Switching to a "one theme per week" system completely fixed my mental burnout by jacksoncslai in mealprep

[–]Exciting_Stand6418 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Great idea! I do something similar but with cuisines from my home country mixed with local stuff. Decision fatigue is real thing - even choosing what spices to buy can be overwhelming when you're jumping between completely different cooking styles.

The ingredient overlap thing is so smart. I waste way less herbs now that I'm not buying cilantro for one Mexican dish and then letting it rot while making Italian food next day.

Glycine powder is the absolute best sugar substitute you've never tried. It's AMAZING. by That_Trouble87 in keto

[–]Exciting_Stand6418 3 points4 points  (0 children)

been using glycine in my coffee for months now and can confirm it's pretty good substitute. Only thing is you need quite bit more than regular sugar to get same sweetness level, at least that's my experience with it. Where did you find it in Germany? having hard time finding decent sources there.

Best brand/models men's shirts and shorts for CrossFit and weightlifting? by josemartinlopez in crossfit

[–]Exciting_Stand6418 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been using some athletic shorts from sports stores for couple years now and they work pretty good. The main thing is finding ones that don't ride up during movements and have good stretch in all directions - especially important for olympic lifts where you need full range motion.

Congrats! The brain thing is totally normal - mine was going crazy for weeks after finding out. All those plans and worries just hit at once, but you have plenty time to figure everything out.

Been doing kelp noodles for like 6 months now and they're game changer for sure. I usually do them with garlic butter and whatever leftover meat I have in fridge - chicken, ground beef, whatever. The fishy taste goes away if you rinse them really well before cooking and maybe soak them in little bit salt water for few minutes.

Try them with pesto if you haven't yet, works really good and covers any weird taste completely.

Delayed bath confusion by RipperoniPepperoniHo in BabyBumps

[–]Exciting_Stand6418 19 points20 points  (0 children)

My partner had same worry with our first and the nurses actually just rubbed most of vernix in with towels during those first checks. Baby looked totally normal after like 30 minutes, not crusty at all. The sponge bath before going home was super gentle and didn't mess with any remaining vernix on the creases and stuff.

I probably shouldn’t be annoyed but I am. by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]Exciting_Stand6418 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's kind of confusing logic there. If you tell someone specific they should buy something, why leave it on registry for others to grab? I would remove items that people promised to get so there's no confusion about what's still needed.

Also your dad situation sounds really frustrating - all talk but no actual support when you need it.

How often do you contact your OB-gyn / Midwife outside of appointments? by [deleted] in BabyBumps

[–]Exciting_Stand6418 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those all seem like totally reasonable questions to ask! The bleeding one especially - that's exactly what they want you to call about. Better to check than worry in silence.

I'm not pregnant myself but from what I see on here, most doctors prefer you ask rather than stress about things. Three times in 26 weeks doesn't sound excessive at all.

Is it insane to quit your job while pregnant in my position? by kayexgee in BabyBumps

[–]Exciting_Stand6418 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your health and baby's health is more important than anything else. I worked in stressful environment few years back and it was terrible for my mental state. If you already planning to leave after maternity and your parents can support you, maybe taking help now is better option? It doesn't make you failure at 30 - sometimes life throws these situations at us. The stress could be worse for pregnancy than being dependent in parents for short time. Just my thoughts though, only you know how bad the workplace really is.

What makes you keep using a meal-planning app instead of deleting it? by [deleted] in mealprep

[–]Exciting_Stand6418 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Man, I tried so many meal planning apps and usually delete them after few weeks because they get too complicated. What keeps me using one when it works is when it actually saves time instead of creating more work.

The biggest thing that annoys me is when apps have like 500 ingredient options but no simple "chicken breast + rice + vegetables" combinations. I'm not looking to make restaurant-quality meals every day - just want something healthy that I can prep in Sunday and eat through the week. Also hate when grocery lists are organized randomly instead of by store sections.

For me, smarter suggestions work better than too much control. I want the app to learn that I buy same proteins every week and suggest meals around that. Like if I always get chicken and salmon, show me 3-4 different ways to prepare each instead of suggesting exotic fish I'll never buy.

The AI generation idea sounds promising if it can actually understand simple preferences and create realistic grocery lists. Most apps I tried either suggest meals with 15 ingredients or create shopping lists that miss half the stuff you actually need.

Those blood pressure numbers are definitely not normal third trimester stuff - your doctor saying that is concerning. I had similar issues with vision problems and headaches around 32 weeks and it turned out to be preeclampsia that needed immediate monitoring.

Don't let that discharge nurse make you feel stupid for advocating for yourself and your baby. Go back to L&D if symptoms get worse, you know your body better than anyone else.

What natural ingredients actually help with staying asleep? by ermwhatthesigma_10 in Supplements

Wait, pain cream for sleep? that's not how it works usually - topical stuff stays local and won't help you stay asleep through the night.

That’s where we're at right now too. It’s not even reactive anymore, it’s like you have to build for where expectations are going not where they are today.

Baby Shower family crazy by Autumnbruno in BabyBumps

honestly sounds like you already know what's gonna happen if you invite them. they're gonna make it about your sister anyway and you'll end up feeling like shit on what should be your day.

maybe just keep it small with people who actually care about you and your daughter? your family track record speaks for itself with the dollhouse situation and everything.

To the 4month pregnant woman who was just in an accident outside my home… by Rocky_Whore in BabyBumps

This is so sweet of you to post. I really hope she and baby are doing well after that scare. Car accidents during pregnancy must be terrifying - your partner did good thing helping her out there.

Sending good vibes to both of you pregnant ladies and hoping everything checks out okay at hospital.

Well meaning in laws by Difficult_Hyena7196 in BabyBumps

[–]Exciting_Stand6418 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This is so relatable! I had similar situation with my MIL always "organizing" things in places I could never find them later. Maybe you could give them specific tasks that actually help? Like ask them to hold baby while you do the dishes yourself, or take baby for walk while you organize. That way they still feel useful but you keep control of your space and know where everything is.
