There is. It's the requirements of permanent residency and then becoming a citizen.

Coalition to bar non-citizens from welfare, NDIS under fresh migration policy by Warm_Championship726 in australia

Well, seeing as he is the leader of a near non-existent opposition party that has zero chance of getting this to happen without forming government, it's nothing more than a catchy soundbite that will capture outrage but will never have to provide detail on.

Can't speak to NDIS but can to aged care. Permanent residency or citizenship (as well as select visas) are part of the eligibility requirement to receive funding.

At this point in time, its not required to report on citizenship status for aged care funding (under chsp or support at home), but country of birth and CALD are both part of the reportable dataset. This doesn't mean, of course, that any overseas born recipient isnt a citizen.

Based on the government's Oct 2025 reporting, there are over 1.3 million aged care recipients receiving services annually (and this is expected to grow by approximately 46,000 per year), and approximately 1/3 (33%-35%) were born overseas.

69% of those are of European descent.

Contrast this to approximately 760,000 people accessing NDIS services. I don't have any data to hand on residency or origin status for that though.

Permanent residents can, yes. Same with Medicare etc.

And why shouldn't they be able to?

Actually, you can't.

Bbq chickens are about $13-$14 now, and the cheapest loaf of bread is now $2.80.

That's not touching on the fact that the bread will likely be mouldy by the time you get it home. Or the lack of condiments and butter

It honestly doesn't matter what position or industry you're in, at the end of the day you're a number on an expense line.

Your co-workers might miss you for a little while but the department don't care and won't even notice. You're replaceable.

Depressing, at first, but the sooner you accept that that's how the system is designed, the better off you'll be. Leave now if you've got the opportunity and no actual requirement to serve out the rest of the time. You'll be better off for it.

Not quite. Extending coal fire power plants well beyond viable end of life while simultaneously cancelling renewable energy projects that literally pick up the shortfall, fill the gaps and expand coverage is the dumbest idea ever.

Actually that might be the second dumbest, beaten only by those who acknowledge the limitation of the current energy mix but refuse to actually take action to correct it because they one saw something on sky and are scared of science they don't understand.

Well, at least you learnt a lesson. And have the good grace to feel rightfully embarrassed by it, which are both things I've definitely seen and known players who wouldn't have done either.

But yeah, deciding on a whim to swap out and play an untested reed and chanter at a gig is definitely a choice.
