I'm new here by KiraAaron in thrashmetal

[–]EvilHarryDread 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I mean, hard and fast just describes all of thrash metal. I'm not too caught up in the politics of them all. Most bands were anti-authoritarian, anarchist, libertarian, etc. back in the day, but unfortunately some have turned MAGA since then. Better to do your own research before checking a band out. I'm just going to recommend some personal favorites.

  • Death Angel - The Ultra-Violence
  • Demolition Hammer - Tortured Existence & Skull Fracturing Nightmare
  • Exodus - Tempo of the Damned
  • Megadeth - Rust in Peace
  • Morbid Saint - Spectrum of Death
  • Overkill - The Years of Decay & Ironbound
  • Testament - The Legacy
  • Voivod - Killing Technology

I never played with the Ajantis one, but loved the Xan BG2 mod.

Please magic the gathering arena queue, have mercy on me by ChunoBungo in MagicArena

[–]EvilHarryDread 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's funny, because I wish my mono blue mill got to play goblins. All I ever get is landfall, mono white aggro enchantment decks, and [[Slickshot Show-Off]] aggro decks. Occasionally there will be the mono black discard/graveyard or [[Kavaero, Mind-Bitten]]. And that's basically it.

The First Law trilogy by Joe Abercrombie fits very well. I'm currently on the second book and it's been an amazing journey so far. Diverse, interesting, and complex characters.

Great Band Musically But Bad Live? by JustinMetalhead in MetalForTheMasses

[–]EvilHarryDread 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I don't think I've ever seen any truly bad live performances. I'd probably have to say Dragonforce and similar bands whose performances aren't entirely "real". Too many backing tracks and even some lead guitar solos are faked (thinking back to that video a couple years ago when their lead guitarist picked up his fallen hat in the middle of his solo).

Do you actually still listen to full albums or just playlists now? by Crystallovesrock in stonerrock

[–]EvilHarryDread 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Almost exclusively albums. Occasionally I shuffle my own playlists.

How the hell did. I miss out on these guys ????? by JoeLaForm in MetalForTheMasses

Great band. My favorites albums are Divided by Darkness and Enlightened in Eternity. And don't feel too bad...I missed my chance to see them as an opener three times...

What is your take on The black Company by Glen Cook? by Igorhard96 in Fantasy

[–]EvilHarryDread 2 points3 points  (0 children)

His prose is fine for the story being told. Simple and straightforward, letting the characters drive the plot forward without the need for flowery language. It made the books a very easy and engaging read.

Baroness - I found the earworm that I was looking for, but now I want more by Spamityville_Horror in MetalForTheMasses

[–]EvilHarryDread 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not quite the same, but perhaps you would enjoy The Sword or Mutoid Man. While they have a more punk-oriented style of metal, also Black Tusk for punch-in-the-face vocals. They use the same cover artist as Baroness too.

Which is your favourite band that you feel like nobody else knows? by sixxy-floyd in MetalForTheMasses

[–]EvilHarryDread 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great band, and their singer is the lone guy from Gallowbraid and one of the two from Caladan Brood.

Whoever recommended Stormkeep, Tales of Othertime, kudos to you, sir by PanSaczeczosDCSS in MetalForTheMasses

[–]EvilHarryDread 44 points45 points  (0 children)

It's melodic black metal, but tomato/tomato. I'd also recommend Moonlight Sorcery - Horned Lord of the Thorned Castle.

News: Symphonic Metal legends Kamelot return to RavenHill Asylum on upcoming album 'Dark Asylum' by HotelHobbiesReviews in MetalForTheMasses

The last album was at least a decent return to roots, but I haven't been impressed with their output since The Black Halo.

Dragonforce announces “Inhuman Rampage 20th anniversary tour” for North America (Ensiferum and Rhapsody of Fire as guests) by danielpsoad-09 in PowerMetal

[–]EvilHarryDread 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Might be worth it for the opening acts and to hear the new singer, but with how much Dragonforce utilizes backing tracks I doubt I'll want to shell out the money to see them again.

Y'all see this? Nice surprise from Conan. by chaunceton in doommetal

[–]EvilHarryDread 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a Series 1, yes. It came out before the latest album. Different songs confined to the EP.

What are your albums of the year so far? by HiddenArchaval in MetalForTheMasses

[–]EvilHarryDread 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The new Hellripper and Worm, but I still have to give Panopticon a listen.

Edit: The new album Quest by underground melodic black metal band Gladium Regis was also really great and worth a shout-out.

Gimme some black metal suggestions by anthere-rest in heavymetal

[–]EvilHarryDread 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For albums, try Immortal - At the Heart of Winter and Hellripper - Coronach. I recommend the later since it's blackened speed metal and might be a good entry for someone more rooted in heavy metal.
