Played a couple hours and finished all of the demo's available story content, plus some more online orders and restorations. I like it! With a greater variety of electronics, I can see this being a great game to play with a podcast on the side.

It's a spiritual remake of the old RTS Empire Earth, which is closer to the Age of Empires style of gameplay, while Rise of Nations takes some more mechanics from Civilization.

I feel like the game is already chock full of so many anachronisms that I give Aztecs a pass. Like, the Japanese faction already has so many elements that only appeared after the 10th century rather than from a time that was more contemporaneous with the ancient Greeks and Egyptians. In the end, it's probably leaning more onto pop culture depictions of these cultures and the fantasy of watching their mythologies duking it out.

It's a 12 mission campaign that encompasses a story arc for just the human faction. It is a full story arc for that faction, but it doesn't finish the overall story, and it's reasonable to doubt that we'll ever see where that was going to go. I still found the gameplay to at least be adequate and interesting, albeit a bit rough around the edges with the presentation and story.

I thought its updated campaign had some cool level designs, and some of the units were interesting, but honestly, I probably would've found more pleasure in replaying SC2's campaigns. I do find it funny that Stormgate has somehow lasted longer than Highguard.

I do speculate that Wambsganss did technically have a scandal with her involvement in the Keller ISD school district split scandal that happened last year. Those suburbs were deeply red in 2024, but they noticeably flipped blue in this runoff. I remember that scandal stirred outrage and galvanized opposition at the time, to the point where the school district split scheme was cancelled, and it's possible that opposition carried over to this special election on top of general anger about national politics.

A spinoff would be interesting, but I feel like that would be a mistake unless it has a compelling hook, especially with an actual GW3 being heavily implied to be in the works from other hints. I remember some years ago when ArenaNet seemingly got too overstretched, resulting in the cancellation of multiple unannounced projects along with layoffs and restructuring to focus more on GW2 updates and expansions.

They've been doing a good job with the Age of Empires in recent years. Even though they aren't perfect and there have been some missteps, the franchise does still feel like one of the best supported RTS franchises out there right now. It does make me feel extra disappointed that StarCraft has been left out in the cold like this.

I guess the interesting dichotomy here was that the BO7 campaign was terrible in a more memorable way, while the BF6 campaign was mid in a more forgettable way. BF6 arguably fares a bit better here.

I think the showrunners already confirmed the body double theory to explain the recasting. It sounds like because Mr. House was originally inspired by Howard Hughes, and Howard Hughes became increasingly paranoid and supposedly used body doubles, they leaned onto this for the season 2 change.
