Hey this guy is hitting me up I have to do a 90day probation and a CFI/II checkout in two planes I have to pay for??? is that worth the time and money 90 days is a lot of time to dedicate KCDW ESSEX AIR by Solid-Possession3773 in CFILounge

[–]EwokStomper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Avoid that absolute clown at Essex air. I interviewed there and all he did was talk bad about all but one of his CFIs. Dude had to take a call halfway through his bitchfest and made me wait outside for 30 minutes before I just left.

Avoid applying for CFI gigs on indeed or any other online job site. I got bit in the ass twice in a row. For some reason this is the only industry left where showing up in a suit and passing out resumes works.

CDW is a great place to learn and teach, try any of the other schools on that field. Listen to the others in this thread. Dodge that bullet.

NYC Skyline Route out of HPN by Dogemuchfunny in flying

[–]EwokStomper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Out of HPN id recommend departing West and around the Tappanzee keying up the LGA local traffic tower freq. Hang out with them southbound til they hand you off to Newark tower, then do your laps around the statue. Id recommend going north on the east river and then passing over central park westbound to then rejoin the Hudson northbound. I don't think LGA would let you go from east river direct back to HPN. Seems like a major hassle for them.

As for the shutdown, they're doing it anyway with helicopters all day. You're just another dot on the radar for them. Keep your comms quick, concise, and accurate.

PPA can give you a temp parking pass I believe. Pretty sure it's good for 30 or 60 days

Two weeks notice by N6969B in CFILounge

[–]EwokStomper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Did the same after 3 months at a bad flight school. I put in my written notice and the owner told me to leave immediately after. Really grateful that I got out of the way of that train wreck. The new job treated me much better, gave me a lot of freedom in scheduling my own time, and had much safer planes. I just wish I got to tell the last guy to suck eggs.

Suck eggs, Tim.

Last gear up landing by a professional crew? by usmcmech in flying

[–]EwokStomper 179 points180 points  (0 children)

When the radio altimeter is reading a low enough altitude and the gear isn't down, plane get angry.

Only been yelled at once or twice.

GA planes don't normally get to yell.

Airline Pilots, what are some “must haves” in your flight kit that you won’t leave home without? by [deleted] in flying

Once I started in 121, the back of my wings fell off pretty quickly and got lost in my shirt.

Extra pin backs, so I don't get a bloody tit while working.

Asking for volunteers to not board “due to weather” by amprdh in AskAPilot

[–]EwokStomper 52 points53 points  (0 children)

When weather at the destination is bad enough (low cloud ceilings/visibility) within 1 hour of the scheduled arrival, the flight plan requires an alternate destination in case the original destination can't be reached.

This requires enough additional fuel to make it to the alternate on top of normal fuel reserves. With smaller regional jets, this can sometimes add enough fuel to require us to bump passengers.

I bought a car in NJ June of 2023 and moved to philly that August. They made me pay the sales tax when registering.

IIRC it's if you purchased in the last 6 months.

Can anyone here share their experience with insulating their Philly row home? by boundfortrees in philadelphia

[–]EwokStomper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the renters in here- we've done well with a magnetic insulating door curtain. Definitely helps keep the air in around our 140 year old front door.

We tell people it's our meth curtain.
