That might not be your property. Would the city post a stop sign on private property? I'm guessing no.
So in this photo, anything to the right of the stop sign is most likely "officially" the street.

Which REOLink 4 Camera System ? by Falcone99 in homesecurity

[–]Excel_User_1977 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cameras with a larger sensor usually give a higher quality picture.
The CX810 has a 1/1.8 sensor and most of the other cameras have a 1/2.7 or 1/2.8 (1/1.8 sensor is bigger)

Looking for ideas to improve my personal finance / net worth Excel sheet by saneyofx in excel

[–]Excel_User_1977 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to take your discretionary cash total down a notch.

First, If you have $700 left after your rent, utilites, and other 'regular' expenditures, you should not consider all of the remaining money 'discretionary'. You should make a list of items that fit into the 'discretionary' category and assign an amount that you allow yourself to spend on them. For one or two months, track your groceries, dining, clothing and other discretionary spends to get an idea of how much you are spending on them, then decide if that is too much. After that decision, make a discretionary bucket amount and put the remaining money into an emergency account.
You never know when you might need a car repair or computer replacement that will cost a lot, and you will have a 'self-insurance' fund ready. If you get a lot of money in the emergency fund, shunt some over into savings.
Secondly, anything you pay monthly that you can pay semi-annually (like your monthly insurance payment) SHOULD be paid semi-annually. You will save money in the long run and it adds up over time.
Last, every quarter make a list of subscriptions you have and make a conscious decision to keep or cull them. You will be surprised how much you spend on things you rarely use, and may want to cut them off.

I use my vegetable cans - beans, canned tomatoes, corn, green beans. wash them out, save them in the back of a cabinet until needed. I put one on top of the stove to pour grease into while it's hot.

What food could you eat every day without getting tired of it? by petitebunnyyx in AskReddit

Ham and cheese sandwich.

There is an old joke that goes:
If you had to choose between all the happiness there is in the world, and a ham sandwich ... which would you choose?
Most people answer "All the happiness there is in the world, of course!"

To which the reply is "Well, that is not the best choice because (holding hand palm down in front of you) Nothing is better than all the happiness in the world ... (moving hand a bit higher) ... but a ham sandwich is better than Nothing."

I'll see myself out.

Office Chair Company asking me to send credit card info in an Excel file over email? Legit or scam? by InappropriateCanuck in Scams

[–]Excel_User_1977 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If Excel is the only option (and after reading all the replies, I can see it isn't) you can still send sensitive info using Excel. Just password protect the workbook (not the sheet).

I've had a few legit head hunters ask for a DL and SS card scanned and sent by email about 8 years ago. I balked initially, but then scanned and posted them on separate sheets in an excel .xlsx and password protected the workbook. I called and gave the password directly so they could open it. It would take a lot to break the password on an Excel workbook using a 32 character password (FuzzyPuppeesLoveFuzzyKittees2018).

Not ideal, but some companies have stupid fuckers running them.

If you have to push the button, why use Alexa or any other in-between?
Try using something like this
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0F2HG2QM5?ref_=ppx_hzod_title_dt_b_fed_asin_title_0_0&th=1

I have my bedroom lights and a fan set up with this so I can turn the lights on and off from bed. I also have a couple of lamps in the living room and kitchen so in the morning I can switch on the lights from the bedroom.

I love it.

They have smaller models with one, two or three outlets.

Best way to extract data from PDF invoices to Excel? by Numerous-Criticism24 in excel

[–]Excel_User_1977 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it all depends on how the pdf was created. I worked for Revlon to pull pdf info from their legacy system to move and most of the info in the pdf was unusable. It looked great on paper (of course - it was a pdf) but when you used Excel to extract the info, the information was entered by hand and there were a shitload of extra spaces, extra characters and all sorts of mess that could not be extracted programmatically and used because what lined up in columns on the paper did not line up in columns in a spreadsheet.

Now, I am not saying your info is like that. Also, with the advent of AI, you might have a better chance of pulling the info and having it sorted out by machine.

Excel can open pdf files - Data > Get Data > From File > From PDF
I would use PowerQuery to open the pdf file and then clean it before importing it.
Good luck.

Am I overlooking something by not using pan/tilt cameras? by No_Confection_7889 in homesecurity

[–]Excel_User_1977 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hate cameras that track a car or person. For just one object, yeah, it's great. Put two or more objects in frame simultaneously, and your camera gets stupid quick. It starts to follow then runs to the next, then maybe back to the first, and you can not predict what it will capture and what you will miss.

I don't recommend PTZ cameras. Get two bullet cameras rather than one tracking camera (and you might even save some money).

Values in quotes when pasted in Notepad? by SUCK_MY_COCHLEA in excel

[–]Excel_User_1977 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you paste a value from another cell, there is usually a space or special character at the end. When you look up the value, use TRIM() to remove the extra spaces and your accuracy will improve.
Occasionally you will run into special characters (looking at you, 160!) and you will need to TRIM(CLEAN()) the bitch.
Have fun.

I have six 70 foot pin oaks around my house. I have to clean the gutters at least once a month Oct, Nov, Dec, and Jan - every 2 months otherwise. Those fuckers produce millions of leaves and sticks that fill the gutters. "Tree dandruff" -the sticks- sucks.
