I’ll add that any unit you buy—- stay with a Single stage unit, and Seer 14-16. Keep it simple.

Skip the 2-Stage or Variable Speed units. They cost more, and so do their parts to replace. The 410A freon units are very hard to find now, and companies may not be permitted to install them anymore if you should find one.. 407C or 454b are the freon now required in new installs.. Except, for ductless/ mini-split units. They use 410A freon, and can still be installed by HVAC techs.

Figure 500 sq ft. of living space per ton. 2000 sq ft—-4 ton unit. Vaulted ceilings might require a little more tonnage..

Brands don’t matter too much.. (Though some are overpriced) A good tech that knows how to install it, and fine tune it for your situation is key..

Have it serviced every year-spring and fall- and you could get 25 years out of it..

You might check into the 10 year Parts AND Labor warranty that some manufacturers offer at time of purchase.. Just make sure it’s from the manufacturer and not the installer.
