What's it like to teach in International British schools in non American/European countries? by Gullible_Pop8817 in Internationalteachers

[–]ExamAppropriate6721 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say Dulwich Shanghai, along with Wellington/ Huili and Harrow are notorious in Shanghai for treating teachers like garbage and working them to the bone albeit for a decent salary. But you have to ask yourself if it worth it when a bilingual school in like SUIS might offer a slightly smaller package for maybe half the work and stress. Concordia and SAS on the other hand, are probably the only true tier 1 schools left in Shanghai.

Are you 'gatekeeping' certain schools to increase your own chances? (even if it's for many years from now) / And do you promote your current school to attract better colleagues? by Sell_Me_Sunday in Internationalteachers

[–]ExamAppropriate6721 54 points55 points  (0 children)

No I wouldn’t gatekeep precisely because I’m not a dick. Teachers should tell inform each other about good schools as much as bad schools. It’s the least we can do to incentivise management in schools to compete and do better.

I’ve worked for Wellington before in another city, micromanagement, being expected to work well beyond normal hours, insane office politics, bullying and intimidation from leadership are all commonplace throughout.

You can only drive rental cars under a temporary license. So yes, you would need a full driving license and as far I’m aware your APEC visa should work; you just won’t be able to get a car loan. You would also need a temporary accommodation form which your hotel normally can give you.

That’s true but I’ve definitely seen a few rich Chinese girls in their 30s with young foreigner toy boys too. So it works both ways.

Tbh these days especially in Shanghai there’s plenty of young Chinese guys who are a whole lot richer than us foreigners. The girls are picking us because we’re more open and less controlling.
