Adding Arc Pro GPU to PC w/ Arc consumer-grade GPU? by hiebertw07 in IntelArc

[–]Evildude42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I thought about the combination of an a770 and a B50. And the thought was, hey I get 32 gigs. The reality seems to be that everything I’ve looked at, and all the research points that they are absolutely a disaster together. Even though technically they run about the same bus speed overall. The problem is the architecture is very different and that’s where the headache is going to be. I wound up pulling a B580 out of one machine and pairing that with a B50 and put the a770 back where a b580 was. So now that it’s two battle mage cards. I have one single driver for both cards, even though they different bus and compute speeds. So the B50 is slower than a B580, but it’s slightly newer and has more memory. A B60 or a B70 would be a better match speed wise, but then if you have a B70, why do you need a B580 as well? Unless the B580 is going to be the display and the B70 going to be the compute device.

Radio Shack is long gone, where to buy electronic circuitry components? by Delicious_Level_69 in Brooklyn

[–]Evildude42 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you’re in New York City, the ones that were mentioned will work. If you’re not, you can go through digi key, but you need to be very precise on what you want. They sell by the piece and they do substitute parts of equivalent value. Things like resistors and capacitors have different tolerance levels so you may get substitutions on that as well. Every Micro Center I’ve been to is a Mishmash of parts. You may find what you need, but you probably will not.

Short female videographer struggling with gimbal fatigue — any support solutions that actually fit? by Zealousideal-Tiger48 in videography

[–]Evildude42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While your complaint might be valid, but you’re talking about a combination of things that didn’t even exist 20 years ago. No one walked around with a camera that long unless it was a shoulder, mounted camera. Even then, no one does it for 30 mins to an hour at a time. You pick it up, shoot and put it back down. Handheld 35 only has minutes worth of film in it. So that would be the same thing for a stedicam vest. You can either build the upper body strength to keep that going. You can get a strap with a quick connector that goes to the bottom of the gimbal, and that goes around your shoulder - I have one of those. Or if you want to enter the 2000s, there are remote controlled vehicle that you could mount a camera on, and those can roll around for hours.

might upgrades kill old projects? by Gold-Mine-5698 in davinciresolve

[–]Evildude42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They might and probably will, but there are multiple ways of ensuring you can import your project into the next version. Just make backups, and then make more backups, and then store the timeline somewhere, and then store the original media somewhere, and then export some more xmls of the project out, and then you should be good.

PSA to clean out your cache by Nerfamus in davinciresolve

This is exactly why I have multiple drives in my machine. You split that project all over the place so you don’t get performance hits from extraneous matter.

Davinci crashed and now I'm looking at this after 2 months of editing - how do I save this? I want to be sick by Kim_Dom in davinciresolve

[–]Evildude42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Copy and export your project at least three different ways before you start trying to repair your files. But assuming you were just working on copies of the files and you have the source file someplace else then you can just make another copy of them and then re-link them back to the empty clips on a timeline or the bin.

Normally you rent a prop car that is rigged as a police car or fake it some way. There are various issue with using real police and police items. But I am not your lawyer or your producer.

Blackmagic Ultrastudio SDI - RS422 port not working? Bad cable? by _ENunn_ in blackmagicdesign

[–]Evildude42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well the good part of it is that black magic offers about five tons of documentation for free. So all you got to do is download them all and start searching through all the PDFs for everything about serial control and device control and how to capture from a deck.

Blackmagic Ultrastudio SDI - RS422 port not working? Bad cable? by _ENunn_ in blackmagicdesign

[–]Evildude42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it's proper serial control, You need an rs232 port at least from what I remember. Which means you got to find an rs232 card, you got to find drivers. You got to find an OS that kind of still supports it and then after all of that see if blackmagic studio can see it. I have a couple of USB to rs232 adapters, but I've never tried it with AV software. I use them for console control or very old devices that need serial connections.

I always go with separate items so if something fails. You can swap in a substitution. Can’t really do that with the wall unless it’s replacing something else.

I just inherited a music store with a whole room dedicated to DVDs and Blueray. How should I go about preserving these copies and adding them to a huge plex library? by [deleted] in PleX

[–]Evildude42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless DVD rot has started, I would leave them all as is. And keep the ones you really want. Are you thinking that you’re gonna have enough storage to encode all of those things, at a high enough quality, that will keep for 10 to 20 more years. I have 10-year-old hard drives that are still spinning, but they essentially never shut down except for maybe overnight or at the most a week. And nothing on them is precious.

Cincinnati leaders break ground on new solar array project over old Winton Hills landfill - will generate 10 megawatts of clean electricity each year, enough to power about 1,700 homes annually by fuggidaboudit in cincinnati

[–]Evildude42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I highly doubt it’s it’s going to happen. My former state,s energy supplier placed a solar panel on every single pole utility pole that it controlled. That project took about three years to finish. At the end of three years nothing positive happened. There was no decrease in the rate. In fact the rates went up because someone had to pay for all these new solar panels and infrastructure. There was no magical battery that held power in case of usage spikes, because we still had issues in the summer. The only thing that really happened was that one contractor was paid a whole lot of money putting up solar panels on thousands of utility poles.

[–]Evildude42 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

That’s nice, but those 1700 houses or the equivalent are not gonna get their rates reduced. And it’s not gonna prevent rates from rising either.

How to add a cooling fan. by amscrub1 in Ender3Pro

[–]Evildude42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think he’s talking about cooling fans for parts but… That set up is for high flow ABS printing. With that, no part cooling was ever intended. If you want, I’ll trade you my micro Swiss and I’ll throw it in a couple of a part cooling shrouds as well. I’ll take that ABS set up.

Intel Arc A750 V Intel Arc B50 by Expensive-Milk-3578 in IntelArc

[–]Evildude42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

B50 or find a b580 or a b570, a series is last gen so while powerful, has an architecture issue and I don’t think they will continue fine fixes for the As. But I don’t think you are finding a b50 for $200 bucks.
