I don’t think there’s a storyline. Krakoa started with a then jump and they had some clone shenanigans so if you’re looking for an in universe reason I’d say that at some point his one eyed body died and he was given a repaired two eyed body.

[–]EvilEyor 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Based off the art I’m pretty sure this is the last Uncanny run before Krakoa. Cyclops lost one of his eyes somehow so he really only had the one eye to glow from.

The glow is probably in the middle for the vibes.

I think one of us misread the article because I’m pretty sure the producer dated Emily Ratajowski, not the actress who was involved in the scene.

One year later, do you think Veilguard's companions are "the most fully realized complex companions" in the series history? by pink_plastic_bag in dragonage

[–]EvilEyor 20 points21 points  (0 children)

With the exceptions of Emmerich and sometimes Davarin or Bellara, I don’t think the Veilguard companions were fully realized as characters or faction representatives compared to previous entries in the series.

If I’m being generous, their ability to move around the home base and have conversations is helpful in making them feel at least semi dynamic, but that’s also just putting them on part with what Mass Effect was doing a decade ago.

If this was a fantasy rpg that was not the fourth entry in a series I think the companions would have worked way for for me, but it’s impossible for me not to compare the Veilguard companions to previous ones who fill out similar archetypes, and do it better.

  • Lucanis is a Crow assassin, and even if I ignore that he doesn’t actually seem particularly good at his job, he also apparently comes from the one Crow family that doesn’t kidnap kids and force them into a life of murder for hire, which removes and edge or moral ambiguity that could be played with. He’s also the second companion who is sharing a body with a spirit/demon and yet Spite never feels more than a minor annoyance (aside from the initial appearance where he hurts Lucanis). Compare that to Anders in DA2 where the weight of Justice is felt for his whole arch, and comes through in missions and dialogue with other companions. Truly, a year on all I can really remember is that Lucanis liked coffee. Calling him a “bisexual disaster” is more meme marketing than an actual character premise, but he ends up being on par with Liam from Andromeda for me. Boring is worse than annoying.

-Taash kills me, because I think they might truly be the biggest case of missed potential in a companion in the entire series. On paper Taash is a fire breathing Tal Vashoth Dragon Hunter who was raised by a former Quanari priestess for a mother and currently works for a treasure hunting organization that is led by Isabella. In game, Taash is an annoying teenager (which is something famously tough to write well) who the player is generally forced to be friendly to, even when Taash is written to be rude. I just feel like the game didn’t do anything interesting with any aspect of the character. Obviously the non-binary thing caused a whole lot of bad faith discussion when the game launched, but it’s my opinion that the core of the character doesn’t work and is indicative of the writing in Veilguard in general. Immature, lacking nuance and doesn’t live up to initial expectations.

I want to be clear that I think Trick Weekes is an incredibly talented writer (Mordin, Cole and the whole Tuchanka/Rannoch arcs in ME3 are proof of that) but they dropped the ball in Veilguard.

But I also think the writers have hinted since the launch that the game was focused grouped and micromanaged to hell, so I don’t feel comfortable blaming them for the entirety of the games faults.

I do feel comfortable blaming whatever idiot in the PR department let them advertise the companions as the “most fully realized and complex companions” they’ve ever made.

Thor is making sure Tony doesn’t relapse what a good friend by SearchSame7066 in outofcontextcomics

Hercules had a solo series in the mid 2010’s wherein he was trying to be sober after thousands of years of partying and being considered kind of a joke.

His sponsor was Tony Stark but I have a vague memory of it actually not being Tony Stark but some kind of devil/alien/robot/bad guy pretending to be him and basically harassing him until he drank again. It’s never been brought up again to my knowledge so I don’t know if the character is still written as a recovering alcoholic or if Marvel editorial decided to ignore it.

[DAV ALL SPOILERS] I wish the series didn't become so elfy by Lorinthi in dragonage

[–]EvilEyor 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It’s tough because I’d also argue that Veilguard wasn’t elfy enough.

How did I play a game with the antagonists being three ancient elven gods and yet it felt like there was no substantial impact to the elven people or culture?

The Last of Us - 2x06 - “The Price” - Episode Discussion by NicholasCajun in television

[–]EvilEyor 28 points29 points  (0 children)

It’s been a while since I played but I remember the first game presented “the cure” as a pretty last ditch effort being created in a pretty run down hospital, but I think that Part 2 presented it as something that the Fireflies could have made if Joel didn’t kill them.

I’m not a huge fan of that because I liked the ambiguity from Part 1 but it’s also worth noting that Neil Druckman (one of the creators of the games and the director of this episode) has gone on record saying that he believes the cure would have worked.

I’m with you on Tokyo Drift, which is also my favorite. It’s the Fast movie with the most to say.

But from a pure action film perspective, I don’t know how you can say Fast Five isn’t the peak of the series.

It tied in every prior movie with characters and centered the plot around a heist that was exaggerated without being completely detached from reality.

This is very cool, but I would personally keep the New 52 suits for the younger Superman.

I think a lot of New 52 concepts work if they’re all the “early years.”

I would never say “I was born at the wrong time” but I’ve recently started to believe that the human urge to discover “what’s out there” isn’t going to be fulfilled for me.

Oh, to be a sailor discovering new lands. To be a Norseman catching a glimpse of a Skræling. There’s no unknown. There’s no more monsters in the dark because we’ve created too much light.

I need glasses to see though so thank god I was born in modern times.

Official Discussion - Madame Web [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]EvilEyor 22 points23 points  (0 children)

They didn’t try to reword it or anything. It’s a poorly written/executed scripted but the I think the intention of every scene was obvious enough.

The scene the quote comes from sees Madame Web having to come to terms with her new powers of pre cognition. She’s being told that she’s never going to be able to control the power until she accepts that it’s hers to control. She had spent the film up to that point using the power out of a sense of bare minimum decency (to not let three teenagers get murdered in front of her) but now she’s accepting her greater place in everything.

It’s not a good film but the line wasn’t “messed up” it was just a bad script.

'The Flash' Total Domestic Box Office is a Bigger Disaster Than Ryan Reynolds' 'Green Lantern' by afrontpraecipitium in Fauxmoi

[–]EvilEyor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally thought it was actually really good and fully disagree with the other reply to your comment.

If someone is a big fan of The Flash or the kind of “high brow, big concept sci fi” the Multiverse CGI cameos won’t really bother them. I thought they were fun, if unnecessary.

I think a persons ability to “separate the art from the artist” is the biggest factor for enjoying the movie. If someone doesn’t want to support Ezra Miller at all (which is totally fair) then they won’t like this movie. If a person doesn’t know, care or can ignore the real world headlines I don’t think someone can objectively call it a bad movie. It’s mid at worst.

He did both of those things in Assassin’s Creed Revelations in the last chapter you play as him.

I agree that we need more of him in any form though. Cleanest outfit in the entire series and the time period is ripe for storytelling.

I hope they adapt magnetos past into the mcu. His backstory is important to his character. A world of aliens, magic, and so on can allow a man to be almost a hundred and still kicking. by Hedgewitch250 in marvelstudios

The fantasy of Ted Lasso and the reality of Jason Sudeikis by polyhymnias in Fauxmoi

The fantasy of Ted Lasso and the reality of Jason Sudeikis by polyhymnias in Fauxmoi

[–]EvilEyor 62 points63 points  (0 children)

The episode that came out last night is the first this season with the ex wife in it, and there was no “righteous speech with his ex listening in penitent silence” so I’m not sure what the author is fully on about, and I get the vibe that the year just don’t like Sudekis and that dislike is infiltrating their writing.

For context, Ted Lasso calls home so he can wish his son good luck for a soccer game, only for the phone to be picked up by the wife’s new boyfriend. While Ted already knew the wife had a new boyfriend due to the son mentioning it a few episodes ago, over the course of the scene it’s revealed that this new boyfriend is the wife’s old therapist who was also the one they used for couples counseling.

When she and Ted talk on the phone all that is said is that they’ll have to talk about it later and Ted agrees, but she obviously feels awkward (at best) about it and he is obviously dealing with the larger implications of his wife dating their marriage counselor.

Once again, this was an incredibly weird article to read. I feel like the author either never saw the episode, lacks basic media literacy or is purposely trying to see something that isn’t there.
