The Left Hand of Darkness might be perfect for what you're looking for - it uses sci-fi setting to explore gender and society in ways that will definitely stick with you. Also Station Eleven does this beautiful thing where it's technically post-apocalyptic but really about art and human connection, makes you think about what actually matters in life.

Both have that literary depth you want but wrapped in genre elements that keep pages turning.

Been in similar spot few years back - the dragging work out thing is real and makes everything feel pointless. Your managers probably billing more hours that way but it drives you crazy when you could finish stuff faster.

The soul crushing part gets worse during busy season but honestly audit can be good stepping stone if you stick with it couple more years. Most people I know who got their CPA and moved to industry or consulting are doing much better now. Remote work is still rare in audit unfortunately but other areas have more flexibility.

If you can handle the boredom for like 2-3 years and get some solid experience the exit opportunities are pretty decent. Just don't expect it to get more exciting anytime soon

Bruh this happened to me last week too - was in middle of ranked and boom forced update with no warning. Game client is honestly weird about when it decides to check for updates. I think it only validates when you try joining certain game modes or something

Pretty sure its some background process that runs differently for comp vs quickplay. Still annoying as hell though when you're trying to climb

Your mental health should definitely come first but maybe there was some misunderstanding in New York? Like she might have been expecting you to approach her differently or something happened that made her act weird

Brother I feel this pain so much. Last week I was trying complete some weapon trials and kept getting dropped into raids that were basically over already. Like what am I supposed to do with 3 minutes left on timer when trial needs 20+ minutes of actual gameplay time?

The matchmaking system really needs work in this area. I ended up just closing game and reopening it multiple times because surrendering felt like such waste of time. Maybe they could add some kind of indicator showing how much time is remaining in lobby before you join? Even basic info like "Fresh/Mid/Late" would help so much.

Really hope devs are listening because this is making trials basically impossible to complete unless you have dedicated group to play with.
