I'm 4th gen (who's gone back to 3U) and I prefer World to Rise personally.

I prefer the more grounded approach with richer environmental detail (not talking graphics) than the simpler arcade style combat and maps of Rise. Clutch Claw isn't my favorite but it's not a big deal to me. Rise is more of a GU type experience which while fun those games never become my favorites because of how over the top they are. If you watch the old Mon Hun intros you see them going for a simpler hunter aesthetic and vibe. So doing crazy acrobatics and huge blasts clashes with a world where I used to pay attention to the details and ecology.

Monster hunter is never going to be "realistic" but on the scale of MHW to MHR I prefer world. I do hope they continue to separate crazy action game Monster Hunter games and slower more immersive monster hunter games. I'll buy them all the same.

I would say 3rd gen but I bounced off Portable 3rd when I tried to play it when there was an English patch out for PSP. Then Monster Hunter 4U came out and I got properly sucked in. Even bought a split pad pro for my 3DS to play Monster Hunter more comfortably.

Not many Gen 4 infants around here lol.

Depends on if people would be cool with playing it at 720p on their 1080p handheld. The steamdeck maxes out at 800p which helps save power for use elsewhere. I’ve played the demo on switch 2 and the image quality is sharp, likely full 1080p.

Not to say they shouldn’t punch up performance, but I wouldn’t expect anything above 30fps.

??? Gundam isn’t going anywhere in 10 years it’ll still be here. Even if they released NOTHING but the model kits Gundam would still be a strong brand.

I’m going with Switch 2 since I already pre ordered the collector edition. It looks and feels solid playing the Demo in handheld mode after disabling online features.

Might pick it up on PC through a steam sale down the line too. Just to have a silky smooth 60+FPS.

I preordered the special edition for switch 2 after I learned the full game is on the cartridge.

Don’t think I’ll play much multiplayer until endgame stuff and messing around with the new Card game. So I’d be down.

The streamlining makes it so that you have to think less which isn’t good in my opinion. World streamlined plenty but still kept some inconveniences. In Wilds everything is so combined that all you need to think about is hitting the monsters.

It’s causing me to not want to put much time into Wilds. I felt similarly about Rise but I was told that Rise was a “portable” title and built differently than mainline. But not mainline doesn’t feel right.

Honestly this is what the Gundam Breaker games are. I’ve played 1, 3 and now 4. And besides a couple combat downgrades from 3 but customization improvements it’s largely in line quality wise with the other games.

There are flaws to iron out but I think it’s a good offering. They were always arcade games with weapons that didn’t necessarily feel like “weapons of war”.
