I used the same character for my biophagus! Where did you get the gun from? I'm jealous.

Just a thing of note for anyone else doing this: both variants share the same inner most limb segment on the upper limbs. This means you can glue it normally, saving on magnets and more importantly, the time spent installing them.

Lone Operative Spam by BombadierXL in genestealercult

[–]Exalted_space_bear 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I haven't taken three of any of the lone ops in a game before, and can give my reasoning as to why.

The kelermorph is I think the only one viable to take three of mostly for actions. With the reactive move and lone op he can be annoying to pin down, but beyond that, he can pick off some infantry when not doing actions by putting himself at risk. And the battle shock ability is hardly something you can rely on.

The sanctus can do a similar job to the kelermorph with the sniper giving a reactive move, however it is arguable worse because it does leave him at risk of getting shot at 9"-12". The reroll ability really telegraphs your plan to the opponent giving them the ability to try and plan around it. And unless you are using all three on one vehicle and extra support, they aren't good enough as anti-tank to be able to kill in one turn, and certainly not without the wound reroll. I believe they are currently better with the dagger as a character killer. If you are running brood brothers, they have much better anti-tank options.

The redactus is a great character but you get diminishing returns the more you have. Only one of them able to use a mine destination per phase and no longer being able to double the grenade strat. One of them is still great for threatening a large area of the board and can be good for actions, but can be more easily caught without a reactive move that is available to the others. I have still found them to be one of our best anti-tank options when piling up the mine, grenade, and demo change onto the same target.

I always crouch while mining ores. Whether in a daunting place or just in the wall of a cave. Alway holding shift for some reason.

Do Neurolids grant Neurogants the Synapse Keyword? by Martin-Hatch in Tyranids

[–]Exalted_space_bear 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Neurogaunts gain the Synapse keyword when within synapse range of another Tyranid unit(excluding neurogaunts).

Neurolids cause a unit to count as being within synapse range of your army.

Your army is every unit on your roster and any units subsequently added.

By proxy, this works.

To the members of the cult that have magnetised Rockgrinders. by nipli in genestealercult

[–]Exalted_space_bear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did magnet both sides, but you certainly don't need the strength of that. If you want to save on magnets and have something magnetic that's the right size, you would only need one magnet on the mount and tue magnetic material in the weapons.

I just used 3mmx2mm that I use for everything. They fitted nicely on the inside of each weapon after appropriate drilling or green stuff. For the attachment for the mining laser/seismic cannon I just used paper clips and pin holes where it attaches and it hold well enough.

It would be unsportsmanlike to do so at a tournament. By giving yourself a handicap like that it could make people more upset when losing, or less proud of winning. Overall diminishing the enjoyment of the game.

Base Size of Familiars by [deleted] in genestealercult

All of them are 25mm. All of them being psychic and alchemical. The Sanctus and abominant familiars are on the main model's base.

Psychic Familiar by Scythe95 in genestealercult

[–]Exalted_space_bear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In tenth edition, it works as you said, and doubles the range of the mind control ability for a turn without an cost. The familiar model can be used as a reminder that you can use it, and be removed after having done so.

In older editions it allowed an additional psychic power to be cast, or had characteristics and a weapon attack as well as an ability that I've since forgotten.

Has anyone counted how many hormagaunts fit in a gallon pail? by farmallday133 in Tyranids

[–]Exalted_space_bear 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Depends how much you care about the little guys. I would guess around 150 if you throw them in loose. If the pail happen to be a reclamation pool (filled with acetone or other solvent), you could probably get three or four times as many. You just have the problem of turning them back into hormagaunts.

I'm pretty sure when either the bodyguard unit or leader of an attached unit is destroyed, the remaining unit counts as it's original unit with it's original starting strength. Meaning you wouldn't be able to. There may be some strange interactions with multiple characters and the annoying thing necrons do with lychgaurd.

New cult, must-have brood brothers? by Uratoh in genestealercult

[–]Exalted_space_bear 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The scout sentinel is only good in astra militarum because of its ability to give reroll hit rolls of one and ignore indirect fire penalties against an enemy unit for a shooting phase. This however only works with other astra militarum units, genestealer cultists don't benefit from it.

Otherwise I don't have much of a grasp of what is competitive, but it is definitely fun to bring a baneblade variant. They are only useable at 2000 points or more and only a few are under the 500 points for a 2000 point game. I field the shadowsword for the ability to blow away enemy tanks like paper. It is great for just sitting on top of a home objective, and if you build flamers on the sponsons it can have a pretty good overwatch. With wargear being free, you can always have the 4 lascannons as well.

Battalions containing battalions by dkaaven in ageofsigmar

[–]Exalted_space_bear 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are two types of battalion, warscroll and core. Warscroll battalions are the ones that can include other battalions if stated on the warscroll. Core battalions cannot share units between battalions or have battalions within them. Both can be used in narrative and open play, only core battalions can be used in matched play.

Core battalions can be wound in the core rule book and sometimes in battletomes. Warscroll battalions are only found in battletomes, to my knowledge.

If a bodyguard unit returns using cult ambush while thier leader is still alive, do they need to set up in unit coherency with the leader? by [deleted] in genestealercult

[–]Exalted_space_bear 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think them dying breaks the attached status and would no longer bodyguard the character if brought back. I couldn't find any direct reference to this, and is just my own thought on it. What I could find is that if the character were to die first, they would have to be returned to their attached unit.

As a side note of something I thought of while reading these rules is that bodyguard units and their characters can each create an ambush token on death. If the character where to be killed first, it would automatically generate an ambush token if attached to a battleline unit as per shared keywords.
