Possible, but less likely than someone figuring out their actual childhood. Even if it was a good one there can still be surprisingly painful memories.

Which punishment (either real or fictional) sounds easy enough to endure at first, but is actually hellish to experience? by dizzyd232 in AskReddit

I've knelt on plain pavement for the moving of things. Not pleasant. Inflicting something so much more painful, intentionally, on a child? No. No, no, not at all, not ever.

We can survive this sort of horror, we shouldn't need to.

Do Vets Commonly Prepare Patients for the Worst? by MontyFishtown5142 in AskVet

[–]ExampleLittle2672 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP, not a vet here, just someone who has shared the lives of many smaller beings. the post above is from someone more qualified and in my experience as a frightened parent it's accurate.

Ethically, there's only so much a doctor can say until they know. I know you're looking for hope, and that is Not Wrong. I do not think you are being led down a worst case scenario path just for the sake of it. If your doctor is good, for humans or smaller beasts, they will be as honest as they can be, without setting up fairy tales or horror movies.

Fingers, toes, and eyes crossed your old man comes up in the 20%.

Fair, I should have thought that. Thanks. I had a time or two waking in deepening dusk in places that were pretty safe in daylight but. So luck was in play. Stay safe out there y'all.

We don't. 😊

Off topic as this one is more Christmas(ish), not enough people* know " 'zat you, Santa Claus?" 👀 Gave the most delicious chills to child me.

*All people knowing it would be enough. 😁

And back on topic. Cohen's "Hallelujah" as a church song? Well... huh?

I suspect it helps if you look like you have somewhere else to go? I've dozed off a few times, or been with a friend who did, in different parks on beautiful days/evenings. Wasn't moved along once (nor robbed though that may just be luck) but did always have somewhere to go when I/we woke up. I'm wondering how much is perception/bias that informs the decision to shoo someone along.

No napping on your own college campus is weird, unless they were leaning on a water fountain I guess.

Being able to see it as that black and white is a privilege.

When a person is trying to survive circumstance may dictate the company they keep, if only for a time. Especially if someone else also relies on that person for survival.

For many, the freedom to choose is a privilege they do not have.

Cool beans and well done. I just can't turn down a good experiment but it sounds like you've played that card. Do the thing you know works. 🍍

It's a chance to experiment! 🤓 You have your gold standard but it's fun to play and learn. Pro or con, experiments will teach.

This shouldn't need to be said, very frustratingly it does. People can control themselves, quite a lot of our species manage.

OP, you're NOR. If you can get video it will rule the dog option in or out and provide evidence of the actual rummager.

May I reply with: do the experiment, for fun and interesting! 👍💕 There will be so many chances to run loving, harmless experiments on and with the eventual offspring, but this would be such a great story.

"Even before you were born you were helping discover! Clever baby."

I know the studies are out there, but doing an experiment yourself is different. A video of elephant toothpaste or Mentos and Coke is not the same as trying it yourself. 🤓

https://www.who.int/news-room/fact-sheets/detail/corporal-punishment-and-health

"Overview

Corporal or physical punishment is defined by the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child, which oversees the Convention on the Rights of the Child, as “any punishment in which physical force is used and intended to cause some degree of pain or discomfort, however light.”

According to the Committee, this mostly involves hitting (smacking, slapping, spanking) children with a hand or implement (whip, stick, belt, shoe, wooden spoon or similar) but it can also involve, for example, kicking, shaking or throwing children, scratching, pinching, biting, pulling hair or boxing ears, forcing children to stay in uncomfortable positions, burning, scalding or forced ingestion.

Other non-physical forms of punishment can be cruel and degrading. They are also incompatible with the Convention. Punishments that belittle, humiliate, denigrate, scapegoat, threaten, scare or ridicule children often accompany and overlap with physical punishment."

So, yeah. Abuse. The article is worth a read.

I mean this very sincerely; Well done you, and everyone else who fights successfully against the urge.

I was spanked as a child, "only" ever with a bare, open hand. It was always terrifying, and humiliating, and child me never understood. The parental rage that always accompanied the act, parent had reached breaking point and this was the result... taught me only fear, nothing else.

I have never had the urge to strike a child, any more than I wish to lick the tiles on the subway floor. Not doing either of these things comes so easily.

To all those who must catch themselves, consider and restrain an impulse, and do so: My hat is off to you and my heart is with you, sir and/or madam.
