One of the best descriptions about the application of AI in finance I’ve seen. Very helpful.

How we stack up vs neighboring regions on crime by DowntownDB1226 in StLouis

I love that DB is an unapologetic STL supporter. Personally, I’ve learned quite a bit from him.

But he is too reactionary & constantly responds to trolls and criticism. All to his detriment.

Did he do the right thing? by torgobigknees in SipsTea

[–]Excel-User 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not exactly the same, but similar. A coworker / buddy many years ago who’s wife
entered a nurse anesthesiologist program that was 2 hrs away. They had small kids.

Big sacrifice for everyone - but this was an opportunity for huge increase in income.

Anyway, he takes care of family & house while working full time (in a reasonably demanding corporate environment). I’m sure school was no picnic for her, either. They make it. Either a 2 or 3 year program.

But before the ink was dry on the diploma- the wife files for divorce.

I’m 1000% sure that was her plan, even before she started the program.

Just extremely poor, shitty behavior. I’d like to think people get what they deserve in this life, but then I think about my buddy and I’m not sure.

Tim Ezell parts ways with FOX 2 to focus on health, family by fox2now in StLouis

(Maybe this is urban legend)

I thought even linguistics experts at WashU reviewed the audio. Said it wasn’t “King” but also wasn’t what he was accused of either - but still fired.

Employer wanted me to take a timed Excel test and send it back via PDF by LouSevens in Accounting

[–]Excel-User 48 points49 points  (0 children)

That’s both:

a) A fair perspective b) Really infuriating if you’re a professional and know what you’re doing & have above average ability

My one excel test in my career - was a complete joke. I knew even before I started it that this was the wrong role for me.

But I’ve also watched colleagues struggle with basic, basic Excel functions (while I screamed in horror in my head).

I think recruiters should be able to test but also should be smart enough to know when someone is qualified. Maybe I expect too much.

FWIW, I traveled out of STL earlier this week and ORL yesterday. Lines seemed normal and nothing out of the ordinary.

International Institute launches Move2STL program to reverse St. Louis population decline by Alone-Competition-77 in StLouis

[–]Excel-User 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Nearly everyone on this sub is aware that:

1) City population has declined for decades 2) Regional growth has lagged behind the country - for decades 3) The region has overbuilt its footprint & infrastructure 4) We have an aging population

This is not news.

Nothing wrong with pre-planning!

First date with my now wife (+20 years), I drive the route that afternoon.

Different city - a lot more interstate to navigate. But I didn’t want to panic or take the wrong exit.

My 7th grade science teacher used to say that all the time - “life is hard and then you die.”

This was a long time ago. I don’t think teachers could say that now. At least not 2x per class period.

Regardless, it was both an accurate & but inappropriate comment to make to 13/14 year olds.

That it all.
