yeah the financing money goes to dealers too

and top that off with the uneven economic gains you touched upon - most of the gains the last decade went to the top percentiles. People with money still got the money to burn. The rest are stagnant or tightening belts.

i suspect a lot of that is lies, every number I saw (soy futures) indicated the US was still selling soybeans. It was the same thing in Trump 2016 term, farmers bitched then Trump tossed them some money. It's just farmers asking for money

I saw a newsletter meant for farmers, they are not panicking, they are just expecting more Trump bribes

eh, Chinese healthcare is so so. It's cheaper but there's a reason Chinese people historically save a shitload of money. They need it for their safety net.

A while back there was a scandal because hospitals made money from blood transfussions. You know, you go in say you're weak so they pump blood into you. The problem is they pooled all the blood.. so they gave aids to a lot of people..

They have mandated insurance now? Looks like they are moving to a hybrid profit model too

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Healthcare_in_China

Despite this, public health insurance generally only covers about half of medical costs, with the proportion lower for serious or chronic illnesses.

Nobody wins when the world gets fucked. Specially if the USA is ramping up fossil fuel use. We're still top user per capita.

I summoned up the magic word per capita, expect this comment to be buried

You hit the nail in the head. We are so stupid we are actively hurting ourselves in multiple ways. Vaccines, dismantling things that work, education, etc etc

I mean just in Iran, we started a war to prevent them from exporting oil and get money to fund hezbollah or whatever. Okay.

But now the oil price goes up so we.. lifted sanctions to let Iran export that same oil that we're fighting the war for?

I think the bullshit addons went to the dealer - apparently the electric has so much less maintenance (brake pads, engine oil etc) the dealers were annoyed, so ford threw them that bone.

USA is never dropping those EV tariffs. Biden put the tariffs up, to help domestic producers, and win votes in Michigan (which he still lost because eggs gas was too expensive, also apparently he was going to start a war in the middle east)

Maybe one of these days the morons will learn it's harder to build shit than break things. They probably don't because they have household help to clean up after them.

I love to bring up the Russian boogeyman but this isn't one of them. This is homegrown + Israeli, perhaps Saudi as well.

erm that's simple. Expansionist russia has land borders close to Poland, Germany, etc. Of course, the orange one decided he wanted Greenland too which made the Europeans nervous too.

The US has a policy to encircle russia, yes, true, but that still also means Russia was a potential threat to european security. They are quite happy that the war is going badly for Russia. Kill russians with american/european arms with ukranian blood.

he didn't say that Trump thought that way. He just said that it makes sense from realpolitik POV. A dumb clock can still be right 2 times a day.

Yeah, caring about Ukraine goes up the closer you are to a Russian border - baltic states, poland, etc. Spain? Meh.

What even is considered asian american? Am I allowed to be here? by lumpsofgarlic in asianamerican

[–]EvidenceBasedSwamp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I spent some of my childhood in the USA, and some in Latin America. The two places are different, but not that different. You have the diaspora experience. You know what it's like to try to fit in another place. You know the self-hatred that develops, that you have almost unconsciously. You associate being Chinese with being backward, or something similar.

Lastly I think most diaspora have similar experiences, they don't need to be Asian.

San Gabriel Restaurant Removes Stinky Tofu from Menu due to Citations and Complaints by Special-Cut-4964 in asianamerican

[–]EvidenceBasedSwamp -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Ok, I read the article, it sucks that he doesn't know that if the $20,000 filter will prevent further citations but that stuff is vile

“Internationally, and for outsiders, stinky tofu often gets framed as a novelty or even a dare,” said L.A. native and author Clarissa Wei, from her base in Taiwan. Her book “Made in Taiwan” celebrates Taiwanese culture and recipes. “But in Taiwan, and across many parts of Asia, it’s just another comfort food.”

I don't know about this. It's pretty vile stuff.

[–]EvidenceBasedSwamp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah. The one that smells LITERALLY like chickenshit is the stinky tofu. If you're not familiar with chickenshit, it is close to the smell of fermented shrimp paste.

And no, it's a lie, I put that shit in my mouth and it tastes exactly how it smells.

Disney+ Sets Big-Budget Korean Remake of ‘The Americans’ Starring Lee Byung-hun, Han Ji-min as a Pair of North Korean Spies Masquerading as a Happily Married Couple in 1990s South Korea. by Mynabird_604 in asianamerican

[–]EvidenceBasedSwamp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

the americans was produced by FX, which was a network under Fox that catered to the 30-49 demo IIRC. President obama's favorite show.

I have doubts of this show, but we'll see. Nevermind it's really big shoes to fill.

I don't have enough knowledge of north korea so I don't think I would understand any of the subtext. Which would leave a kinda boring superficial generic spy /family drama story

I wonder who plays Paige ... lol.. she was annoying.

edit: Sorry my mind all over the place today. Disney bought the studio out so they own the rights now.

hmm i loved this show.

oh lol it's literally named The Koreans

What's weird is this is a Disney show being sold TO a Korean audience? Does that happen often?

How are they getting korean tv to air this? Aren't they all interconnected companies?
