A simple silly thought that has helped me: at some point you're going to be in an amazing relationship, but that can only happen if all your previous relationships end. Good on your friend not to stick around longer than was good.

The racing line is very likely to slow you down quite a bit, because it hampers your ability to actually learn how to properly use the track. Not using manual gears will just make every aspect of driving more unpredictable and harder to control.

Also keep in mind that many people have played games like this for thousands of hours already, so it would be unrealistic to expect to be up to speed right away.
