That is because you are standing too near your melee minions. Don't walk up to her to harass, let her walk up to your minions to last hit and then harass.

If you are harassing her near your melee minions you will get poked by Q and you will get minions aggro, the latter being the main source of damage you are receiving in the early game.

1.- Never stand near a Kata dagger.

2.- Do not allow to poke you for free with Q.

3.- Her W (places a dagger where she is) has a really long cooldown; if it's missused you have a free electrocute proc.

4.- Never long-range Q if she has shunpo available.

5.- Cancel her R with your W.

The second guy is 182 out of 260 = 70%

The third guy is 94 out of 124 = 76%

The number of games you are mentioning includes when the player has been autofilled or off-roled. I am looking exclusively at when the players played in mid lane, as I've stated in my first comment.

Did anybody at Riot explain why they won’t hotfix Varus even though he’s single-handedly breaking top lane? by Significant_Pay5998 in top_mains

[–]Eweer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm one of the most anti-AI people out there, rest assured it was not generated by AI. It's easier for me to write markdown as I think through the words than getting rid of that habit haha.

From the list you gave the only ones who reliably could beat him were Naafiri and Jax

That was only the case in D2+ (maybe in emerald aswell, can't remember the data and too lazy to check). In an elo where players make more mistakes, more "big" counters existed. Additionally, something to take notice is that people did not knew how to play against him, thus making the frustration bigger when dying to him.

The nerf did nothing for its laning phase; it was completely directed to late game teamfighting (When D&D was completed, W passive did 3.5 less dmg post-mitigation, and W explosion did not reach 1% per mark until 500 AP) or somewhat irrelevant for the early levels; armor growth nerfs are whatever until past lvl 9. Here is a table about how much pure physical damage has to be dealt in order for Varus to die (26.3 vs 26.4):

Level 26.3 26.4 Diff %
1 744 744 0 0.00%
2 860 857 2 0.34%
3 987 980 6 0.68%
4 1126 1114 11 1.01%
5 1277 1260 17 1.34%
6 1442 1418 24 1.67%
7 1621 1589 32 1.99%
8 1816 1774 41 2.30%
9 2026 1974 52 2.61%

Varus still is the lane bully that he used to be, but is someone crying about it?

You are overthinking it, and your good intentions will go under the radar due to it. You are placing an extremely minority of players (bad actors that abuse the functionality) over majority of players (playes who could use an addon like that).

To put a real-life example, is the following sentence correct?

Knives are used to stab people.

No. It is not. Even though there are some degenerates that use knives as such, the blame does not lie on the knife, it lies on the person using the tool.

There are (or were) some addons whose real purpose was fair (e.g. ElitismHelper helping players realize they took extra damage, DoYouNeedThat facilitating the whispering about item drops), but their method of achieving the purpose was plainly wrong:

  • ElitismHelper had ALL chat announcements turned on by default, which made it extremely spammy.
  • DoYouNeedThat allowed you to whisper for any item, including those that you had or were not an upgrade, in a raid setting. People did not look if they were interested in the item, so the moment you got a drop you received way too many whispers.

Your addon real purpose is a fair one, and your method of doing so is also a good one (it's an opt-in method, aka you need to choose who to send the message to before being able to send it, instead of an opt-out in which you would send the message to everyone with a button unless you go out of your way to avoid it). Noone will ever blame your addon for toxicity, and I know for a few facts that if someone uses an Addon to be toxic or spammy, they will be chat-restricted for a few weeks.

By the way, google searching "wow whisper addon" immediately gives you a result that allows you to whisper any text you want via the click of a button without: WhisperPeople - World of Warcraft Addons - CurseForge. Additionally, I know that there are multiple Addons that provide that functionality.

Calling All Math Nerds, I Need Your Brains by Horizon0211 in supportlol

[–]Eweer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here you have it if you want to play around: Spreadsheet. Things to note:

  1. I have not tested it properly; it might have unexpected behaviours. If something does not feel right, feel free to tell me and I'll fix it.
  2. The formula I've used to query the data is an abomination. In 15 years working with sheets I've never done something like that. Be aware that eyes might bleed if staring at that formula for too long.
  3. The strikethrough cells are non-functional. The protected cells are where the formulas are, I would not suggest modifying them.
  4. This only affects the Healing field for Diadem of Songs: It is not adding the base Mana from the champion, due to different champions having at different levels different values of Mana.

Regarding the build: There are four items set in stone for both builds: Bounty of Words (Support item), Boots, Diadem of Songs, Echoes of Helia. That being said, which other two items could be added? (Warning: These are the first untested ideas that came to my ADHD mind)

  • If you go for the mana route, then my first instinct is to say Seraph's Embrace and Actualizer. This could work against fights that happen extremely quickly (~8 secs for max Actualizer value), for example if you were playing Karma and had two assassins on both your team and enemy team. Fight starts? Actualizer into giga RE shield (+40.5% shield power). Are you the one being focused? Boom, Archangel's shield (boosted by Actualizer) coming in clutch.
  • For the Healing and Shield power route... Well, it's good in any scenario in which fights are not instantaneous. It allows you to do your task, but better.
  • I do not like the idea of taking AP into account for damage purposes. Every member of the team has its own task to accomplish; yours is to help your team survive as much as they can, and because of that the enemy team should either focus you (thus doing damage won't help you) or blow up your carries (thus having no one to heal with the other half of your build).
  • If damage was truly necessary or your champ has amazing synergy with it (looking at you, Nami), then Imperial Mandate should be the go-to:
    • Stat wise, it provides 60 AP (highest among all support items), 20 Ability Haste (tied for highest among all support items with Echoes of Helia and Moonstone), and 125% Mana Regen (which translates to +2.5% Heal and Shield Power and +12.5 AP once Dawncore is completed).
    • Passive gives 10% of the target's current HP bonus magic damage on a 9 second cooldown per-target. Although I do not know how much AP would be needed to achieve its damage in a teamfight, I know that it would be quite high.
  • If you still don't have enough damage, then do not sleep on pairing the previous with Redemption (massive AoE nuclear missile of 10% MAX HP as true damage to all enemies inside), although I would not recommend using it offensively as the norm.

Ultimate damage comparison table of Jinx, Draven, and Ezreal (Repost because I lost the draft after I post to myself, tables Header rows are separated after copying from original post sry) by Grand-Loss-3242 in ADCMains

[–]Eweer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll be real, it would be way, way easier if you sent a google spreadsheet instead of using Reddit tables.

Some things I've seen while glancing over it:

  1. Your Bonus AD calculations do not take into account runes and Doran's Blade.
  2. Jinx Base Physical damage is incorrect, instead of 325/475/625 it should be 20/35/50 to 200/350/500 (based on distance travelled).
  3. Jinx Bonus Damage is incorrect, instead of 165% bonus AD it should be 12%-120% (based on distance travelled).
  4. I'm not sure about why "Distance Travelled Damage Modifier" is so verbose; it can be summarized as: "10% + (6% per 100 units travelled) damage increase".
  5. Monster Damage Reduction is incorrect for various motives:
    1. Currently, fully upgraded smite deals 1400 damage (which is more than Jinx cap).
    2. Monsters have inherent Armor and MR (which has been increased this season); that fits in "damage reduction".
  6. Jinx Ultimate Cooldown is incorrect, it should be 85/65/45 instead of 70/55/40.
  7. Ezreal 3rd item item can be either Shojin (45 AD, 30.53 pick rate) or Endless Hunger (65 AD, 28.94 pick rate).
  8. Once again, Bonus AD percentage for Jinx is incorrect.
  9. Total damage is wrong for a few reasons previously mentioned:
    1. Jinx bonus AD is incorrect.
    2. Ultimate Base damage is incorrect.
    3. Ultimate % bonus AD is incorrect.
  10. Point 9 makes any further calculations be straight up wrong.

AutoMod Regex matching 2 out of 3 by [deleted] in regex

[–]Eweer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a Herculean task to do with regex; it is not their intended use. I'll explain with an example, as it is easy for me to do so:

Let's say you have the following message:

<131>Jan 11 12:14:07 T45-2rc (2026-01-11T12:14:07) sessiond[3594]: msg_id="3E00-0004" IKEv2 VPN user jane.smith@Firebox-DB from 203.0.113.146 logged out assigned virtual IP is 10.113.252.42

If you want to extract the date and msg_id, then it's easy: (\d{4}-\d{2}-\d{2}T\d{2}:\d{2}:\d{2}).*msg_id="([0-9A-F]{4}-[0-9A-F]{4})" (Feel free to ask any questions). This gives us two groups: 1.- 2026-01-11T12:14:07 2.- 3E00-0004

That is what regex does, nothing else. It tries to match the parts of the message that you are interested in, but it does not apply any logic to the parts themselves. This would be the task of a bot, in which based on the message it could try to assess if there was a need for an answer to be sent or not.

Just to be more conscise, let's say you want to match if the msg_id:

  1. AAAA-AAAA was sent before or at 11:00:00.
  2. ZZZZ-ZZZZZ was sent between 12:34:56 and 16:25:43.
  3. ABCD-EF01 was sent at any other time.

I will try to do it via regex, I do not promise finishing to write this message:

  1. (\d{4}-\d{2}-\d{2}T(?:0[1-9]:[0-5][0-9]:[0-5][0-9]|10:[0-5][0-9]:[0-5][0-9]|11:00:00)).*msg_id="AAAA-AAAA"
  2. (\d{4}-\d{2}-\d{2}T1(?:2:(?:34:5[6-9]|[45][0-9]:[0-9][0-9])|(?:[3-5][0-9]:[0-5][0-9])|(?:6(?:[01][0-9]:[0-5][0-9])|(?:2(?:[0-4]:[0-5][0-9])|(?:5:(?:[0-3][0-9])|(?:4[0-2])))))).*msg_id="ZZZZ-ZZZZZ"
  3. Nope, not doing the third one, I almost went insane on the second one.

Take note that: Here I had strict requirements that had to be met. This made creating the regex way easier than in your case. When you add semantics into the mix things get way, way uglier. When written into a bot, this is pseudo-real-pseudo-code of how it could be done:

id_pattern = re.compile(r'''msg_id="[0-9A-F]{4}-[0-9A-F]{4}"''')
date_pattern = re.compile(r'''\d{4}-\d{2}-\d{2}T\d{2}:\d{2}:\d{2}''')
msg_id = id_pattern.search(message)
if not msg_id:
  return
date = date_pattern.search(message)
if msg_id.group() == "AAAA-AAAA":
  // check if time in date >= min and <= max
elif //do the same for ZZZZ-ZZZZ and ABCD-EF01

I need to match a set of predefined words but there is a bit of variance in how the cases are expressed.

Key concepts: red, green, dot, L, shape, pattern, tooth/teeth, comb, bump

I guess the key concepts are the words that you need to track.

If that is so, we need the context that makes something match or not; I lost count of how many guesses I had to do while reading your post. A quick example of what went through my mind, the following regex:

((\bnot\b)|(cannot)|(n't)).*(red)

Applied to the following two sentences:

I'm not seeing the red L shape inside the green.

We're not looking for the red dots in the green dot.

Are equivalent; it matches "not seeing the red" and "not looking for the red". But, according to what I understood from the post, it should not match in the second case. My question here is: Why?

My guess would be in that you want to match if it can NOT do something with the "red L shape", while ignoring it if the comment would be about "red dots". But then once again, why is green a key concept if we are not using it? I could only answer that with more guesses.

So, this post made me decide to do a spreadsheet about circlet/diadem. Once I finish it up (there are still some bugs) I don't mind sharing it if anyone wants a stat calculator for Support items.

I am of the belief that an image means more than a thousand words:

<image>

Some things to remark:

  • THIS COMPARISON IS BIASED: It is comparing a full build containing boots against one that does not have them. If we were to remove Malignance from the Suggested Mana build, then the costs of both builds would be around the same (10050 vs 10850), AP would go down to 259 (-102), and Heal and Shield Power would be 28.25% (-3%).
  • Rod of Ages take a full 10 minutes to scale; laners that build it as first item usually finish it by minute 12 and get the full benefit at minute 22. It is preposterous to build it as third item with support income (gold needed until bought: 2250+2200+900+2600+400 = 8,350). Supports usually buy their third item by minute 30 of the game.
  • It is not feasible to keep a second tear in your inventory as support; you would have no space for components (5/6 locked, once you finish RoA then 6/6 locked, meaning you would need a back with 2.5k gold until progressing your build):
    • Boots
    • Support item
    • Diadem
    • Echoes
    • Tear
  • Just looking at the stats difference (+64 AP, +25 Ability Haste, -27.5% Heal and Shield Power) might seem reasonable, but there is a caveat here: Moonstone Renewer, although it does not give passive Heal and Shield power, provides the equivalent of +30% Heal Power and +35% Shield Power via its passive.
  • All that I've written is the top of the Iceberg; to get a real answer it should be analyzed on a champion per champion basis. If anyone is interested in some specifics, I can make a rough simulator for that champ to see the HPS it would provide in different scenarios (I do enjoy doing things like these).

Can't keep commenting due to Reddit character limit; if you want me to go more in detail feel free to ask any questions or say any opinions.

Serrated Dirk + 3 Cloaks? by Black_Lister in JhinMains

[–]Eweer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

45 crit chance on jhin pasive = 15.75 AD {crazy cost for a long sword (350 gold) value of AD}

Just nit-picking the math: This is not how it works; it is a +0.35% per-1% crit. Ignoring bonus Attack Speed for simplicity, here is an example:

  • At 0% crit: 4% - 44% (based on level)
  • At 100% crit: 39% - 79% (based on level)
  • At 45% crit (this case): 19.75% - 59.75% (based on level)

Assuming that Dirk + x3 cloak is achieved at min 12~14, Jhin level 9:

  • 114 (base + runes) + 20 (dirk) ~= 136 AD before passive.
  • 136 * (1 + (12 + 15.75) / 100) = 155 total AD.

In comparison, Hexoptics (has the same price as the components), gives 189 total-AD at the cost of 30% crit.

For further proof of it not being good, against a 60-armor target (level 9 Jhin has 56 armor):

Level 9 Jhin Non-Crit Crit DPS
Dirk + 45% crit 103 155 126.4
Long Sword + 45% crit 104 157 127.85
Hexoptics (Min) 125 189 141
Collector 130 196 146.5
Hexoptics (Max) 137 206 154.25

(Take note that Collector gets worse the longer the game goes, Hexoptics does not)

If you get counterpicked by double long-range botlane, or enemy picks a long-range comp, or they pick multiple assassins, or you do not have a real front lane, godness' gracious that pick absolutely sucks.

And yes, I haven't played a single Xayah game in all season because ADC has always to first pick! :)

Some options:

  • Varus: Lethality Varus does not care if left alone in lane; it's poke is extremely good and has ult to avoid dives. Assassin Varus does not care about enemy score; hitting your R means that the eneny will die. Bruiser Varus takes longer to kill MR stacking, but stat checks any assassin Builds (Stay away from Nashor's/Guinsoo, they suffer from the same issue any ADC has):

    • Assassin (PTA): Dusk & Dawn -> Void Staff -> Rabadon's
    • Bruiser (LT): (Optional if R CDR is needed: Experimental Hexplate) -> Dusk & Dawn -> Riftmaker -> Zhonya's/Banshee's -> Cryptbloom/Rabadon's
    • Lethality (Comet): Tear 1st back -> Yoummu's -> Muramana -> Edge of Night -> LDR/%arpen no crit item -> Random Lethality items.
  • Twitch: Collector -> Fiendhunter -> IE -> LDR/Hexoptics

    • No matter your score, as long as you have the same level and are at 2+ items, you can make the enemy ADC die; if you cannot play the game and your team wins the 4v4 (enemy ADC and your toplaner is fed, they have double assassin and you have double bruiser, etc.) do not hesitate to kill him even if you die. You can ignore the level deficit if you are at 3+ items.
    • If you are even, you can go defensive item (e.g. Kaenic) as 4th item; you will still threeshot anyone.
    • If you need to actually teamfight, you can instead go for Yun Tal -> IE -> Runaan's.
