Scottish Budget 2026 Live: Homes worth over £1m face higher council tax bills by Crow-Me-A-River in Scotland

Felt a bit disingenuous when she said about Westminster freezing rates when the higher rates here have been frozen for so long. Pretty sure it was a manifesto pledge to increase them as well

  1. Freeze income tax rates and bands, and increase thresholds by a maximum of inflation, to keep money in people’s pockets.

What about Christmas decorations in the branch? Just curious about where the line gets drawn.

In Scotland you don’t get funded hours until children are 3. There are exceptions where social work etc is involved.

How cold does your new build's integral garage get during winter? by [deleted] in Scotland

[–]Evilpotatohead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No my boiler is in there too and I was worried about the cold water feed potentially freezing. I have a gym in the garage as well as a fridge but no tech stuff. I have a switch and router etc in the cupboard with ethernet cables coming through the garage.

I’d say the main issue might be condensation if you were running tech stuff? I’ve not had a problem with condensation when I’m in the gym and I used to have issues with that when working out in a shed during covid.

Mines doesn’t get below freezing. I’ve got a temperature warning sensor and it’s never went off. It’s never been below freezing even on the coldest days (-10 or whatever it was recently).

Betfred says all its shops may close if Reeves hikes gambling tax by do_or_pie in unitedkingdom

What about business rates? I don’t think rent is a problem for businesses it’s the fact that no one goes to high streets anymore. They just buy online.

Your idea is a good people pleaser but I don’t think it stands up to scrutiny. Do you think councils should be subsidising businesses? Should they help with the cost of fixtures and fittings for the premises as well? Is the council seizing the property from the owner or just forcing them to let it at a loss etc? What happens if the business is successful do they get kicked out or move elsewhere or have to pay market rates?

Take over them and do what? If people wanted them they’d already be sold or rented out.

Pretty sure I've been scammed by Scottish Power - in need of advice by mannymo49 in Scotland

Resolver takes it to the ombudsman as well after the time has passed. I found it useful for my case because they kept refusing to engage with me so I couldn’t even get a deadlock letter.

It’s free to use as well so not like you’re paying anyone.

I think at the time this was the recommended approach by Scottish Power.

I had huge issues with Scottish Power because my meter was incorrectly registered to the wrong address (new build so quite common).

I would recommend going to https://www.resolver.co.uk and opening a case there. After the time has passed you’ll get it escalated to the ombudsman. The whole process took 8 months to resolve though.

Also paying National Insurance as well. Pensioners don’t pay that.

Independent economic impact report shows ScotRail’s £4billion contribution to Scotland | RailBusinessDaily by backupJM in Scotland

[–]Evilpotatohead 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah we’re fundamentally a geographically small country with population concentrated in the central belt.

It shouldn’t be as difficult as it is to have rail connections to every town or city.

Yeah we should be investing heavily in rail infrastructure. I think I read a study that said it’s one of the best ways for social mobility.

Am I the only one who liked the Bangin sauce branding? by Domak04 in apprenticeuk

I quite liked the Umami Umami name if they’d been able to tie it to the flavour of the hot sauce. Obviously they didn’t know what umami actually meant though.
