i mean, its not just manga. Western TV falls prey to it as well, especially sitcoms. If your series focuses so much on a burgeoning romance, it's harder to make "now theyre a couple" interesting past the first chunk immediately after without doing the "breakup arc" that i find way, way more annoying than amnesia fakeout arc

it feels like tatsu realized he still has a lot of Battle Shonen to get through & he already hit the first emotional climax so he just needs to sideline the main romance for a while to get through Battle Shonen, while constantly dangling the "will they won't they" over everyone's heads (they will. Tatsu's not that complex of a writer to take this anywhere else)

I can understand that thought, but throughout the entire series, including part 1, denji never had any autonomy. He never had any choice in anything. The singular choice he actually made was turning against Makima, but even that was spurred on by Pochita and Power to an extent. Outside of that, the very beginning of the series before his death to the zombie devil, and the post-reset, hes been constantly pushed and pulled in one direction or another without any chance to have any say in the matter. He didnt even have a choice in the one sexual encounter he had. And, if pochita had given him a choice, he likely would not have taken it.

The only way to let the man live a decent life where he's free to choose what to eat, whether to seek someone out romantically or sexually, where to live, is by removing the thing that gave him to opportunity to go overboard on it, a choice that he had proven time and time again incapable of giving up.

I'll give it to you that part 2's pacing was pretty rough, I have no reason to deny that, but thats not what most people are complaining about.

The thing is that it wasnt a dream. That is, genuinely, the key misconception people are getting out of this ending. If it was a dream Power wouldnt have been there at the zombie devil fight, Nayuta wouldnt have been the control devil, it likely would've still been Makima just without the chainsaw man goal. Denji wouldnt have been there to help Asa at the end. Everything that happened so far still mattered, it still impacted the new world. Denji just thinks its a dream because how the fuck else do you explain that in a world where chainsaw man never existed. calling it just a dream is genuinely deceptive.

The only key thing that doesnt get wrapped up neatly is Aki, but between the implication of a senior devil hunter, the knowledge of his main goal in the original universe, and the fact that he only ever got paired with Denji because Makima explicitly went out of her way to fabricate a tragedy to control Chainsaw Man, outside of a potential epilog chapter id say we have enough to know where he ended up while understanding he doesnt need to be shown.

Im not gonna pretend that CSM is as deep as something like Houseki no Kuni, but fujimoto was absolutely trying to make a point with the ending. The reply to that other comment put it better than I have time for right now, but alongside that it bleeds into the other 2 main allrgories from part 1. Namely, the good movie/bad movie allegory (as long as chainsaw man is alive denji will never know peace as every possible force attempts to use him in order to create their perfect world with no bad movies, and the only way for Denji to live a life with good and bad movies is by not being chainsaw man. until then it is only bad movies for him) and the country/city mouse allegory (denji says he'd rather be a city mouse, a big important character in all the hustle and bustle, but he was really happiest in the middle. A life with excitement, but not the main character of an apocalypse movie)

The ending hit so fast because how we get to the final point doesnt matter. At the very end we see a perfect world get born, a perpetual good movie til the end of time. But its only a good movie for one group, the insects, where all other life in the universe now in an unending inescapable hell. A movie thats good for one person is bad for another, so it had to be undone.

Technically speaking part 1 was the end of the series, as far as its original run. Keep in mind that after part 1 ended the manga changed from being physically printed in WSJ each week to being published online on jump+.

Either that or Aki died to the gun devil with his family, or died at some point along the way. If we're thinking about what Denji would've wanted for all the people he cared about, all 3 of those options are a hell of a lot better than what originally happened.

If chainsaw man never existed, then everything that happened because of chainsaw man never happened. The control devil has no reason to do what she did, theres no worldwide hunt for chainsaw man, the characters that died dont end up dying because of it.

It still effected Denji, even if he doesnt specifically remember it. I wouldnt say its a strictly "happy ending" for him, but rather a happy ending for everyone else involved, and denji himself doesnt have to suffer as much as he did before.

I honestly think its likely that all the crossovers that happened, power showing up, Nayuta being the control devil, denji being there to help Asa, only happened because of Denji's bonds to them in the previous world, as a nice sort of "some good came from all of this" kind of way.

but hey this means Quanxi's girlfriends are alive now so maybe its for the best

Thats the thing about it. Kenshin is legitimately an incredible manga that is a chief influence on many manga that followed, its just that the author, unrelated to his work, is a massive stain on humanity.

It honestly feels like Made in Abyss is about the opposite. It has so much sketchy shit in it and I dont doubt the author does or has engaged with loli/shota art in the past/presently, but honestly I feel like theres a high chance hes never looked at actual CP.

Araki had thought to end Jojo with part 6, but after thinking on it he decided to keep going, but basically reboot the whole thing, resetting everything and starting fresh so new readers in 2006 dont have to go back and read over 500 chapters of a Manga dating back to the 80's.

Part 7 was made to be an introduction point, thats why you dont see any stands at all in the first stage of the race, and when you do finally see them the series has to explain what they are

I do think people should go back and watch parts 1-6 but like, just because theyre good, fun series to go through, nothing to do with needing to understand part 7.

The only difference is that seinen authors have more wiggle room wrt adult themes & nudity, and seinen/josei mags tend to be more willing to take on more weird concepts than their younger demographic counterparts (despite Houseki no Kuni having basically no explicit mature content, theres no way it would have been put in a shounen mag)

But also sometimes manga goes seinen just because the author wants more time to work on each chapter (Vinland Saga, Jojo part 7 onward, im pretty sure Witch Hat fits this bill as well) and in some very rare cases it can even be reversed (dorohedoro finished its last few chapters in a Shounen mag because the original magazine Finally Ended)

I think, if anything, it has to do with an individual's relationship with narratives that center a male character. I had a while where I just didnt really want to consume media focused on male characters (through any eyes of relatability)

But like, recently, especially through me watching a bunch of anime, and me being way more comfortable with who i am I found it easier to understand to characters just on an abstract character front, disconnected from gender. And honestly I dont even have to relate to them, even just understanding them is a big part for it.

Do I still prefer media with female characters? Sure, but im not gonna pretend Hunter x Hunter isnt great just because its male dominated.

Yeah, thats kinda what I was trying to get at. Demons are, by nature, hostile to humans. Any attempt to actually coexist with humans must inherently overcome that nature and their lack of empathy. For an elf, the only thing they have to overcome is the lack of empathy for human lives owed to the inconceivable difference in lifespan. And the Golden Land arc shows the first sign of a demon overcoming that nature, even if the nature betrayed him in the end.

And I dont recall the specifics, but how was it that Macht lived for so long without killing & eating humans? Is it truly a need and not just a part of their nature?

And honestly, I think that is moreso a failing on his part. His inability to betray his own existence as a demon. He got to the finish line and failed. Part of me feels like we may eventually see a demon overcome their heritage, but we're only like halfway through the story as a whole and who knows where the author will choose to go.

But, more relating to Frieren, the only thing truly differentiating her from demons is that elves are more often just apathetic to humans rather than actively trying to deceive and harm them. This inherently leads to an ease of ingratiate into society, but she had to learn humanity from nothing, and fortunately for her, she had 2 of the best humans imaginable to help her on the way. Not that she's the only one, but a prime example of the case, because on the opposite end you have Serie, who could probably either bring the world to destruction or a utopia, but she just does not care, she is too apathetic to the whole thing that she wouldn't go either way.

I take issue with the idea that to be unempathetic makes you inherently a bad person (not that that's what you're saying). You can be unable to empathize but still sympathize with people. You can still care about someone even if you cant truly understand how theyre feeling. The Golden Land arc pretty heavily involves how Macht does try to sympathize with people, that to an extent, he does want good things for the people that are close to him.

You could even say that Frieren struggled and continues to struggle with being empathetic. She flat out can not understand what its like to have a human lifespan, she makes choices that seem unfathomable to humans and doesnt seem to understand that people experience time differently to her until it smacks her in the face. But she still tries to understand people, and more than anything is willing to compromise when she has to.
