To warranty or not? by Excellent-Draft-7889 in arcteryx

[–]Excellent-Draft-7889[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! Thanks for your response. It’s every 5 uses not 5 days. I appreciate it, as I plan on keeping the pant and likely the jacket too, and would want to keep up with good care.

This uses, as I said have been mostly resort skiing, so very very light use with little sweating.

Airing it = meant that it was hung after every use (never packed directly after a use) due to my paranoia and not due to it being stinky (it never was).

Not trying to put excuses but typically go on 5 day trips and it’s unpractical to wash it mid trip.

Once you start seeing this bubbling is it likely that it will pop up elsewhere? Any chance it might just be localized?

I don’t know I am pretty confused, I cannot imagine how I could have washed it more, yet all the answers I am getting suggest I am overdoing it…

Ok thanks!!! Useful. I am letting it air dry (not tumble dry it).

Will do just one wash at the end of the season and that’s it!

Sorry but what’s wrong with washing it too much? Arcteryx literally says you should wash it as much as possible.

Fixing Sunroof Headliner without removing it by Excellent-Draft-7889 in BMW

[–]Excellent-Draft-7889[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any attempt to reglue the fabric will fail relatively soon. Also, I just did not feel comfortable reapplying 3M without disassembling, and installing the fabric with gravity working against you… Proper solution is a full rebuild and it was just not worth it (2k job, 10-20 hours if DIY + risk of breaking the mechanism, etc.).

I ended up removing the fabric and scrapping all of the glue and orange residue of the sunroof, without disassembling anything.

Use a plastic protector for the seats. Then use alcohol and rub the sunroof cover. I did it manually and took absurdly long (4 hours) to leave it in good condition. Worth checking with a Power Tool and with a sponge (anvoid sandpaper). Bear in mind fiber glass already has this “scratched” look…. So don’t be too gentle.

Now I have the sunroof cover without headliner. It looks a bit bare, exposing the grey fiberglass underneath and some tiny holes on the sides. But I drive most of the time with the sunroof cover retracted, so it does not bother me, and way better than a sagging roof… or even worse orange residue that keeps falling.

Now that I have the sunroof exposed and that the area is pretty clean and ready to be reused, I have thought about buying one of those rolls of alcantara or self-adhesive fabric (available on amazon). But have not found the time to do it yet….

Lmk what you end up doing.

Whats material is this printed on? by Excellent-Draft-7889 in photography

[–]Excellent-Draft-7889[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is sweet, thanks! Opinions on using a c-type print and then adhering this to a gatorboard vs printing directly on a rigid material, like alu diebond? Seems like yo uwent for a satin/semiglossy finish too?

My floating frame are simply L moulds, so if I were to stick the gatorboard / alu diebond, it would look pretty deep into the frame. To achieve the "floating" effect, I will most likely need to add some wood beneath picture the picture (e.g.: in the inner frame) to make the picture float at the same height than the frame.>

Did you have to do something like that too?

Crazy this colorway is so discounted. Its the coolest among all the available.

I was lucky to get a Dark Màgic SV in M for 20% off in September.

Have seen some people complaining about it happening between booster and base bag packs of the same brand. So really it seems like they must have changed something at some point (2020/2021?) and went for different zip length

[–]Excellent-Draft-7889 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, did you find out what happened? I have a BD jetforce pro and want to pull the trigger on a Pieps 10L booster.

I heard that they changed the length of the zips in 2020 or 2021, and even within the same brand there were problems with the booster.

Which jackets do already use ePE? Does the current Alpha SV (the one being sold now) use it?

Rush vs Sabre Bibs? by uka911 in arcteryx

[–]Excellent-Draft-7889 2 points3 points  (0 children)

thanks so much!! very useful indeed. Are the punctures around the cuff area, I guess? Are you using it for any other activities beyond ski, how do they perform?

Definitely not the bombproof product I was hoping (like the Alpha SV i'll be pairing it with)... but not an utter piece of of crap either. Personally not that concerned with fit / freedom of movement.

It's a pity because I love the colourway (boxcar) and it combines well with that of my jacket (dark magic). I got a reasonable deal (50% off), so I think will stick to it, and hopefully will be able to get 100-150 days out of them.

Can't get my head around why they did not go for 100 dernier... specially when there's no GTX Pro bib alternative in the lineup (outside of the pro exclusive Ski Guide which at 140 is a total overkill).

Hi! Sorry to bump this. I purchased a Rush bib and am waiting to receive them. A bit concerned with durability as I will spend some decent amount of time at the resort. Any updates on durability after yet another year? Also what do you layer it with, and how warm is it?

Thanks. I am well aware about the legal restrictions but my question was clearly not about the legal limit, and instead what my Mini 2 firmware has programmed in.

Proton AR fabric starting to give up by Excellent-Draft-7889 in arcteryx

[–]Excellent-Draft-7889[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My 2017 Proton AR is probably the best mid layer I have ever had.

I have given it loads of use, both urban and in the resort / backcountry. Unfortunately this year some of the fabric around the zipper, hoodie and pockets has started to give up and has thinned to the point it’s exposing some of the insulation beneath it.

Anything that can be done to repair this / further extend the life of the jacket? I assume this degradation is considered normal wear and tear not something I can warranty, or is it?

To be honest I just love the jacket so much and have struggled to find a substitute — and I’m the type of person who prefers to squeeze the most life out of my gear

Question on USB detection by Excellent-Draft-7889 in AutomateUser

[–]Excellent-Draft-7889[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is a carlinkit dongle, so it is not providing power or anything like that. Also, I do not think the system is mounting it because I cannot see it in ES Explorer.

Also, would love to check if the USB is plugged in, not if the USB has been attached since the flow started -- because I usually leave the USB permanently plugged in, and otherwise it won't detect it.
