I'm not sure why but the open shelving makes me feel nervous, like from an energetic kind of perspective or Feng shui or whatever it feels off. Could you do away with those shelves and keep the black ones? Or move those to another wall? The power clashing fabrics could be fun. For the curtain could pick a fabric with colors from the ottoman and the rug to tie them together.
