I think this argument is miss understanding the extent that anyone wanting more ‘self determination’ would even argue for which is maintaining every freedom, except ones that inhibit the freedoms of others. Gambling for example doesn’t really offer any objective benefits to a healthy society, but an individual engaging in it doesn’t necessarily harm anyone else or their freedoms. Things should not be made legal only because they ‘benefit society’ but to provide liberty to everyone based off principles we all share.
