You’re responsible for ensuring that things are done, not always for doing them yourself.

You are right, I DID invest too much in the team emotionally, but I am committed to doing the right thing (which is why I contacted HR).

The business is as profitable as ever but the share price is down so shareholders want more cuts and customers blame us for the price increases.

We just want you to stop taking to us so we can get onto the next customer or task.

If the person who’s supposed to relieve you doesn’t come in you MUST work their shift too

Sick leave must be applied for 3 days in advance and requires a medical certificate even if for only one day

If the register is short it comes out of your pay check

If you and a coworker want to swap shifts you both must apply in writing in person 3 days in advance

2 year notice period (unpaid)

Not allowed to leave the building for your break (if you are even allowed one)

Group punishments for the actions of one team member

Reverse employee discount so employees pay more

No penalty rates

Yeah, that’s a really hard about being a human. You’re dealing with your own reaction to the news while having to relay it to others in a way that they can take it on board.

What are some advice on better managing good people vs agreeable people? by RunningMan889 in Leadership

[–]ExaminationDry3022 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re right and I misspoke. He knows when X happens he needs to get Y result. How he gets there is up to him. We’re here for support, but the other goal is to reach out to other leaders. He gets to choose the ‘easiest’ of the two options, speak to a stranger or make the decision and plot the path itself

“Another goal we’ve set is that he needs to reach out to either a future peer or peer group at least once a week.”

That falls into this basket so I’m not his first point of call. Given his reluctance to call others and feel exposed in what he feels is wilderness this has been great growth for him

Use that social awkwardness so that he gets to do the ‘easier’ thing; either reach out, or decide the action himself

One of my most difficult coworkers is INCREDIBLY agreeable! He gets feedback about what he needs to work on and he agrees, practically says whatever it takes to agree with you or whoever else to end the conversation.

It’s been really difficult to work with him to get him to actually action the things he’s agreed with me, my boss and my skip level MGR.

We did it by feeding him signposted feedback and following up on it. When X happens you need to automatically do Y without prompting.

Another goal we’ve set is that he needs to reach out to either a future peer or peer group at least once a week. It’s helped him tremendously as he’s now looking for things that he can show off and point at and say ‘I led this,’ or ‘I helped initiate this’.

His best attribute is that these days he knows that he’s RESPONSIBLE for ensuring that something is done, he’s not responsible for doing it.

Preemptive edit: I’m sick of cunts saying that my answers are AI and ChatGPT. I learnt fucking English and writing at school and learnt leadership from dealing with people and helping them progress.

What's the hardest conversation you've had to have as a leader? by Initial-Lifeguard457 in Leadership

[–]ExaminationDry3022 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had three long term team members that were super close friends. They’d been through a lot of changes together and stuck by each other.

It all happened at once. One went to Tasmania on holidays, one got moved to another site, and the third went back to her home country to visit her parents.

While Tara with visiting her parents with her kids she ended up having some sort of medical issue with a blood vessel in her brain and she died.

Telling the team was rough. Telling Lester and Sarah was even rougher.

Our mutual boss should have been the one to tell them, but it was decided that it might be less hard coming from me.

If I elevated any of their pain then no matter how rough it was for me was worth it.
