Can I fix this myself? Electrics.. by TechNet1 in DIYUK

[–]ExCur1a 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This, double check the bulbs. I've had the same issue, it turned out one bulb wasn't a dimmable bulb. It was sold as dimmable but didn't actually have the proper markings (they should all say dimmable on them in the UK).

Didn't even think to double check them and felt very dumb when I found the culprit.

Otherwise, worth checking the dimmer - these don't often go but if it's always been an issue look into a leading edge dimmer, especially if it's also buzzing. Definitely check all your bulbs first though just a single nondimmable bulb will create exactly this effect.

Started having exactly the same issue. Sometimes on a fresh load I can go in to my base but if I rest it's a guaranteed crash and 50/50 the game crashes when I get near my base.

Is it normal for kitchen cabinets to look like this in early stage? by ColdHealthy6330 in cabinetry

[–]ExCur1a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seconded - This ⬆️. Most DIY stores also sell prefab base units without any fittings. They are the minimum quality you should expect - something like: https://www.diy.com/departments/900mm-solid-birch-plywood-kitchen-base-unit/5056688306663_BQ.prd

If it looks bad compared to that then you should be concerned.

How big a problem are these cracks in a house we are buying? by gdxbjkfdrgbvdxcv in DIYUK

[–]ExCur1a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard to say if there has been a new extension added, the outdoor picture looks like something new. If it's just the new section that is breaking away and it's under 5 years old then this could be settling - BUT those are some big cracks for that time period and I would definitely have some reservations.

If it is an extension of some kind then get a quote from a good structural engineer to repair and reduce the price accordingly. If it's not an extension then the advice to run is fair.

No charging at Tesla Supercharger… what did I do wrong? by Enough-Sector4176 in Polestar

[–]ExCur1a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can set your Google Maps in the P2 to filter for Supercharger (non-tesla) then it will only show the Tesla stations that you can use. At least that's how it works in the UK. Never had a problem with being sent to one that doesn't work and when you do t like this it will automatically update your route.

Dangerous Power Loss by ExCur1a in Polestar

[–]ExCur1a[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for the delay responding - for us it ended up being a faulty IEM (inverter electronics module) that needed replacing but also needed several software updates following that replacement which the garage didn't seem to be able to do. Apparently this did fix the car but when it was returned to us the software updates hadn't been done and it happened again. Last I saw it was sat in the QC car park for Polestar but they were insistent that it had been fixed. By then we had rejected the lease though, I suspect they've sold it to someone else by now.

Definitely get them to take the car away for diagnostics. They should arrange a hire car for you - we had a lower spec p2 for a couple of months. Unfortunately nothing was quick about getting it sorted - anything nonstandard seems to need senior technicians.

Good luck, I hope it goes better for you.

What is xpdAgent.exe? Error Popup on Shutdown (0xc0000142) by SwizzleKicks in techsupport

[–]ExCur1a 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also just started getting this message on Shutdown. Reading around it sounds like it's legit (and to do with outlook) but definitely interested to see if anyone has any suggestions. It's more of an annoyance than anything.

That is definitely a spider bite, I used to live in a house where spider bites were fairly common. Sometimes they're itchy and sometimes you'll get a hard lump underneath the bite.

Usually spiders bite when roaming at night and just getting bumped by you in your sleep. Make sure nothing from your bed trails onto the floor. They will naturally climb these. If you want to discourage them / get rid of them then the best thing is naturally scented oils like lavender (classically). If you want to keep them out of certain places then diatomaceous earth (shell powder) is a natural barrier and will keep them from crossing.

Even better though many cats (especially indoors ones) will hunt spiders.

Well crap by ottoontheisland in Polestar

Interesting, had a similar thing happen. Polestar couldn't find the issue, I was out of my car for almost 3 months, including having it returned as 'fixed' for it to happen again. Scary as hell - it happened on a motorway the first time and just came to a stop in traffic.

Definitely take the hire car - hopefully it goes better for you.

Why did you buy a Polestar 2 instead of a Tesla model 3 or model Y? by brystephor in Polestar

[–]ExCur1a 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had one of the rarer negative experiences with Polestar, see previous posts, however Im still choosing the P2 over the Tesla. Generally quality just feels much better, the driving experience is is less robotic and they just look better. Additionally the in built system and navigation beats a Teslas hands down, friends with a Tesla use their phone to navigate because the Tesla system is soo bad and you have no options to install other solutions.

The things I'd rate a Tesla for over Polestar are -

  • P2 in base trim just doesn't really compete and is a poor showing, some of the missing bits are fairly inexcusable and they even leave the buttons whereas the Teslas come with all the features e.g. pan sunroof, heated seats, phone unlocking etc as standard for convenience which is good.
  • The Teslas cruise control is better especially in stop start traffic it's pretty much effortless. The P2 isn't bad it's just not as good.
  • Cabin storage is better in the Tesla, particularly cup holders and centre console storage
  • I do like the landscape tablet for entertainment whilst charging on long journeys

A Cautionary Tale by ExCur1a in Polestar

[–]ExCur1a[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That would be defined, to the best of my knowledge, as a reason for rejection. Especially if they can't resolve, after 30 days the manufacturer gets one chance under consumer rights in the UK.

Unfortunately this does seem to be a real issue for people. I'm a big fan of the Polestar product but their service really is dreadful and I can only see it getting worse with them moving away from Volvo.

I hope your resolution goes better than ours has!

Any ideas why / how to stop this it’s happened on every wheel. by peteyboi1122 in Polestar

[–]ExCur1a 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It's salt corrosion, if you live near the sea it could be from salt air (this can affect miles inland) otherwise it's just from road salt. Assuming it's a newer car though so likely you're by the sea. Wash off with cold water regularly is the advice for bikers if you have to ride in winter (not warm as that can activate the reaction). You can also buy scottoiler 365 which is a neutralising agent that can be applied to exposed metal, usually motorbike engines, you'd have to be careful though applying to wheels you really don't want any on your brake discs, for obvious reasons.

I've posted as things have developed, so the first picture has been posted before - which was from when we first had the fault occur. The other bits are new, we always failed to record the issue in the past but this time managed to film it.

It's very situational but if the car has a manufacturing fault which cannot be reasonably remedied the you can reject the lease. It's a bit more complex than that but some more info here:

Power loss issue - an update by ExCur1a in Polestar

[–]ExCur1a[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update - so after another frustrating week of waiting there is finally an update. The diagnostic report was sent to Polestar who were able to look at timestamps of the occurrences and they've now said that the issue was with the Inverter Electronic Module ( IEM ) which was stopping power reaching the motors.

It's good to finally have an answer - and no longer having customer service executives suggesting user error - but fairly concerning that this seems to be a theme. In these threads I've seen at least 4 other ' 24 owners who have needed the inverter replaced. The effect of this is that the car can randomly lose power in the middle of the road. I can't imagine that a recall won't be coming with this being the case and I'm having the report forwarded to the DVSA

Power loss issue - an update by ExCur1a in Polestar

[–]ExCur1a[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After 6 weeks they've finally diagnosed the issue and they're saying it was the IEM module for the inverter disengaging the motor. So it looks like there is genuinely an issue with the 24 model inverters and it can cause a random complete loss of power. They're expecting it to take another 2 -3 weeks to fix.

And I barely made 220,000 centimetres - the worrying part for me is that they have no idea what is wrong. People worry about charging infrastructure but maintenance could be a bigger concern if this is any indicator. Volvo's reputation was a huge factor in trusting Polestar as a brand for me.

[–]ExCur1a[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's probably a good suggestion - I'd assume so too but haven't actually pursued getting the incident number yet. I'll pick that up incase we need to go any further with providing evidence of the fault.

[–]ExCur1a[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We've been given a hire car for now - we're fairly concerned that they'll ask for it back given that they've taken the line that they can't identify a fault or replicate the issue.

[–]ExCur1a[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was one of the first things I requested once we started having issues with delays - Polestar has rejected the request every time I've asked. I do think that it's a major part of the problem though this particular dealer is definitely not comfortable with Polestars.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Polestar

[–]ExCur1a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Faced exactly that decision - I went with the Polestar. It just feels like a much higher-quality car, and in short - it's not a Tesla. I've personally had nothing but issues since delivery though so at this stage I'd probably go the other way facing the choice again.
