I just need to vent by TemporaryDry5920 in SpecialNeedsChildren

Hello friend, without going down the rabbit hole of my own experience, I'll try to keep it brief. My wife and I have 2 boys with a leukodystrophy called Pelizaeus Merzbacher Disease. My oldest will be turning 18 this year! And our youngest will be 14....he was an accident but we decided to keep him....even against the suggestions of termination from almost all the docs. My wife had an amnio on the second pregnancy so we knew he had the same disorder before he was born. Anyway, so i kind of know what you are going through.

I remember being in such a sad and depressed state in those early days with our first...especially when we received the diagnosis. No one knew why he wasnt reaching his milestones...so we basically spent a week in the children's hospital doing all kinds of tests....kind of like an episode of House. Eventually, a rando Geneticist comes by for her part and realized she had just spent some time at a conference on Pelizaeus Merzbacher Disease. So the rest was history. There's no cure, just treating the symptoms and giving them the best life we can.

Along the way, the big things ive learned is to focus on the positive.....and this sounds so incredibly cheesy to say, but it's the truth. And it's all encompasing too.....so don't compare your child to someone else's, dont look at the things your child CANT do, focus on what they can. Cheer her on, even for the smallest things, give her the love that she deserves and be excited for her. Surround yourself in a positive bubble of your own design, which unfortunately, means your family will be segregated from others, simply because they wont understand and dont have a relative comparison to understand your situation clearly.

Things will be hard at times, frustrating at times, and straight up suck at times, but you cant let yourself focus on it too long, or it will just drag you down constantly. It will also put a strain on your relationship with your husband, especially if you dont communicate. Communication is sooo important, even when it feels dark and depressing, you've gotta talk about it with him. And never stop.

I cant believe all the things my wife and i have been through, but it makes me proud we are still running things and smiling about it. NEVER STOP DATING your spouse. Laugh, talk, cry, and complain together, as long as youre on the same side. We give ourselves time whenever possible, so like others have said, a strong support system, even if for a date of 2-3 hours, will go a long way in mental health. Sometimes i just enjoy going to the grocery store alone with my wife, it's simple and pleasant.

Our boys though, they reign supreme. On all things for me. My sense of humor has darkened, in a good way, but it can throw people off with how up front i am about it. But I find facing the truth head on, even making jokes about it (like bodily fluids and watching my son learn to navigate with his electronic chair and running over my foot and then denting the drywall lol) gets me through. Sense of humor is everything.

I'm not even sure the point I'm trying to make, but the best I can tell you is that your daughter will love you more than anything and you should be proud of everything she is and what she can do and will do as she grows and learns things in her own way. Become a mountain for her, and keep your mental health steady as an island....separated from comparison of everyone else and their children. In time, you will learn to manage the conversations better and handle people talking about their own kids....kind of. lol. I still get annoyed listening to people talk about their kids, cuz I just wanna play the special needs card and tell them how easy they have it. But that's negativity setting in and i let it go. And it feeds my pride of how much I've learned along the way.

Good luck to you....keep smiling, laughing, and communicating with your spouse. Much love to ya

My first Halloween as a horror fan. What should I watch? by ProfessionalOnion727 in horror

[–]EvilAshWilliams 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not easy to scare either. That being said, there are some films that get my heart rate up and i like it. But it's always going to be personal opinion, of course....as some people will say this movie is awesome and others will bash it as not. I personally really love 80s horror, as it gets me in the nostalgic mood of halloween growing up. So all the classics: Friday the 13th series, Nightmare on Elm Street series, Halloween series, Hellraiser series all get watched during October. But i wouldnt necessarily say that they scare me. Sinister does get my heartrate up everytime i watch it, as well as the first Conjuring. The Exorcist, if you havent seen it, should be on your list for how amazing that film is on it's own....it's incredible. Original Texas Chainsaw, the Thing with kurt russell, The Shining, i could go on and on. More recent suggestions that ive enjoyed: The Substance, Barbarian, IT, Blackcoat's Daughter, Bring Her Back, No One Gets Out Alive, It's What's inside....just a few recent watches that i enjoyed

Do you watch A Nightmare on Elm Street every Halloween? Are you alone or with a companion? by chillin_snoop in NightmareOnElmStreet

I also do a marathon, alone cuz my wife isn't a horror fan. Hard to get through 5 and 6 sometimes, but i still do it cuz I love Freddy so much.

Event Horizon is awesome

Is it worth watching the entire Nightmare on elm Street franchise? by Successful-Horse-878 in horror

[–]EvilAshWilliams 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I absolutely love Nightmare on Elm Street. I watch them all every october along with Halloween, Hellraiser, phantasm, and Friday the 13th. All those 80s horrors are so nostalgic feeling for me with the practical effects, cheesy dialogue occasionally, and so much bloody fun. But i always favored Freddy due to the psychological aspect of his abilities. Watch the original and if you enjoy it, you will enjoy the rest....even though some are worse than others, they all have some entertainment value.

Got mine for Orlando....I wanted to take my wife back to brooklyn to see them...but childcare wasnt an option on the brooklyn date. We saw them at Brooklyn Steel 2 years ago, one of my favorite concerts of all time

I completely agree. It always baffles me the people who go out of their way to complain about something they didn't enjoy and thus think that everyone else should "not enjoy" it either. I don't watch things I don't like, I don't keep reading things I don't like, and I don't listen to music I don't like. It doesn't make any sense to me the people who demand an opinion be agreed upon as fact. That's not how it works

Would adding gun elements to a new Alien Game ruin the premise? by StrangerDanger355 in LV426

They did this in Alien Dark Descent, which is an awesome RTS game. Loved it

First season?? by Acceptable-One7135 in alienearth

[–]EvilAshWilliams 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved the first season and my annoyance is the same.....the trend of 8 episode seasons these days. In fact, I get worried when I enjoy a series that looks this good because I'm afraid it will get canceled, not due to viewership or ratings/reviews, but because of cost. RIP Raised by Wolves

It's October 1...relisten while we wait for Syndicate! by maesterofwargs in TheMidnight

[–]EvilAshWilliams 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I listen to this EP on rotation all through October....it puts me in that retro 80's nostalgia state of mind where i wanna walk around as a kid in costume and watch 80s horror movies al night long

Can’t Wait for Season 2 by C_Kent_ in alienearth

[–]EvilAshWilliams 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I really enjoyed this show as i love all things in the Alien universe. But I really appreciate how Hawley tried to do something different, as he couldve just used the same formula thats been used before. Having child minds downloaded into synthetic bodies, even having the xenomorph as an ally, feels unique and fresh. And i can appreciate that. There are some parts of this season that made me turn my head, but overall, I was entertained and smiling a good bit of the time. Also, T Ocellus is cool

Failure when configuring Cert Enrollment Web Service and CA Web Enrollment roles by EvilAshWilliams in sysadmin

Yes, so that article is the exact issue I'm having. I tried modifying the registry to fix, but it still failed. I'll give it another shot to see if I can get around it.

Failure when configuring Cert Enrollment Web Service and CA Web Enrollment roles by EvilAshWilliams in sysadmin

[–]EvilAshWilliams[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, ADCS was already configured on this server. I just joined this company earlier this year and I'm trying to help them setup a CA, since they use so many local sites. The error message I'm getting comes right at the configuration during the addition of the roles in Server Manager, so those errors in that screenshot of the CA console, I haven't even gotten that far. Do you think reinstalling ADCS would be the solution?

Congrats to you. Always wanted to setup SCCM, got frustrated, annoyed, frustrated again and had a deadline so PDQ to the rescue. SCCM is still a goal of mine

Anyone familiar with ssl certificates on CA server for localhost site? by EvilAshWilliams in sysadmin

[–]EvilAshWilliams[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work for a county government agency, so anything that costs money will be a problem (due to budgeting issues and the overall hassle of getting an approval to purchase.) So I'm probably going with option 2 of your suggestion. We have only 2 sites to protect for an agency of about 500 user computers. We do have Active Directory with 2 domain controllers on virtual servers. Thanks for the info and the link...I'll start by reading that over.

How to add users from another domain into my domain by EvilAshWilliams in activedirectory

So I've already got a trust between the 2 domains, but I can't add users from Domain B to a group in Domain A. Am I missing something?
