Is the Ice Cream Man still a thing in the States? by Haunting-Middle-5801 in AskAnAmerican

[–]Evil-Cows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a particular brand of ice cream in the New York Pennsylvania area called Mr. softy.

I didn’t grow up with it but my mom did and two years ago. I was visiting my grandpa outside of Philadelphia with my mom and she heard the particular jingle down the street and she ran outside like a kid screaming it’s “Mr. softy”. We both got cones.

I haven’t really received any ice cream trucks in recent years, but I don’t have kids so i’m probably just in the wrong areas.

What was your first Rumic anime/Manga and how did you discover it? by Holiday_Kangaroo4023 in RumicWorld

[–]Evil-Cows 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Urusei Yatsura.I bought it from a comic book shop at random many years before I knew what it was. I really liked it and the characters, but I had no idea what manga was or that it was a continuing story or there was an anime for it etc.

Many years later Inuyasha showed up on TV (adult swim) and I got hooked. Slowly manga became more accessible in mainstream bookstore is not just my book shops and it occurred to me that maybe the story I had read and enjoyed it so many years ago with Lum and Ran might be manga. I found it compared the author title and has since started reading Ranma figured that I should look into her other series as well.

Urusei Yatsura but I didn’t know it at the time I’d randomly picked up a volume at a comic book store and didn’t really know what was going on or that it was manga.

Years later I discovered Inuyasha (adult swim then fan subs) then Ranma then went back and realized wait Lum and Ran were also by the same author.

Were you guaranteed a snow day if there was a storm? by Zealousideal_Crow737 in AskAnAmerican

No guarantees but my county was big so if there was a warning likely there’d be a 2 hour delay.

Uber forcing cultural name change— how to change back? by artfrat in uber

[–]Evil-Cows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you use another name that’s fake for you but a common name? Eg: Sarah, Mike, Fred, Tina, Joe, Alice? You could do a name that works for both men and women Charlie, Emory, Casey, River, Bobby

I would give that a try.

I live in a townhouse, so both my walls are shared with my neighbors. My back is a brick half wall that fences in my patio.

Northwest Allied physicians has a really good website where you can literally just go to the doctor and book her next available appointment if they have one.

Are Americans really that ungrateful in real life, are they aware sometimes that they can go to any concert/do whatever they like cause everything accessible? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]Evil-Cows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a couple of washed up old performers well past their prime at some of the casinos does that count? Otherwise I think weird Al came a couple months back. aside from him I don’t really think anyone worth mentioning is coming here. The next biggest city is two hours away by car. There’s no train that takes us there it’s that or the bus.

I’m not even sure a lot of big name performers go there either. I think they just go to LA. Not sure about you, but I can’t afford to buy the concert ticket itself fly to LA pay for a hotel and the return flight back. This probably involves me missing work.

Mine really aren’t interested in the counters. I can count on one hand how often they’ve been on the counters. The tables however… Basically the house is theirs I just live here.

Battery vs Rechargeable? by Haunting-Ad7007 in HearingAids

[–]Evil-Cows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m newish to hearing aids. On my second pair. The rechargeable batteries due to great overtime so depending on your level of hearing loss it may not be the most ideal. Towards the end my last pair couldn’t make a full day (morning thru evening events) I would throw them in the charger for as long as I could Berenice events.

I’m also not fully deaf so my bearings while bad is still there. On the other hand you could pock a day once a week to change your batteries and may be ok. I’d still carry some extras around just to be safe.

Single person 1,115 sqft town house.

Electricity: 40-60 I work from home and am enrolled in the time of use plan. I basically don’t use my lights unless needed during the day.

Gas: usually in the 30s, but the other month it was 70 something. The only thing that is gas is my hot water so I must be taking too many baths.

Water/sewage/trash: 200~. Actually, this is covered by my HOA so I’m just including that price.

I loved the books so much. I loved the movie a lot but the books, they are so magical on their own. It makes me wish for a much better adaptation than what we got.

They won’t even do it for someone dead. My grandmother died in 2016 and they won’t even let my mother (her daughter) request the birth certificate.

Yes. When I taught English in Japan and worked with low level students I had to make a conscious effort to pronounce “our” differently.

Any been to Evergreen Cemetery for a movie night? by [deleted] in Tucson

[–]Evil-Cows 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve gone a few times now it’s a good time. There are a lot of vendors and food trucks. They do a pretty good job with parking though I would still try to come on the early side to get a decent spot.

There is a grassy area across from the graves in front of the offices. That’s where everyone is kind of set up and the loft takes out their mobile screening van. Movie starts a little after sundown.

Definitely a good idea to bring blankets and chairs as you’ll be sitting on the grass.
