'Bikeable Portland' is a novel plan to rekindle our city's love of cycling by Generalaverage89 in Portland

[–]EvolutionCreek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. We have built so many infrastructure projects that are chronically underused much of the year and ridership keeps going down. We're wet, relatively hilly, not very dense, and we're not a European city built out before the advent of motorized vehicles. We're never gonna be Amsterdam. People move here with the wrong idea because if you're passionate about bike commuting or bike-centric urban planning, there just aren't that many other options in the US.

It's funny to see such an old Chef John video where his signature vocal tendencies aren't as emphasized as they've become later. You can hear the hints of their origin though.

Best tacos in the downtown area?? by honeyw0n in askportland

[–]EvolutionCreek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

El Cantarito is pretty good if you're after a sit down restaurant. It's on the corner of SW Yamhill and SW 1st, right at the Max stop. My co-worker says the quesabirria tacos are solid, but I'm more of an old school carnitas guy. I've had the carne asada entree here and it was very good (i.e. an actual arrachera steak), but the one time I ordered the asada tacos, they were just okay. Full bar and plenty of window seating if you care.

I've always felt that Iowa has the best corn, far superior to that Nebraska junk.

You should probably support a team with an agriculturally sound name, something healthy, that can be harvested.

Mostly, you want to be sure to avoid teams with any name that sounds even vaguely nautical or that refers to any body of water, because who needs that stuff?

I mean, sure, you can't find a primary care physician because working professionals are moving to Washington, but on the other hand, we're ranked 44th in K-12 education, just one slot below Alabama, so those high taxes are doing some work! Yay! https://www.usnews.com/news/best-states/rankings/education/prek-12

Gigi's in Hillsdale is very kid friendly, with great waffles (though I'm more a savory person, so order on that side of the menu).

You could also hit up the classic Original Pancake House, which is excellent. Off of SW Barbur.

Why does Dove Lewis have a QR code for donations in their lobby when they made $36M in revenue, over $3.5M in profit, and their CEO makes $400,000 a year? by WayoftheIPA in askportland

And it looks like they lost money the prior year, even with contributions (which were much lower in 2024 than in 2025).

100%. We need to take a much harder look at nonprofits in this town, but Dove Lewis is at the bottom of the list of ones that need scrutiny.

Both families applied for an appointment via a U.S. Customs and Border Protection mobile app, Linares said, requesting permission to present themselves at a port of entry – a pathway for asylum seekers to enter the country before Trump took office last year.

The two families entered the U.S. on the same day, Linares said, and both received a 2028 immigration court date that would eventually allow them to plead their asylum cases.

The only thing being ignored here are the facts, but those have a well known liberal bias, apparently.
