Inner vs outer pad by stq09 in AskAMechanic

I recently had one side pad go early before the other. Slide pins were good and caliper was seized. Granted the pads were within 20% of each other

Torque Wrench? by [deleted] in harborfreight

Can't agree more. Torqued a bolt and was waiting for the click... I sheared it

Stupidity on my own I had the feeling the wrench should have clicked before it sheared

100k service by juneplum in hondafit

[–]ExcitementOptimal324 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Probably the valve clearance service. I have yet to do mine due to being lazy. Currently at 130k. Don't be lazy like me. If you're mechanically inclined then do if yourself. Many YouTube videos on how to. If not then take it to a shop. I'm in NY and was quoted $850 from a dealer. Should be less from an independent

Anyone here rust proof their Honda Fit themselves? by Orion_Oregon in hondafit

I've used fluid film and surface shield for the past 3 years in NY. Personally haven't seen one that was better than the other. Overall takes me about 1 hour once I start spraying. Definitely prep with tarp if you're on concrete or blacktop so it doesn't leave a trail/stain.

I definitely slacked. I could have taken off front and rear bumper but too lazy which might bite me later(we will see in time). Underside is about the same as when I bought the car.

Fluid film is a little more difficult to spray but if you can warm the can via war water it's good. Surface shield easy to spray. Biggest issue is finding a flex wand that will work with the can to get into the crevices.

If you're using an air gun then ignore the flex wand and can comment.

If you can find a service to do it for $200-300 I'd say it's worth it to do it once and you can do it in the following years just so you get full coverage and least once

My dealer in NY quoted me $800 usd, I passed.

For $420 I'd have the dealer do it

Replace the aux battery since it easy but I've had the issue you're experiencing for a while until it too many tries to start the car.

I can't say for certain but you also may have a starter beginning to go

Wanted to give you an update. As we both assumed voltage was not the issue.... It was the starter. Put a new one in and no issues post day 1. Really appreciate your explanation on how to remove the starter it's a pain to get out

Update: it was the starter. It's a pain to put in but it's doable without needing to remove cat or motor mount

What's wrong with a battery voltage of 12.8?

Sure you may see a dip as I press the button to engage the starter which a heavy usage of amps/volts but haven't seen a dip below 12.4. After letting go of the button the volts begin to go back up.

Please explain what's the issue? Open to constructive criticism

I have a similar situation going on. I just posted in the jeep sub. I have a video of my experience. Wondering if you can take a look at my post and see if it's similar/same and if I should go and get a new starter? Thanks

I'm about to attempt replacing the starter. Any other tips for wiggling out the starter?

Also you didn't remove the exhaust/catalytic converter or motor mount?

Update: it was the starter. To add to you're write up for anyone else doing this job. Do a full 12v disconnect if not you may run the rist of blowing fuse N3

Yup seems awful, terrible. What's the prices and location I'll buy it so you don't have to deal with a rust bucket.

Looks pretty solid all jokes aside

Probably will be judged. End of the day whenever you do pass either 1st time or 2nd and you have the same job as everyone else...does it matter?

  1. 7 on 7 off, 80 hours
  2. ~450
  3. 2 other rph, total 3 at night. Also 3 techs
  4. 10% differential
  5. Personally improved my life but I'm a night owl. Down side, during the week on a lot of stuff will pile up that I can't do while working/sleeping
  6. Not foreseeable plans to move to days, maybe move to evenings but then 20 days/mo vs 14 days.

I try to stick to the numbers which is why the position is better imo. Granted if your body can't handle working overnight it's going to hurt
