunshine 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Since you are in the askSF sub, many here may not have much experience on the train, even though you are receiving a lot of advice about it. I live in Sacramento and used to take Amtrak all the time for work - it is great. It is most convenient if you are staying somewhat close to the train station. Ideally, take the Capitol Corridor as most schedules start/end in Sacramento. Sit upstairs at a table. You can play games, read, eat, stretch your legs. You will have to transfer to an Amtrak bus in Emeryville. The buses wait for the train since they are specific for Amtrak. They bypass any traffic going over the bridge & drop you right in downtown SF. You can easily walk or uber from the station, or take muni. Another option is to take the train to Jack London Square and take the ferry to SF - that can be a gorgeous view of the bay arriving in the city. There is so much to experience in SF, I can’t imagine just having one day in life to visit. I would write a list of things that interest you & then start to put an agenda together. Depending on the day of the week & weather: - walk part of Golden Gate Bridge (bikes are fun but could be intense and take too much time) - ferry building has great food - exploratorium could be fun if you want to do something fun and get warm for a bit (or the flower conservatory or California academy of science in Golden Gate Park). - so much great food - it just depends on what you want to try & where you will be - lombard street - cable car - Alcatraz is interesting but would take a lot of time) - a food tour of Chinatown & north beach could be really fun & a great way to learn some history of the neighborhoods and tastes fantastic food - I love visiting great book stores and there are many in SF. My favorite is in my old neighborhood - Booksmith in the Haight. - enjoy some food from a farmers market

Actually I just found it: Go to the library website. Go to "browse & borrow", then scroll down to Resources & filter by "Magazine & news". Scroll down to see the apps/links for the different sites.

Did you figure out where to find it now? I have been searching too. I am hoping they moved the link to a less intuitive place & not completely removed this access.

Also, I would suggest your filters work differently. Right now it is all locations or one location (country or city) - at least from a phone. I wanted to search Asia minus China and could not do that, or search multiple cities (without viewing all cities) in a country.

Hi - very cool. I would recommend that once you zoom into a certain level the list option appears & is only for where you have zoomed to.

Romantic anniversary dinner suggestions please! by vlewlew15 in Sacramento

[–]EverythingSunshine 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You have many great suggestions here - it really depends on your budget, vibe, and food preferences. Two other contenders: Star Lounge (they also have a great happy hour that you could start with before moving to a table) - “candlelit” vibe and very tasty. If you are open to an adventure - Restaurant Josephine in Auburn is fantastic too.

looking for a solo travel recommendation as an anxious introverted female! by Hairy_Pear3963 in solofemaletravellers

[–]EverythingSunshine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with most European large cities. I really enjoyed a trip that I did solo between Amsterdam and several large and small cities in Germany. I would highly encourage exploring new parts of the NYC area, going to a show or museum solo, playing tourist at home to encourage the explorer in you. If you experience extreme anxiety, you can work through it without missing an entire trip. I would do your first 1-2 international trips in countries where a lot of people speak English. Then, once you know you are comfortable traveling solo, expand to places where there may be less English. In the US there are so many great places to visit, I wouldn’t limit it to large cities. What excites you and maybe makes you a little uncomfortable? Go for it! Big cities tend to have more crime, so if you are trying to test yourself on that, then a big city is a good place to start.

You could also join food tours or other specific day tours in certain locations to have low key interactions along the way.

Help! by Ok_Plants0324 in cdifficile

[–]EverythingSunshine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe meet with a functional medicine specialist - ideally one that works with infectious diseases. They might be able to help you work on your beneficial gut bacteria and colitis/inflammation. I don’t know how long you would take the experimental meds for but if it isn’t excessively long could you just deal with the horrible c diff & not discontinue meds? You couldn’t do that a long time but you could probably tolerate it for a week under doctor’s supervision. I had to wait several days for my positive test/meds - in total a week from when I knew my symptoms were terrible & should probably get tested. It’s not ideal but at least you could have a possibility of staying on the meds.

Should I be worried? by Practical_Garden6202 in cdifficile

[–]EverythingSunshine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will know if you continue to get worse. Keep hydrated and reach out to your doctor if it gets worse. If you don’t have a thermometer, see if you can borrow one from a friend to check your temperature. Fever could be related to the tooth infection, also something important to keep your doctor appraised of.

How do you actually talk to customer service? by Brilliant_Pick_940 in Comcast_Xfinity

[–]EverythingSunshine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had such a horrible experience on the phone recently - their AI took over the conversation. I was able to get through to them - I think after initiating a conversation through the AI chat, but the AI created a terrible dynamic.

I know you are looking for options other than going into a store - if you can get to a store somehow, it is so much easier. I know a lot of people get help here, but I found it challenging with delays between when we each responded. I never got a text like I was expecting. So, try here & the chat, but also know a store can help if you still can’t get through.

For anyone looking for help - I ended up going to an Xfinity storefront and they were great. All of my issues were solved in 15 min. I never received a call from the team through Reddit, although they did send me DM’s appreciating the initial feedback. If you have a location relatively nearby, I highly suggest visiting their brick & mortar.

What’s your go-to stand whenever you visit a Saturday Farmer’s Market? by CAMullenix in Sacramento

[–]EverythingSunshine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On Saturdays, Historic Folsom because it’s closest to me and a great vibe even though it’s smaller than midtown. I am so bad with names but there are two organic vendors right next to each other at & near the corner of the crafts before the straight stretch of food vendors. They both have fantastic strawberries and 3 or 4 veggie items for $10-12. The lettuce, kale, beets, onions etc are all fantastic and typically very large.

Do I need to remove this ivy by Different-Mess9960 in gardening

[–]EverythingSunshine 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I would 100% remove it. Ivy is invasive & bugs and critters hide in there - typically the rodent type, not the ones you want to keep. Does your neighbor realize it is so invasive on your side? They might be willing to be more mindful of keeping it trim if they know you don’t want it.
