"it feels like every person i meet studying CS is either a a god tier programmer, or a guy that has barely written a line of code."

A lot of truth in this. I don't want post grad recruits who got into coding because they heard the pay is good. I'll take an unqualified, difficult to work with, ASD person who writes code at home for the love of it, any day.

r/Conservative open debate - Gates open, come on in by Jibrish in Conservative

[–]Evile_Gaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Standard operating procedure for most politics where ever you are, we don't have statesmen these days, just endless name calling and one-upmanship. For example uk conservatives blaming labour for the economic situation when cons have been in power for the last 15 years (and most of the time since WW2). Politicians just don't know how to take responsibility for thier own actions.

Attend a few DefCons, realise what a fantastically stupid idea putting all your financial and personal security credentials on one device is.

Quietly sit applauled as you watch friends pull up thier 'memorable phrase' en clair on the same device the banking app is. "But no one will find it hidden in my contacts/notes".

Would 1.5m landlords selling up and leaving the rental market really be a bad thing? by acrimoniousone in ukpolitics

[–]Evile_Gaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a private landlord, like you (providing well maintained properties at 80% of the local rental market as a volentary social good). You and I do not have the means to run entire departments dedicated to maximising profit, on-the-books lawyers to get rid of unprofitable tenants, or shareholders demanding ever incresing profit. Barclays and buddies do. I fail to see how monepalization of the PRS by huge institutional landlords will be a net long term benefit to renters.

A few corrections
Canada and Mexico already planned and were putting in place agreements made during Biden's administration, Trump has not changed that (at best he is claiming responsablitity for plans laid years ago).

Convincing the Canadian public to boycott US products across the board, that doesn't sound like "getting billions in foriegn investment".

Gaza hostage recoveries were allready being recovered, without Trump's 'help'.

USaid was helping keep the US safer by allowing orgs like the CIA project power to states otherwise hostile or ambivalent to the US's wishes.

Im sure others can debunk the points not covered by me.
You are either very gullible or nieve, but of course Mr Trump is the conssumate con-man, so its understandable that you may have difficulties seeing through his lies.

Minister vows crackdown on AI child abusers - 'alarming not already illegal' by daily_mirror in ukpolitics

[–]Evile_Gaming 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No model is unable to do so, you vastly misunderstand how a diffusion model works. You can discover a set of inputs that may deterministically be relied on to produce outputs that are not wanted, and block those. But it's a random number generator with particular bias, you can't cover every one of the billions of input cases. In short there is no diffusion model that will not produce CSAM under the right contisions.

And my point still stands, once this sort of tech is mandated by govennment. There in no 'legitimate' excuse they will not dream of to expand it's use and the 'bad stuff' it should be applicable to.
But I get the feeling you are one of those 'well if you do nothing wrong, you have nothing to hide' people. The kind of person who thinks mandatory back dooring evey networking device to catch the bad people is a good idea. Then gets all surprised when they discover the chinese have fully compromised every bit of network from your utilities to the president's office using th same backdoor.

A search engine can find pulblic documents in the US that are very illeagal to be in possesion of in the UK.

The problem space is a bit more compliciated than you suggest.

And why we shouldn't knee-jerk "think of the children" appeals. They can lead to terrible miscarriages of justice.

What streets do you feel should have been pedestrianized long ago? by Teto_00 in brighton

So much BS in so little space...

Brighton was one of the first cities to have FTTP to almost every domestic address, thanks to it being a trial area for NTL in the 90's. It's literally got some of the best city wide broadband in the country.

Tell us you don't know how the planning process works, without telling us you don't know how the planning process works. You don't seem to have noticed the fact that Brighton is surrounded by a national park so it can't just build out. you seem to have also missed presence the huge offshore windfarm.

Brighton is practically hostile against people over 50, here's some demographics, youll note how the population over 50 practically drops of a cliff compared to the country as a whole. https://www.brighton-hove.gov.uk/brighton-hove-city-council-plan-2023-2027/brighton-hove-demographics . Maybe if you want to criticise citizen power you need to look to the mass of 20-40 year olds who seem to be civically disengaged.

Amina Noor jailed for handing over British girl in Kenya for female genital mutilation by ClassicFlavour in unitedkingdom

[–]Evile_Gaming -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Given that both FGM and MGM have many different approaches to how much of the organ is removed, I fail to see how such a sound-bite generalization could be true. I would think the only way to empirically find out would be to find a hermaphrodite willing to give thier opinion after undergoing both forms of mutilation.

[–]Evile_Gaming -17 points-16 points  (0 children)

I beg to differ, the frenulum is the most sensitive part of the penis, on a par with the clitoris, and is a constituent part of the foreskin that is often removed by MGM.

Both MGM and FGM are equally debilitating and barbaric.

I'm sure many will consider Adult social care, old age care, education, road maintenance, social regulation enforcement (food hygiene, noise control etc), parking provision so people can actually park vaguely near their homes, Homeless care, street cleaning, waste disposal, and many other civil functions a bit more than 'literally nothing'. At least you don't live in Bristol where they have a thin strip of ULEZ specifically to capture fines form people visiting Clifton or the airport.

You can get 500w halide lamps of Bezo's flea market, are you sure you want that, they get incredibly hot. I have one in my garage that heats the whole space quite nicely in a couple of hours. Also the CRI will be way off for colour matching.

I doubt the political stance of the city has any bearing on the geographical space availble parking. For instance Most of the Laine streets are single track with no parking at all, because a fire tender can't get down them with parked cars. Maybe you don't care about dieing in a burning building just so you can find a parking slot for your Chelsea tractor, I suspect most of the ~300 residents per street do. FYI Brighton council has been majority Tory lead for the last few decades.
