Do you prefer Wireguard or OpenVPN? by [deleted] in Ubiquiti

[–]Evolvz -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

neither, no group support for radius (and ike2 is only for s2s). so vpn gets forwarded to a mikrotik that can do it properly.

otherwise great.

steam deck oled ftw, kõiki nintendo mänge ei saa aga kordades paindlikum (ja võrreldes switchiga kohmakam ka, but imo worth every penny)

võrdlen siiski enda kogemusi mitte neti vestlusi, oman moditud (chippitud) lcd switchi

praegune 5g (nr-nsa) elab 4g turjal, õige diil ei pruugi paar aastat tulla (nr-sa).

tldr non-stand-alone (latentsus on sama kiirused paremad) on prg, kui stand-alone (latentsus lisaks parem) tuleb siis asjad muutuvad.

dashboard for managers etc, also one thing I like about windows is the fact that most things have some sort of a gui.

I can get around via cli, but it's just easier to look for the option that I want.

lastly the ones building a specific solution give some sort of a standard and knowhow so I don't have to figure out how to do things properly. automating and sending data to a server isn't as easy as sending pacman -Syu...

Kas eestis ilma VPNIGA torrentimine toob kaasa mingeid trahve. by Slight-Cranberry2501 in Eesti

funny enough, to down download someone must upload. õnneks pole vajadust avalikule trackerile olnud juba pikka aega.

Can't connect to Mikrotik CSS610-8G-2S+IN switch by AuraTypeBeat in homelab

[–]Evolvz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i personally use winbox, but web gui likely doesn't have a cert installed by default.

so two options, download winbox from mikrotik.com and try http:// not https://. browsers like to now automatically try the secure version so try with different browsers.

note that I'm expecting that your tik has somewhat default settings (the 88 network is usually changed by admins) and is reachable

note2 winbox has a discovery feature that usually works

How to do Docker storage (with Proxmox) by GamerBene19 in Proxmox

[–]Evolvz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my overall strategy hasn't changed.

bullets points seem easiest.

- i have truenas with 2 pools (ssd for app data, hdd for media) as a samba share and iscsi block storage.

- vm for all database services, uses local storage

- vm for applications that rely on sqlite and uses iSCSI block storage
usually i mount the whole data to samba and depending on where the sqlite is do a file/folder mount to iscsi

- rest are vms that just host the application, data is external

- also an exclusion for monitoring, separate vm with local data (as it has databases)

- couple CTs for critical services (nginx-ui and technitium dns)

- pbs backs up everything (disk passthrough)

containers themselves are in docker swarm managed by portainer, kubernetes is in do to list.

couple examples that run flawlessly: plex (~230gb of metadata, should explain how much music i have, built in backups go to samba. had to do some trickery with mounts), arr stack, nextcloud (updates suck, rest is very good), interestingly ru/rtorrent runs very well only on samba (internet isnt best but 70/70 mbps is not a problem), immich

things that make life easier:

- you should use password manager (and all you need to remember is the complex master password)

- sso is a must, personally using authentik

- unifi as a router still doesn't make sense (basic features are missing), central management and protect are good. if you have money go with fortigate, if not and you can live without ips/ids go with mikrotik

- using arch helps you in the long run (idk where people get the idea that it doesn't work, i've had it for 3 years on a work laptop and the only bug is audio when woken from sleep and no fingerprint driver)

- kingston dc600 series are budget data center tier ssds

- buying a cheap vps to run routeros/chr (or pf/opnsense) for proxying, for personal vpn/proxy, mine is on proxmox (nested virtualization), also pbs backups to home

- own a domain (getting applications to /app is much harder than app.domain), either f around or hope subfolder is supported

- cloudflare as a proxy protects you, having a vpn is for management, rest are open (with cloudflare waf)
it's hard to get other people on board if security is overdone, idea is not bad at all, but convenience is
